Hilarys Deli

This is an excellent combination of deli shop and cafe. It serves excellent coffee plus a range of other drinks such as hot chocolate in cosy, clean, welcoming surroundings. Baking is home made and the cakes look extremely good. Various casual food items can be purchased on a take out basis and they all look delicious. The shop has some good quality deli produce along the lines you would anticipate including oatcakes, chutneys, cheeses, condiments etc etc. This shop is definitely worth calling in if you are passing through Haddington.

Roast beef dinner yuck , cold roast beef with horrible gravy poured over the top . Chips were under cooked , most disappointing meal I have ever had here . We use this place a lot but mostly at lunch time . Won’t be back for a dinner at night , it’s a good job the sweets were up to scratch as we were talking about going to get fish chips as we were still hungry

I recently celebrated my birthday with family at the Waterside. The atmosphere in the bar always seems good even on a Wednesday evening. James was welcoming and attentive as always and really is a great host. Using the courtesy bus meant we could all have a drink for once.Everyone found something to suit them on the menu even the vegans! Thanks for a great night guys.

We ordered mixed sandwiches for 20 people for a pre-wedding lunch and were not disappointed. There was plenty of choice and the bread was really tasty. We supplemented the order with some large homemade sausage rolls which soon disappeared. A great choice, we’d return if we could.Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed the sandwiches and I hope you all had a wonderful time at the wedding.Kind regardsAnita

Chosen because two (particularly one) of the men were very plain eaters. Firstly we did get a bit lost on entry and ended up heading to the bedrooms. Our service was shared by a young man and a mature lady who were excellent. The 3 starters seemed to go well particularly the one who had the soup. I don't have a great appetite and was looking forward to the roast beef dinner so had just a roll and butter, too hot to handle and over microwaved! My beef was overcooked, so that and half of another's steak pie was kindly "doggie bagged" and it was well appreciated by dog lover companion's pooches. The "plain eater" had fish and chips and although he didn't say anything, he only ate about half of the serving. Apart from a lot of noise from a particularly busy bar we enjoyed our visit and were reminded of our visits to our local pubs in our younger days. Be prepared to run the "fag reek" gauntlet on entry and exit.

A short menu, looks simple at first but had variety. So I had spicy Spanish style sausage in a pineapple glaze, it works. A hefty portion of haggis, neeps and tatties for mains, lovely. And a proper rice pudding for desert, almost as good as my Nana’s. Service was great. A quiet midweek, very rainy night but lovely atmosphere.
