Kigali Hotels | Places to Stay in Kigali

Inhabited since the 11th-century, what is now Kigali has been the home of Twas, Tutsis and Hutus. The city sits on a series of verdant ridges and lush valleys, and has a Muslim Quarter and a bustling market. Rwanda's capital is the site of battles that left over a million, mostly Tutsi and moderate Hutus, dead. Kigali Memorial Centre is a permanent memorial to 1994's Genocide, built on a mass grave where 250,000 are buried. Kigali City Tour Bus offers an excellent introduction to this now safe, friendly city.

The Kigali Serena Hotel experience was excellent from start to finish. We had a professional, friendly welcome upon arrival. Registration was swift and I has taken to my room within minutes. It was a real treat to run a hot bath! On the first morning, I had a lazy breakfast in my room while I worked. Internet worked well. I had an early morning swim on my second day, followed by breakfast on the terrace. (It's impossible to not overeat at the Serena's incredible breakfast buffet!) The Maisha Spa offers a variety of massages and facials using the gorgeous Elemis products (the same ones that are provided in the rooms). I regret not making time to use the spa on this occasion... so I mention it as a reminder to future guests to give it a try. I have used Serena's Maisha Spas in Uganda and Kenya and been very impressed. Thanks to everyone at the hotel for another great stay!

Great stay at Yambi!

I stayed at Yambi for about 2 weeks during a solo trip to Rwanda. I am so glad I chose to stay with them! The staff was so kind, helpful, and accommodating. Everyone was so knowledgeable about the city and gave me great recommendations as well as taught me how to navigate circulating around Kigali. I stayed in a private room which was spacious and clean. The property is safe/secured a d well situated, not far from the main areas in the city, and easily accessible via moto taxis. They were also able to help me book some excursions including a Gorilla trek and a trip to Kibuye. I would definitely stay here again! Thank you to all the lovely staff at Yambi!!

Hotel Des Mille Collines

Welcome to Hotel des Mille Collines The legacy of hospitality in Rwanda for more than 45 years Inspired by Rwanda’s unforgettable geographical terrain, the hotel derives its name from its motherland known as the “land of a thousand hills.” Inaugurated in 1973 as the premier grand hotel of the country and becoming a shelter to, a light of hope in the darkness for a terrified crowd of up to 2,000 people who were saved by the hotel opening its doors in 1994 during the Genocide against the Tutsi; Hôtel des Mille Collines is surely the most famous hotel in Rwanda. Located in the central business district, the hotel allows you to enjoy the breathtaking views over the hills of Kigali while indulging in culinary delights from casual to fine dining, international cuisine to local signature dishes!

So-so

Not the best experience. Came here for a day trip to use the pool and have some drinks. It's a site of historical significance, so it was interesting to see. Poolside staff had some odd habits and appeared to hover at times. When one child reached for a towel on separate chair, a staff member borderline barked at the kid for taking a towel saying it wasn't necessary. I did not care for the hovering of pool staff. Leave paying customers alone. It made for an unwelcome atmosphere. Glad to have seen it, but wouldn't come back or stay here. There are nicer spots nearby with much better customer service.

I sent my clothes for laundry and did not receive some in-spite following up several times. Two times I found the room had not been cleaned and I had to personally request for it be done. The front office staff were not helpful and even tried to overcharge me on my stay luckily I had kept receipts of all the payments I had made. This reconciliation exercise almost made me get late to the airport. The food in the restaurant is good but staff get overwhelmed when there are many guests.

Good family run Hotel

This is a great local hotel located in the local part of Kigali and therefore you are in the middle of the town with a market just behind the hotel and a lot of local shops around, the service is great, people with a smile and always prepare to help, rooms are ok, a few issues with the shower but the view from the balcony to the Mt Kigali is something - Overall this is a good place to stay if you stop in Kigali for any sort of trip.
