Pampered

It's expensive, but it all feels worth it. Mandarin Oriental feels like a true experience, not just somewhere to stay. The food is good for Westerners and the perks for being a "fan" are worth it considering it's free to sign up. We were very well taken care of by Mihai and Nicky. The only thing to keep in mind is table service at restaurants takes quite a while. It was a bit annoying when you're waiting for food and hungry.

Comfortable stay.. food was good and there is a free shuttle that goes to the Duty Free Mall. However it is also far from other places.. nothing to see around the area. I like their Hainanese chicken.. made me appreciate the dish which I didn't like prior this trip. Swimming is not allowed on the beach, it seems this is quite common in Hainan so if you want to swim on the beach, choose another area.

I had already arranged the room in advance and confirmed the room type, but I was able to change the room one hour before I arrived, and I also popularized the membership terms. Is claiming that I have the final say, upgrade one level, strict implementation, then other managers before the arrangement is false? What a hypocrite, loyal is this how account managers serve their clients?

Excellent Suite, Outstanding Service, Superb Food

Reviewed By Wayfarer1844

A repeat visitor, I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly for their amazing consistent quality, even during the pandemic. Edition Sanya surpasses high expectations - even during the “special time” when many businesses (understandably) do not hesitate to reduce service and close facilities to cope with the downturn. Not so at Edition! The quality of every aspect of hotel (rooms, pools including a massive warm seawater pool, restaurants, gardens, food…) remains excellent, and they provide little extras (unasked) every day. The service is not only generous and honest but also thoughtful. We were able to eat at Egret (superb Western food - shout out to Tina and Judy for great personalised service), Barbacoa (authentic Balinese food better than you get in Bali, prepared by Balinese Super Chef Imadé , who also greets every guest with warmth and charm), the Market (outstanding breakfast spread, and great authentic tasting Western and Asian fare for lunch / dinner). Other restaurants and bars are also open though we did not try them because we chose to eat repeatedly at Egret and Barbacoa (both worth travelling to if staying elsewhere). If you can, stay at Edition - it offers the full vacation service and exceeds expectations every time. If you don’t stay there; go there to eat- the food is EXCELLENT. Special thanks to Carina, Vikki, Mae and Chef Imade for making reservations and wonderful arrangements. One more thing: Edition provides Dyson hairdryers in the bathroom. Quality, quality, and quality are what they provide.

You pay for the privacy. Vilas with private swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Spacious. A lot of fine details inside the room. The food from the menu is also quite good. The surrounding hotel environmental is beautiful green! Lovely beachfront sunsets. On the minus side the breakfast canteen is really a canteen, gym gear is old, the beach front water is full of plastic things floating not advised for swimming. A bit too pricy just for the villa experience! This resort would need a refresh.

