OK hotel but the shower is a desaster

Reviewed By J B

Hotel Rivièra Muchik is located at the beachfront of Huanchaco, an unimpressive seaside town for backpackers and national-tourists. Staffs are friendly and helpful. The 3-stars hotel offers rooms over 5 floors. The hotel is situated at the boulevard with rather busy traffic. When you refrain from an ocean view: rooms at the back side are more quiet. The hotel is well maintained, clean and non-smoking. Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet and a simple breakfast with eggs cooked to order. Our practical twin room was adequately decorated and furnished, with good-beds. The room had a TV on the wall, desk & chair and wardrobe. We had a small separate bathroom with washbasin, toilet and shower. The shower was a disaster: no water pressure and no hot water. Windows can be opened. When you don’t care about a cold shower with minimal water, Rivièra Muchik is an OK place for a short stay.

Super helpful and welcoming family owners and staff. Stayed three nights and had a good time experiencing the local Huanchaco culture. Did two surf coaching sessions with John and went out on the caballito de totora as well with an insightful discussion with Santos. Didn’t have time for chicama so I will be back !

Best hostel experience in all my travels

Reviewed By ericlN2967XG

The hosts, Gigi and Dario are the best and kindest hostel hosts I've had in all my years of travel. Dario is very knowledgeable about the local goings-on as well as the local surf breaks. We surfed together once and from the info he gave me, I had some amazing surf sessions there. He also set us up with a day trip to Chicama and recommended a local surf shop from which we rented our boards. Gigi is so sweet. She always made sure that we were comfortable and happy and helped me book my taxi for the bus station. My friend and I originally booked for four nights. I ended up staying for almost two weeks, while my friend extended her stay to almost three weeks. The hostel is steps to the local surf breaks and to several restaurants, the beds are comfortable, the showers are hot, and the wi-fi is fast. Their rescued cats and dogs love to interact with the guests which really made this place feel more like home than a hostel. Can I give this place 100+ stars? We came as guests. We left as family. Muchos abrazos, Gigi and Dario and to your little critters. :)

My best friend and I arrived in Huanchaco unknowingly the last night before the Peruvian government announced the COVID-19 quarantine. We were unsure and scared about the unknown state of Peru at the time and of the world. Our hostel began with a group of 27 people from all over the world in the same situation. The next day, Paul, the owner came and had a group meeting with all of us. He assured our safety and made it clear he would do everything he could to take care of us. While the world seemed to be falling apart, Huanchaco remained a slice of heaven. Food never ran low, spirits were high, and the community came together to step up. Paul took the time fix and upgrade the hostel, working diligently every day he came in. He wanted to make sure that when the world started traveling to Huanchaco again, his hostel would be the absolute best experience for the people who came. Paul’s dedication to his hostel, attention to the safely and well-being of the guests, and incredibly wonderful attitude stands out as being the best experience I think anyone could ask for. The hostel is clean and beautiful. The views of the ocean and surrounding mountains are unparalleled with any of the other hostels in huanchaco. There’s ample storage for surf racks and the location is perfect for several of the swells located half a block nearby. The yoga studio has a stunning view of the ocean and is the best yoga studio in the entire city. The rooms are all beautifully designed and all of the public spaces offer many comfortable places to sit, read, hangout with friends or Don Daco (resident turtle) and his bunny friends. I would recommend ATMA for the chiller traveler who wants to surf and make some friends. It’s not a party hostel but it’s a social hostel that you’re sure to make some friends at. Overall, would highly recommend traveling to Huanchaco to see the warm community of Huanchaco and eat delicious food. The local market, located several blocks away from ATMA, has many local fresh fruit and vegetables for INCREDIBLE prices. 10/10 would recommend and I will always look back at my almost 4 months at ATMA in huanchaco as some best times in my life. Thank you Paul for your love and dedication.

Everything was nice: the room, the food, the people. But there is a point that I really didn’t appreciate and that is unacceptable for me. We stayed for 3 nights and the day before our departure they offered to clean the room which is nice. We accepted it. However I had left some pills on the table and it was gone when I came back to the room. I guess they threw it away. I went to the reception to inform the lady about the situation. It’s a treatment that I had to keep taking and because of them it was interrupted. At first she was acting nicely but then she just didn’t want to believe me and said they didn’t do anything. I told her my medication was at the same place since the very beginning and then suddenly gone with other papers on the table. She didn’t say anything and kept saying they didn’t do it which I think is not a proper way to react when you run a hostel and when you made a mistake. It’s very sad because the rest was nice but this is something I cannot forgive and especially since they didn’t make anything for me to be willing to forgive them.

For anyone thinking that the Mochican Palace Hotel is about plain and bare design, think again. Themed around basic Mochica-Chimu architecture concepts with a strong local identity, challenges preconceived notions of what a design hotel should be, glamorous and nice style. Here, ancestral culture is celebrated in a hip, cool and ultimately entertaining fashion.Located in Huanchaco beach front

Upscale Hotel with Downscale Maintenance & Service

Reviewed By Earlville

Our family of 8 and Peruvian friends booked five rooms at Mohican Palace on July 22. Was concerned about Trip Advisor negative reviews on service and maintenance but hoped that the management had taken corrective action. They had not. We were the only people staying there, apparently reflecting the aftermath of the Coastal El Nino. Floors in rooms not clean, and no towels in our room. Went to front desk to inquire, the person there was obviously only a security guard who did not speak English. Brought him to our room, my wife stood under the shower and pantomimed drying herself so we believed he understood and was getting towels. After waiting nearly an hour, went back to see him and he seemed to indicate he was getting them. Finally, my Peruvian friend was able to communicate with him and he eventually brought the towels. We noticed that many rooms with open doors had dirty linens on the beds, apparently were not cleaning them until new guests would be booking in. Overall a very unsatisfactory experience especially considering the premium price we paid.

Very disappointing

Reviewed By Halles182

My friends and I stayed here as part of a tour group. We googled the hotel before arriving and it looked fabulous. However upon arrival we were highly disappointed. We had all arrived from Mancora off a night bus and were very thirsty in the heat. The hotel didn’t seem to have any water that they could offer or sell to us. The pool is so cold that half of us didn’t dare to go in which was a real shame as the surrounding area doesn’t have much going for it. The rooms are basic, with sloppy paintwork on the walls, stains on the sheets and marks all over the windows and mirrors, and the room doesn’t seem like it’s been dusted in a long time. The curtains are full of brown stains and the room smelled a little musty. By 5pm there was no hot water left for a shower. There are no bath mats in the rooms so the floor was soaked after we had attempted a shower, and the bath tiles are taped on. Our friends in another room told us they have a fridge with a foreign plug which doesn’t fit in the outlet so it was pointless in being there. We slept well, the beds are comfy, however breakfast was a disaster. When I arrived there were 5 people waiting for their food. It only took 5 mins for the lady to take my order (they only serve eggs and bread.) I asked for scrambled eggs, which came out half an hour later after 3 new tables joined and got theirs first. I was given tea bags and I asked several times for hot water which also came out half an hour later. The whole group got everything little by little. A friend got her bread 40 mins after her eggs, once breakfast was finished as she had to run into the kitchen and ask for them. I’m a restaurant manager and 4 tables is nothing to stress about especially when all you serve is eggs and bread. The coolest thing about this place is the dog and the tortoise, but other than that I wouldn’t recommend.
