I have left a pretty poor review only last month, but we went back in for dinner tonight (it was late, and every other kitchen locally was closed) and I have to say this felt like a different place. Our waitress was lovely. and attentive, and the food great! We paid at the bar and were introduced to the new chefs (compliments to you!) by the new manager who has been in situ for a matter of days. He was professional and welcoming, had we not needed to get home we would have stayed and chatted for longer. We really hope this is a sign of better things to come. This pub and restaurant has such great potential and there is a need for something good locally (the pub opposite is a shocker!). This was my first visit to this establishment, for lunch with my sister. The pub is set in the heart of the countryside, well away from any disturbances. Although there was no designated 'disabled' parking space, I did not find it difficult to park as the pub was not very busy..We were greeted by an extremely cheerful landlady(?), who throughout our visit did everything to make that visit highly acceptable - nothing was too much trouble. The interior of the pub is clean, bright and well decorated. We chose to eat outside in the garden, which could have done with a modicum of tidying up but was well shaded by mature trees.I had the steak and kidney pudding. The meat was tender, tasty and there was no sign of gristle or fat. The vegetables were cooked to perfection - not over cooked - and there was lashings of quality gravy. My sister had the scampi, chips and peas. The chips were cut to an adequate thickness and were pleasantly 'tender' with an excellent taste. She also had tiramisu with plenty of double cream. She confirmed that this was excellent.I was impressed with the accuracy of the menu wording -'syrup' sponge not 'treacle' sponge and the correctly labelled set 'teas.'The whole meal was excellent value for money and a thoroughly agreeable experience. .Thank you for your wonderful review. We had great vibes about this place, but having waited over an hour for our food, we wouldnât recommend.Apparently the printer wasnât working according to the server. As soon as he realised we didnât have our order it arrived within 10 minutes.We're very sorry you had this experience, alb1412, and did try to explain the situation at the time. We're pleased the situation was sorted, but once again apologise that things weren't as smooth as we expect them to be on your visit. We hope you will give us another chance in the near future.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Visited for a bite to eat but after a partial drink we moved on. The man behind the bar was irritable and blamed our tastebuds for one of the drinks tasting spoiled. After witnessing him ranting at another customer we felt unwelcome and left the establishment.

Historic village pub with comfortable interior and friendly staff. Excellent Larkins real ale brewed in Chiddingstone. Home cooked specials menu, lamb hot pot and cottage pie were tasty. One of the best pubs in the area.

I visited recently with some friends and had an excellent meal. My baked cod in a cheese sauce with mash and vegetables was hot and delicious.The restaurant was lively and that to me speaks volumes. With so much competition these days, people want good food at the right price and that was exactly what we got.Do the people who write negative reviews about the food or service speak to Manager before doing so? No!I look forward to to another visit and will recommend The Bricklayers Arms.Well done everyoneI really appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review and I totally agree with your comments, it is a shame sometimes when we are not given a chance to rectify mistakes or able to change things when not to people's tastes! We used to love walking our dog in the surrounding countryside and then lunching here. A superb pub and food.But it's changed hands and the first time back after that was a luke warm welcome and the atmosphere was not the same. Food was OK though.But then on Monday we went in at 12 to book a table for after our walk and was told that it would be no problem to fit us in on our return. We walked. We returned. We were told they were fully booked! I didn't even bother complaining to the obviously fed up staff. Not a happy place.So that is that, a real shame. We won't be returning.

We visited on the way back from Gatwick airport to Kent.Easy to park good service the presentation and taste of the meals we had was excellent will go back when we are next in the area.

Be aware food must be ordered before 9pm staff not very accommodating or flexible. Limited food menu. Locals seemed to get served after 9pm though! If sitting in the area at the back drink up early as they like to close the area before 10.45! Bit difficult in a large group to stand near the bar and block the way. Have you guessed as a visitor it was uncomfortable, best go with a local. Shame.

Lovely pub right on the green, great atmosphere but quite expensive drinks. Would visit again and perhaps try the food. Please do come.We are very proud of our food & it is exactly as it is described on the menu.Sundays can be quite busy between 12 & 2 so please book.
