Robata Renga

Reviewed By Michael-Hawaii - Hawaii

Robata Renga is next to the ANA Crown Plaza Hotel and across from the Wharf. We went there on the recommendation of our hotel. It was great!
Since English was barely spoken we chose a set menu based on a small picture that was on our brochure. They brought our food out and we were surprised at the quantity. Oops! We are only 2 and the food could easily feed 4 or more. Since the price was about 5,000 yen we expected a lot less.
The menu consisted of sea food (fish, scallops, giant shrimps, etc. and meats to be grilled on our large charcoal grill. Also included were sashimi, fresh oysters, chicken and pork that was battered and fried and sautéed veggies with salmon.
Everything was fresh and delicious. My only regret is that there isn't a Robata Renga in our home town.

I was a bit reluctant to go to a kaitenzushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant, because usually the quality is not great, but the lovely lady of our ryokan strongly suggested this one, so we decided to go. What a fantastic surprise!! The quality is really high, the fish slices are really generous, and the price is super affordable. Overall amazing value. I went again the following night, and I can't wait to visit again!

Here is near 幣舞nusamai bridge.i have ever been to here.inside is large.and stuff are very kind. Menu is delicious.price is so so. But if u try eat here, u feel valuable.coz. all foods are good volume.

The market with a free underground car park (for first 2hours) offered many stores selling local produce and restaurants. However, the attention probably centred around main eating area surrounded by stores selling sashimi and various cooked seafood where you get to mix and match.
Prices were certainly lowered than restaurant but what we remembered best about this place was the varieties available. There were like 5-6 different types of prawn and 8 types of salmon sashimi alone. Apart from fish, clamps, various types of lived crabs were also available. Hanasaki (Flower blooming) crabs were in season during our visit and that was really good. Not as meaty as the King crab but more sweet. We shared one for the 6 of us but we saw a local guy eating one by himself!
We bought from a few stores and most of them speak some english or just pointed to whatever we wanted if necessary. The only problem we had was finding a good sake to go with the food so we had to buy one further away. BYO nice sake if you like that!

It was worth looking for this robata place during a recent trip to Kushiro. While there was also pork and chicken, we opted for seafood to grill and small bowl of sashimi-don. The freshness is confirmed by the sweetness and juiciness of our seafood. We especially liked our scallops grilled in soy sauce and our crispy shishamo. The wait staff is friendly and helped us grill our food to perfection (even helped us call a cab in stormy weather). There is free flowing hot and cold tea. To get here we took a bus and short cab ride from the Kushiro Airport. This place closes at 2 pm, so make sure you reach by 12 to leisurely enjoy your meal.

Robata

Robata is located right next to the MOO, inside a white tent facing the harbor. We wakjed near there on a chilly night and this was the best decision ever for dinner. There were about 6 stalls inside selling fresh seafood which will be grilled over the hot charcoals. It is a very local affair and they thoughtfully gave plastic bag to store our coats so as to not get the BBQ flavors on it. This is really Japanese street food.
We bought vouchers at the counter on the left corner at 1000 yen each. Take note that the vouchers needed to be used completely on that day itself and cannot be exchanged back to yen. There are signs written in English for the instructions so it's quite easy for foreigners. There is an assorted array of local seafood delicacies (oysters, scallop, crab, prawn, hokke) and also meat cuts and vegetables as well (the corn and mushroom is to die for). These are all very value priced as well and it is much cheaper compared to a similar product in Sapporo or Otaru.
I will definitely go there again next time in Kushiro. The juicy oysters and scallop's sweet flavor still lingers in my mouth till today.

Small homely restaurant serving great food. Very reasonable prices, with half portion available for those with a smaller appetite. Must try dishes include the kokanee (deep-red sockeye salmon indigenous to Lake Akan) and the speciality lake smelt prepared tempura style. The ebi tempura is also excellent. English menu available, and limited English spoken.
