Gamli baukur

This harborside eatery reminded me so much of Gus O'Connor's in Doolin on the west coast of Ireland because they serve the same purpose. The both provide decent eats for people who are on their way to or from a seafaring voyage like whale watching in Skjálfandi Bay or going to the Aran Islands by way of the Cliffs of Moher. No one really focuses on the quality of the food, just on getting some sustenance before or after the inevitably choppy waves take their toll. That was my worry as my last whale watching excursion in Monterey, California, saw the bay receive my lunch.
Not this time thankfully as I knew when to stand up and sit down on the boat. In the meantime, I ordered off the Vegetarian and Light Course section of the menu even though I saw words like 'creamy pesto sauce' and 'fried vegetables'. I settled on the 2,450 ISK (or about $23) Fresh salad with chicken, tomatoes, and olives and also included more than a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. The chicken was properly grilled although it ended up tasting a tad rubbery. I just figured it would help me float should a whale overtake the boat. Otherwise it was just a decent lunch.

We had a 1 1/2 day stop in Husavik, but found ourselves with extra spare time since the winds caused our whale watching to get cancelled. So we came across this bakery while exploring the city (many museums/stores weren't quite open since we were there at the tail end of Winter). This bakery, however, was clearly filled with locals (always a good sign) and everything we ate was really yummy! I was worried that some of the pastry would be hard (it looked hard) but it turned out to be really flaky and tasty! I also had a pre-made Sandwich that was solid. If you want a light lunch or snack, this is definitely the place to go!! The service was also very prompt and friendly.

Restaurant Salka

Cozy family owned restaurant offering steaks, seafood, pizza, pasta or burgers made with passion. Our food is not off the shelf, but homemade from scratch. We offer typical icelandic dishes like lamb and cod or catfish in a fresh, modern style. In the summer time it is great to sit outside in our plaza and enjoy delicious food, snacks and cocktails. Housed in one of the oldest buildings in Husavik and in the city centre you can't miss us.

Ended up visiting this place two nights in a row. Good choice of food and relatively good value - for Iceland! Very enjoyable. Only criticism was that one meal was not piping hot but this was instantly sorted. Very welcoming resturant & can thoroughly recommend.

This place is extremely nice and cozy. Fish soup, mashed and skewed fish were delicious. Prices are a little high, but on the icelandic average! recommended!

Fish and Chips

It is a simple looking fish but the food from here is not that simple to make. The fish from here is just the freshest, nothing like the other fish and chips (using frozen cod).
With limiting amount of seasoning, we can taste how fresh the fish is.
Amazing and highly recommended!

we had heard good things about the restaurant and were advised by hotel to make Reservations. there were a total of three tables occupied in the restaurant so unless there is a large group at the hotel I doubt the restaurant has much business. the food was good but nothing remarkable. service was excellent, probably wouldn't recommend the restaurant unless the weather was bad and you just didn't feel like venturing out, the breakfasts however are very good

We came in as quite a mess of travelers when the three of us stopped in for a cup of coffee. One of us was short on change, but they said it was ok. Then one of us spilled a cup of coffee. They said it wasn't a problem and brought us another one as we cleaned up. Lovely people in a lovely place.

Pulsur (e. hot dogs) are THE Icelandic fast food. Preferred by locals when they're on the road. You can't visit an Icelandic countryside town without giving it a try.
This place has "Bulsur", the original Icelandic vegan hot dogs made of barley.
Make sure to ask for the crunchy fried onions. Just yummy.

We had a lunch at this restaurant. The huge dining room was barely half full. We ordered various meals, which were all quite good, well cooked and dressed. The garniture was also original.
The service is mixed, and the waitress did not appear very friendly while the waiter taking care of us was at the opposite smiling and helpful.
Correct prices.

Under the Whale Watch ticket office (North Sailing) on the main street parallel to the harbor.
Sandwich wraps were average or better. Order at counter. Select a table inside or outside and pick up food when ready.
Counter service is knowledgeable and friendly.
Incredible views on a beautiful small town harbor. I would eat here again just for the views, but the food is ok too.
2 wraps, 1 soda, 1 dessert was 3500 ISK which is not expensive.
