A wonderful, relaxing stay
Reviewed By EgyptSarahReally enjoyed our two night stay at the old theatre inn. Such a beautiful historic building. Rooms were cozy and comfortable. As it’s a historical building water pressure was a little low but this is a minor detail when staying somewhere so magical. Enjoyed delicious dinner and breakfast at the Inn. We had a car so it was easy to get around. Hotel is set in a small village about 2k from Shaxi old town. Was so glad to be staying here and not in the town itself. Staff were so helpful, efficient and kind. A great stay!

Great local place, close to ancient town!

The location is super close to walk and explore the ancient town. The little hotel is full of courtyards and quaint sitting areas. Our room was impressive, large and clean. We were on the 1st floor and would have enjoyed the 2nd floor so we wouldn’t have to hear footsteps. My wife enjoyed the very comfortable bed, modern bathroom and strong water pressure. We did both dinner and breakfast. The chef was eager to cater to our vegetarian ways and neither meal disappointed. Excellent place to stay in Shaxi!!

Beautiful small yard and garden guesthouse

Rooms are arranged around the flower filled yard, and a simple breakfast is also included. We chose the upstairs room with a small living room. Accommodation is relatively simple, but comfortable, hot water was a little intermittent at times but not a problem. There is WiFi, and a short walk down the small lanes into the market square. A very lovely place to stay.

Reviewed By ochassotA very nice family operated boutique hotel, that boasts large traditional rooms with modern bathrooms and all the amenities you would need. Many rooms come with a private terrace. Nice Chinese breakfast, and fresh-leave tea is available in your room. There are about 7 cats roaming the premises. Taxis are not allowed in this part of the Old City, but the main road is only a 5 minute walk away.

Welcome to Shaxi Laomadian Lodge Laomadian signifies 'Inn for old horses' and it used to lodge caravan owners traveling on the Tea-Horse Caravan Road, from Xishuangbanna to Tibet and further, transporting and trading mainly tea, but also other merchandises like salt, silver, copper etc. Situated between Dali and Lijiang, near Jianchuan, Shaxi was one of the important trading centers on the Tea-Horse Caravan Road since several hundred years. Reviewed By Megan-CheltenhamThis guest house was just as I imagined. The rooms are a bit smaller and darker than I anticipated but what does that matter, we were only staying for 1 night. We had a small table and chairs outside of our room overlooking a small court yard. It was my birthday the day we stayed there and I was given a very impressive cake courtesy of our tour company, China Links, which we shared with the staff. In the evening we were given cheesecake to finish off our dinner as an extra birthday treat. Due to the time of year, the evenings and early mornings were a bit on the chilly side, but we were very cosy once we got into bed. There is a small portable radiator in the room if needed. The breakfast was made to order. It was a bit dark and chilly in the dining room, so needed to wear a light jacket. Due to the nature of the building, I don't think the sun's heat can penetrate the rooms so just be prepared to wear extra clothing until it warms up.

Dorm beds, standard rooms, different kind of coffee, drinks and food are available for travelers of different styles and budget. Our Mojito is made by fresh picked mints from our organic garden. Our family dinner is the best way to meet other travelers and staffs. We can cook vegetarian food and other food under your request. We also organize single or multi-days trekking, climbing and horse riding trips to countryside and different Yi and Bai minority village to give you a deeper insight of the local culture. simply a wreck of a hotel with good rating for no reason
Reviewed By yuvall58calling it an old school hotel is just an excuse to serve you a small, whacky room, with unacceptable standards. the entire room ceiling was 1.9 meters so tall guys beware. the toilets could not be used with door shut. windows that fell apart as i was trying to open them for some fresh air. the location is nice but that alone cannot justify the ridiculous 100 yuan/night price tag. disappointed and will not come again.

"BreezeHill Residence" is a beautiful courtyard boutique inn operated in a detail-focused way. Freshly opened and conveniently located in the South Guzong Alley, within 2 minutes from the town centre where the theater stage stands. We offers 9 stylish guest rooms and suites, with 24-hour hot water supply. We have a small but vibrantly designed lounge serving breakfast and afternoon tea. The entire boutique inn was redesigned amd regenerated from a traditional Bai Nation's wooden house. We aim to keep a great atmosphere of quiet, while there is a bit limitation on sound insulation in ths most busy season.

