Levanto Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Levanto

November 30, 2017 Etsuko Causey

Just north of Cinque Terre, Levanto is often used as a gateway to those less easily reached villages, but has much to offer on its own in the form of sand, sea and sights. Its great waves make Levanto very popular with surfers. Hikers love the surrounding hills, gorgeously covered in pine and olive trees. The town’s medieval castle is perfectly preserved, and several beautiful old churches are here. Many of Levanto’s most important buildings are centered on Piazza della Loggio, the town square.

Osteria Tumelin

Welcome to Osteria Tumelin Among all the symbolic buildings of Levanto we can find Casa del Capitanato, built up during the XII-XIV century. It is a really suggestive building with a gothic-romantic style, located in the historical centre of Levanto. In the low ground of Casa del Capitanato, you can find another symbol of the town:Osteria Tumelin. Here you can find the best food and the best Ligurian cookery tradition. We started our activity in 1970 , which means more than 40 years of onorate service and success. Our philosophy is about valorization of traditional cooking, paying special attention to taste and pleasantness. And here we go to a virtual tour inside the Osteria Tumelin waiting for you to become our costumers and welcome guests. Specialities

What a lovely restaurant. We are inside but outside looked nice too. We were served by I suspect one of the owners, a lovely lady who spoke only Italian to us, but we understood almost all. We had tagliolini with polpo ragu and shared it, as we have learned portions here in Levanto are quite large. Perfectly al dente pasta made in house was devoured. So we'll seasoned and fresh! Next I had the mixed grilled fish which was huge. The char on the selections have such depth of flavor and the juices released was excellent to soak up with bread. My husband had zuppa di crustacio. A deep fresh tomato sauce/broth tasted strongly of oregano and came with a very hearty dark bread which itself has a nice toasted crispy crust . we also had a contorni of grilled vevetables, all with that great char and very good olive oil and seasoned to perfection. Service is very good without being formal or stuffy. We also enjoyed the house white wine, a very dry light wine from Levanto. Food is not cheap but a very good value for what is provided. This one was really really good!

What a drive and meal last night above the coast near our week's self cater facility in Levanto; playful invigorating turns everywhere with fulsome Mountains the norm. Antica Ustaia Zita is a wonderful opportunity compared to those flickering lights below - from what now suggested a distant galaxy- where we thrust our engines above. Actually it takes less than fifteen minutes from Levanto and is quite easy in the downward return with no springtime traffic upon meal's end.
The place was packed mostly with Germans, a few Italians, and after awhile, the two Americans. They were awaiting the arrival of their New Yorker who, two months ago, made phone Reservations involving different nights.
We were their first such guests in recall, but they were equally warm and inviting to all. Almost everything appearing on the table is achieved by the work of their own family, or persons known personally nearby. There is no sign for this "Agriturismo" and once arriving, we were saved by a mid eighties gent who took us up two flights of stairs a few buildings from where our gps told us to park, through a marvelously ambient aged tunnel, around a few curves, and finally through a heavy door beyond which lay an amazing dining room; Seating was encased in glass seemingly suspended between the Mountains with no terra firma to be seen behind or beside -- only across and fascinatingly far beneath our cozy rectangular bubble in the sky.
There is no printed menu despite multiple options as freshness is Antiga Ustaia Zita's guide to each day. For a house antipasto, their own family produced some of four kinds of the freshest salume with tasty grainy maize flatbreads (delicious with EVOO, salt and pepper). We ordered waters, and half carafe of tasty robust local red wine.
Our main dishes consisted of two incredible home made from scratch primi: one green fettucini coated in a very subtle pesto uncommonly achieved, a spinach and cheese ravioli with wild mushrooms (both perfectly al dente), a generous portion of paese style artichokes, rabbit AND shoulder bone pork for me ; they suggested since I couldn't easily decide and it was not too busy, why not take a half order of each, chicken al forno with olives and wild mushrooms for my wife.
We couldn't consider the most visually appealing desserts, having doggie bagged HALF of each of our dishes. Here comes the craziest part. The total bill with a generous tip came to an amazing E45 complete! We're returning soon (as I'll be cooking a bunch other nights) ordering but one appetizer, one primi and one secondo with one side, one dessert, wine and water and splitting it all for what we guess will come to possibly somewhere with tip finished (and full) in the mid to upper E30s range. For that investment we'll assuredly be stuffed. If you're staying where it's possible to reheat, go for two of each and enjoy what's left over for another satisfying dinner dopodomani
Driving down the mountain back to our house might have been a more involving challenge if anyone were on the road.At such times, my wife's usually good at such for a variety of expressive epitaphs in the form of Whews, Oh Lords, Ahhhs, Ugghs, OMGS, WHOAS, the occasional Holy Llama Dung and the rare but operatic T*&#K#@V !!!

