Having read the reviews were really looking forward to our evening meal. We arrived at 8.00pm and ordered quite quickly, two dishes from the daily specials. An hour and fifteen minutes later our food arrived, my breaded chicken fillet salad was such a disappointment, the chicken fillet resembled a cheap chicken burger cut into very thin strips arranged around a soup bowl with my salad in the middle. My husband’s suet pudding was extremely dry with no offer of any gravy. The vegetables were a boring combo of peas and carrots. The owners did apologise for the delay and offered us a free drink. The excuse being a lot of orders were placed at once. May I make a suggestion if this is the case, when punters arrive to eat, let them know there is a minimum wait of however long, giving them the opportunity to decide whether to wait or go elsewhere. Will not be returning.Sorry for the tardy response, we were unable to log onto the account. Unfortunately on the night in question we had an agency chef in the kitchen and unfortunately things did not proceed smoothly as they would normally. We completely understand your frustration and feel very sad that it spoilt you evening. We would urge you to visit the pub again and we will treat you to food and service of the normal high standard apparent from the majority of our reviews. Kind regards.Caroline and Jan

So not having visited for a while due to moving away, we decided to book a table after finding ourselves back in the local area for a family occasion. Booked online, noted beer festival in progress and may affect menu, so advised to check.Arrived ahead of booking time, checked menu not affected, assured it wasn’t and being written at that very moment. Ordered drinks, sat at reserved table, all good. Note here that we booked table for 6pm as we wanted to eat early. Checked if menu was ready to be advised ‘not yet.’ No problem! Other couples arrived and sensed vibes that a menu was neither forthcoming or offered. People on other table ordered cheesy chips, order accepted and food arrived. Went to check at bar if menu ready yet; no apparently. When enquiring how long it may be, the curt answer was ‘no idea.’ At no point was any information forthcoming regarding if there was a menu or not, only specials available or just cheesy chips available to those in the know. There are four pubs in a straight line within a mile of this pub. We voted with our feet and chose one of those. Customer service there second to none.Interestingly we received an email advising us our booking had been cancelled: we know, we left.

Read good reviews about this place so decided to give it a go, and we weren't disappointed. We cycled there so arrived at the possibly rather odd time of 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon. The lady was having a sit down in the sunshine and greeted us with a big smile and hello, and couldn't have been more helpful. I had the veggie option 'The Nuts' - beetroot burger, halloumi etc - very nice indeed. Hubby had a standard burger I think, and said it was lovely. Nice glass of wine, soaked up some sunshine, very unhurried and enjoyable. I would say the only downside is that it's on the main road, with quite a bit of passing traffic, but it's set back a little so you can ignore it mostly. Would go back again with the kids to try the milkshakes or breakfasts.

What a friendly welcome from our hosts. It was a Wednesday lunch time and some of the main meals were only £7.We had a range of food and produced empty plates at the end.The same happend with the desserts.I would describe the food as great pub grub all at a reasonable price. We were well looked after and and were offered to move to the lounge area after our meal. We will certainly be returning to the Angel.

Wedding anniversary lunch, prebooked. Dropped my wife outside as pouring with rain, went and parked. 10 minutes later she had not been greeted – staff were chatting with each other – had assumed my wife was part of a large party. No table decoration at all. Glass of champagne each – horrid taste and aftertaste [not charged]. White wine with the meal – inadequately chilled. Belly of pork – soggy ‘crust’, sent back, minuscule portion. My wife’s duck was properly cooked, however. We have been coming to this restaurant since it was initially Langan’s, then Baumann’s, alwas good [except once when garlic bread was burnt – replaced]. Very disappointing after so many years’ acquaintance.

Had lunch here on a Friday. The staff were welcoming, we were shown to our table and drinks ordered. The restaurant area is adjacent to the bar, only separated by an open frame divider, so little difference between eating in the bar or the restaurant, and both use the same menu, but it was fairly quiet so made no difference to us. There was a lunch menu and a specials, with a decent choice between them We had nachos to share as starters, very fresh tasting and a good sized portion. For mains my ribs were nice, as were the sides. we also had the hunters chicken, although the tomato sauce it was in wasn't to our liking, maybe a personal taste thing. All in all, a good pub restaurant at reasonable prices.

Our 1st visit to this venue. Didn't know it was there.Friends had attended a wedding previously, and suggested a group of us attend this Sunday Brunch Blues event. How lucky we were! The atmosphere was great, like-minded people enjoying the great American-themed BBQ; great service; great music from Robbie Gladwell and the band. The hosts were charming, working hard to ensure the day was as good as it could be. It was great.Going back for a Christmas Party night, and no doubt, will be booking into the restaurant sometime soon.

Stumbled across this pub on the way back from a day out in the Essex countryside and was so glad that we did. The Sunday roast was excellent, very tasty and plentiful. There was a nice vibe and the three young waitresses that served us were all a credit to the establishment. All in all a very enjoyable experience and another visit is definitely on the cards next time we are visiting the area.