Rooms are well-appointed, convenient electric plugs, they turn on a space heater in winter and have it running when you return in the evening, there's Japanese horse oil products in the bath. Breakfast is generous and very, very tasty. Coffee is exceptionally good for China. Just about everything about this place is wonderful.

Reviewed By DANIEL LThe hotel has been open quite recently. It is very well decorated in a sino-japanese style. The room is large, modern design. Ask for the best rooms, at the second floor. There is a quite agreeable courtyard where ii is very agreeable to relax, have tea, and discuss with the staff. There is no restaurant but the breakfast (chinese, but acceptable for a european tourist) is served quite rapidly in anise room, with a excellent view on the surrounding roofs. The hotel is located close from the main square. A stop in this hotel is quite relaxing and just memorable

Reviewed By Jenny Wmy bf and I decided to come during winter because there are less people around. we booked this place on trip advisor cause the photos and reviews looked promising. like the others here have mentioned, the room was not necessarily the biggest, but it was big enough and we stayed in there comfortably. we thought the heating was good probably because we are from Canada :). Dont get how people could complain about the washroom floor being wet, i mean c’mon, what are you expecting from one of the most remote ancient towns in the country. Plus they provided you with slippers! Honestly, for people who plan on visiting Sha'Xi, be mentally prepared and dont expect much from ANY of the hotels over here. even though Gumo Boutique Inn was the only place we stayed at, we did look around honesty thought this is probably as good as it can get at this price point. The pricing was fair, the room was cozy, the breakfast was delish and the host was really friendly. but we do agree that the place could use some extra lighting at night.

Welcome to Shaxi in winter. Please enjoy your stay at this small traditional village. You are going to have a wonderful trip and get an amazing memory here. Shaxi: Tradional residential buildings, local dishes, culture of Bai nationality, beautiful village scenery and very quite time. Fancy Inn: Wooden structure, we designed the garden by ourselves, and some of our rooms were rebuilded from the traditional residence. In Fancy, you can enjoy both the tradional life and the modern services here. Everything in good quality, natural water, latex mattress, full set toiletries, we have room shoes and bathcover for kids. We have heaters, free coffee and tea and candy, Wi-Fi and 24hr hotwater. You can enjoy quiet time, only sun and clouds stay with you. In our restaurant, Siyue, you can have a happy time, drink,chat, sing, outdoorfilms, even cook for yourself. Or you can give the ingredients to us, we are glad to cook for you. Moreover, we have an IPA cafe named Green Miles. You can have beers, cocktails, and coffee here. You can also make drinks for yourself if you like. We have 2 black labrador dogs named Muer and Sanshun in our restaurant. You can play with them :) PS: NO smoking in Fancy
Beautiful and tranquil hotel inside the village center.
Reviewed By aparoversWe found Fancy Inn after we were disappointed by the hotel where we initially booked a room. Although this hotel looked very nice, it was also next to a building site and adjacent to a heavy trafficed road. Fancy Inn on the other hand was an oasis of tranquility while also very close to the village center, located on one of the many charming village coble stone paths lined with hip and cosy shops, restaunts and coffee bars. The owners (a Chinese couple) were very friendly and offered to get our luggage from our initial hotel while also helping to explain why we decided to switch hotels to the owner of that hotel. They have been hospitable and friendly throughout our stay and were very understanding and caring when our eldest daughter (we're a family of 4) got sick after eating something wrong/off the day before our departure and we had to extend our stay and cancel the taxi they had arranged for us. The hotel is, like many of the hotels we've got see in and a around the village, a two story u-shaped building with rooms facing a courtyard with a garden and terraces with seats to relax. The room we had was neat and clean and decorated in the old village style while also being modern and equipped with all the standard hotelroom facilities. We visited Yunan in winter which means that it still gets quite cold at night, while the days are sunny and warm. The room's one radiation kept things nicely warm though and if that wasn't enough, the beds were also equipped with electric blankets. During the day and at night there was no noise whatsoever, though it has to be said that only a couple of rooms were occupied during our stay. Our kids (2 and 6) could safely play on the courtyard and the rooms was spacious enough to accommodate a baby cot. Breakfast is eaten at the restaurant across the coble stone path and was a set menu with toasted bread and various things to put on, a salad and homemade yoghurt. The coffee was excellent and came from the coffee bar next door which I think was also owned by the same couple. If you want to stay in the village center and you want a quiet place to retreat to with all the hotel facilities you need, while being met with hospitality, then Fancy Inn is definitely a good choice.