Dined here tonight with a friend and had a really great experience. We started with a 1/2 liter of house white wine and the smoked tuna starter (so tasty). After we shared the seafood pasta....All I can say is wow. Whenever I dine out in the area I never fail to order a seafood pasta. So, you can assume I've had my fair share. The mixed seafood pasta here was one of the best I've ever had in Italy. Note* a minimum of two people can order it but it is more than enough. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Levanto! Bravo Da Rino!!!

Ristorante L'Oasi

It’s a small family run restaurant, representing the excellence of the Italian Riviera cuisine since decades, first in Soviore (the shrine above Monterosso), then Bonassola and today in Levanto. Our cooking skills, whose knowledge is given by the experience and the love for this work, always give great satisfaction to both us and our our customers. Our menu is based on fresh fished fish, selected personally every morning at dawn by Claudio and cleaned directly in the restaurant kitchen a few hours later, upon Delivery. For this reason, the menu may vary depending on the catch of the day, as well as the price per kg which is fixed to the rod. Let us advise you when ordering for the best options. Our dishes and sauces are cooked when ordering and and we only use a few fresh and light ingredient, just to enhance the fish. Lella, Claudio and Fabio

Commenced our meal sharing an antipasto style mixed seafood range of dishes. They were lovely especially the achovies and fresh tuna and swordfish. Then had the prawn and seafood pasta dishes, very good, extremely generous serving, accompanied by local white wine. A lovely dinner. Ate outside on the little verandah, ensure you ask for the mosquito coil and citronella candles to be light as there were mosquitoes. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. English menu available.

We ordered the Degustation Menu, not realising quite how much food there would be - including delicious gnocchi (but enough for 4 not 2 people!) The restaurant is quite old fashioned in appearance, and is clearly popular with locals. Service was good and friendly, and food well cooked.

We visited Antico Borgo with high expectations, and were more or less dissappointed.
We arrived 4 persons and were heartly welcomed by the host and from now on the standards went down
We did not get much help to compose the menu from the busy waiter. A pasta dish (primi) with lobster hardly contained anything but pieces of lobster shell. Another primi consisted of a small portion of pasta surrounded by 10-12 mussels.
To be fair the sea bass as a main dish was rich and excellent.
Another star is lost from serving an (excellent) Montalcino Rosso at 25 Celcius.
The waitress reacted quite rudely when asked for a wine cooler. First comment: in Italy we always serve red wine at this temperature.
During the meal we did not get much attention, and it took almost half an hour to get the receipt.

I ate solo there my first night as my travel partner was ill. The food was great, but a little too expensive for my wallet. I ordered the anchovie anti-pasta and it was wonderful. At 15€ it included several varities at room temperature. I was surprised when they brought a second plate of breaded and sauteed varieties. A very nice sample of a fish for which the area is known. I had a small salad, a couple of glasses of wine, and a bottle of water. With set-up fee, my Bill was 35€.
I recommend it if you want a fine dining experience in Levanto.

Managed to get the last table early on in the evening. You can't make Reservations so you have to queue outside until a table becomes free and there were plenty of people starting to queue after we sat down. Choice of food was mainly fish dishes with plenty of choice. Food was really good and service was excellent.
