Huaraz Hostels hotel | Places to Stay in Huaraz

May 13, 2023 Velvet Mowry

Huaraz dates back to before the Incan Empire and is a great destination for travelers looking to combine cultural education with relaxation. Explore archaeological sites and the ancient stone monoliths at the Museo Regional de Ancash. Squeeze into narrow Duck Canyon or, for a challenge with a massively beautiful payoff, hike a mountain trail in Huascarán National Park.

Quaint, rustic, peaceful with amazing breakfast and a functioning terrace

Reviewed By bellevued1

A lovely rustic house near the city center (a 7 minute walk to the main square - so close enough yet far from the noise of it and thus a "sleep-spa") and just a couple of minutes away from the road to Laguna Churup and Unchus village - and thus ideal for those who wish to explore the nearby hills, forests and rivers on their own, without an agency - this hotel is one of my favourite ever lodgings in the Peruvian sierra. The interior decor is quaint and includes lovely details as well as a huge fireplace (which works at nights) in the dining hall where amazing buffet breakfast is served which includes among else pancakes, scrambled eggs, veggies homemade brick-oven-baked bread, various juices and fruits as well as desserts. The guests can freely use the terrace above the dining hall where there are amazing views to the surrounding mountains (see my photographs if interested) as well as the courtyard which is ideal for some light exercises or yoga practice. Great for couples and friends travelling together who enjoy quiet, peace and relaxing as well as romantic atmosphere.

Great place to stay while exploring the Peruvian Andes

Reviewed By rinoldaj

During our 2 week exploration of both the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash, we repeatedly used this great hostel as home base. It's incredible value, very helpful staff (Omar) and laid back atmosphere made our stays extremely enjoyable. While we were on tour they kept our extra stuff, gave and lended us maps and were enormously helpful when we had questions. A bonus, apart from the included breakfast, is also the top floor of the hostel where you can enjoy the view of the city, the serounding hills, the sun and breeze.

Selina Huaraz

Huaraz, Peru is known by some as the trekking capital of Latin America, and for good reason. Huascarán, the highest peak in Peru at 6,768 meters is right around the corner, and Huaraz is also home to the archeological remains of the pre-Inca Chavin civilization. Avid hikers love Huaraz as base camp for exploring Cordillera Blanca and other treks. Mountaineering, kayaking, climbing and hiking opportunities abound in this outdoor adventure mecca, and Selina is perfectly positioned to help you take advantage of all of it. Downtown Huaraz has very unique scenery, and Selina’s location gives you ready access to the best restaurants, artisan markets, and cultural hot spots. We’re steps away from the central Plaza de Armas. Stay in our community rooms, privates, or suites to take full advantage of our friendly community and packed schedule of activities. Wellness activities, yoga, games nights, and happy hour are just a few of the things you can expect from our vibrant, fun-loving group of people! Adventure seekers will get their fill in Huaraz, Peru. Climbing access among the Cordillera Blanca and circuit of the Cordillera Huayhuash is easy from Huaraz. While you wait to acclimatize, explore the local artisan markets and museums, or grab a paddle and head for the kayaks. There are some unique pre-Incan ruins waiting to be explored, or time your visit for one of the many cultural festivals that take place throughout the year – like the Carnaval Huaracino in February/March.

Not sure who thought turning this place into a discotheque for non-guests would be a good idea in an outdoorsy town

Reviewed By ErikMerkus

Huaraz is a town that’s all about outdoor activities. Most tours leave before 7am, hence a good night’s rest is important. However, the new manager of the hostel decided it’s a good idea to turn this into a party place with music so loud that we were afraid the windows would fall out. It also violated their own ‘quiet hours’ three days in a row. I’m sure you can earn more money by selling beers to non-guests, but it kind of ruins a perfectly good hostel for outdoorsy people. Location isn’t great either, and 80% of the towels had odd yellow spots. Building itself is stunning, and the facilities very comfortable.

One month at monkey wasi

From October 20 2019 I stayed one month at monkey wasi hostel. Clean and warm beds, amazing community kitchen with gas and an boulder wall for the raini afternoons! All who came to stay here immediately like the calm vibe. It's like coming to THE homebase in huaraz! Gustavo is a always helpful guy, he knows the area and the people, rents gear and gives information for free. The rich breakfast is avaible at the hostel. If you leave for treks you can store some of your luggage at the hostel. As I stayed longer I could notice the community vibes from Gustavo's friends coming and going, leaving this nice atmosphere of changes and travel. And Negrita (perro, dog) and Inti (cato, cat) who are part of the home, just fun to have them around! I highly recommend to meet Gustavo and to stay in monkey. Love, trust and peace to Gustavo, his friends and all travelers!

Fair price, warmth and friendliness. Excellent stay!

The hostel has good accommodation, comfortable beds and clean bathrooms (the showers are great and warm up well). The space has a small and organized kitchen to prepare your own meals. The family responsible for the place is very friendly and welcoming (we were even invited to celebrate Christmas with them). They took care of everything we needed and took us by car to the place where our bus to Lima would leave. I recommend!

Very bad service!

Reviewed By sunshine842

We were very dissappointed with our stay at Jo's place! As we got the rooms one of them was still dirty. Used towels, full trashbins, disgusting! Asking for fresh towels they smelled so bad, that we didn't use them. The breakfast costs 2 dollars, what is about 8 soles. For this money you can get very good breakfast in Peru! But not at Jo's Place. We got only one small pancake per person. The bread was so hard, we almost never saw a bread this hard before. This bread wasn't possible to eat. We begged a bit that we are very hungry so we got one more pancake. If we asked, they also made scrumbbled eggs for us. There was coffe and tea, but no juice, which is very untipical for Peru. At the first day they offered a few bananas at the second day no fruits at all. The tempo of producing eggs and pancakes was very slow and the people who made the food were not very welcoming. The hostel also offers tours to different lakes. But the person who sits in the hostel is almost never there or if he is there, he doesn't seem to have a cloue about anything. Almost about every question we had, he had to call another person, also about topics that belong to the hostel. The garden was nice but the sitting furniture were almost all damaged. We are used to the standard of cheap hostels in Peru and it is totally ok for us if a accomdation is easy, but this hostel is really too bad in it's service and organisation. We don't recommend this hostel!