Very Poor Service - Not Recommended

Reviewed By chris d

St Regis - Yalong Bay So over the last few months we have tried a number of hotels in Sanya, check our other reviews to see our favourites. We have stayed at: - Birds Nest Paradise Resort - The Edition - Ramada Sanya Bay - Marriott Yalong Bay - St Regis Yalong Bay - No1 Haitang Bay Each hotel will be reviewed based on star rating and price. In a typical year I stay anywhere from 50-100 nights in hotels. So this review is on the St Regis - Yalong Bay. We had a great experience at the St Regis in Chengdu in August so decided to give the one in Sanya a try. Unfortunately although we wanted to love it, but we could not. Ok so you have to judge the hotel based on the rating, so this is a five star hotel, so being a high end five star hotel you have certain expectations. So I would class St Regis as 5*+ so you would expect the little extra attention to details. So I’ll start off with the good stuff, followed by the not so good. The room although old (10 years) was still in great condition and was very spacious with a large balcony, tub etc. The grounds of the St Regis are huge and well maintained, it even has its own marina, quite a few pools including an undercover one with slides for kids. Although you could access the beach from the hotel, they have built a kind of fake beach raised up on the land above the beach, although nice it’s not the same as being actually on the beach. When we book a hotel we tend to book one night and try it out to see how it goes, if we like it we add more nights, if not we move on to a new location. We only stayed one night at the St Regis. The not so good things: - Checkin was a little slow but acceptable - Our butler (Akim) showed us to the the room and introduced us to the facility of the hotel. - If you’ve not stayed at the St Regis before they assign a butler to you who can assist you throughout your stay. So when you stay at St Regis you will get fruit in your room on arrival, the butler noticed that the fruit bowl was empty, so he immediately told us that he would fix that, but no fruit ever arrived. The next problem was we arrived a little late around 15:00 and were hoping to get down to the pool ASAP for a couple of hours rest and sunshine before leaving to dinner at 18:00 After 20 minutes our baggage did not arrive, our swimming suits were inside the cases so we were stuck waiting, so I messaged Akim and asked him could he chase them up, but no answer. After 40 minutes we were forced to return to the reception to try and find the luggage. What we found is that they had written the wrong room number on the luggage tag, so hence it had been delivered to the wrong room. So after almost an hour of waiting for our luggage was finally delivered and we made it to the beach area. Just after we arrived to the beach got a message from Akim his battery was flat, he had now seen my message chasing the baggage and wanted to offer us a afternoon tea as an apology for the poor service, which was a nice gesture. But to be honest this kind of messed up our plans as we had just arrived the beach (an hour late) and had already arranged our dinner in hailing bay at the Gordon Ramsey restaurant. But we took it, to be honest it was nice, but nothing special compared to other afternoon teas we had purchased previously. After we eat this we were now not feeling hungry and cancelled our evening dinner at Bread Street. So let’s zoom forward to the next morning, breakfast finishes late at 11am so we wanted to go down to the pool at 9am and take some photos before breakfast. So we did this and arrived at 10:30am for breakfast, there was a queue to get into social the restaurant for breakfast, once seated (about 5 minutes) I noticed that many items were empty, given them the benefit of the doubt I returned to my seat and waited for the items to be replenished. After another five minutes I checked the buffet again, still no fruit juice of any type from the seven different types they had listed, many things were out including bacon! And the worse is no plates, I needed to search around to get a plate, this continued every time I visited the buffet in the next 45 minutes. One lonely broken in half plate sat in the plate area for the whole time we are at breakfast, not one member of the St Regis team who was passing this area thought to move this broken plate, unbelievable! On my third round of searching for food and plates at the buffet, I decided to take some videos to post online to show just how bad this breakfast service was....please remember this is the St Regis, not some school canteen, when one of the staff saw me video the empty food areas she came right over and apologised and asked my room number, to which I replied no need. I did not need any more special service or free gifts, what I need is the good service I expect for the price I had paid, and for other customers to receive the good service they had also paid for. At checkout we were again spoken to by the loverly Shirley who wanted to apologise for the breakfast and also by Cedric, both are great employees and did a good job to try and fix the problems, but at this point it already too late. They did give us one box as apology containing some small soaps and shampoos like you would find in the higher end suites. One last think was at checkout, I passed my Amex card to the reception to pay for the room. After we left we found they took the payment from Alipay which we had used for the deposit, and a different amount to the invoice we had received from the reception on checkout, forcing us to call them and ask them to fix the problem, we were promised someone would call us right back, but after an hour still nobody called us, so we were forced to call again....after which Shirley did call us back and fix the problem. The reason they gave for the error, we were dealt with at reception by an intern? seems strange that they are letting interns deal with payments without supervision. So all in all I’m forced to give the St Regis a very low score, to be honest I would avoid the St Regis and stay at another hotel, unfortunately it’s not the luxury hotel that you would be wishing for. In total I calculated that they wasted around 2.5 hours of my day, chasing around for luggage, breakfast, plates and trying to fix the payment issues, for sure this was not the restful and relaxed visit I was expecting. Having just stayed at the Marriott along the street I have to say their service was so much better, if you want to stay in Yalong Bay please stay there or one of the other hotels I’ve reviewed. You should be aware, Sanya has still not 100% returned to normal (Sep 2021), a number of restaurants we had previously visited either had gone or were not operating they same as before. Also due to covid some hotels will not let you in unless your a guest....so it’s difficult to visit other hotel restaurants and bars.

We decided to go back to Sanya for our April holiday. We really appreciate the Club Med philosophy as it really pleases everyone. What tops it all is the friendliness, care and friendliness of its staff. They are truly at the heart of Club Med! Our stay this time has been quite unusual however as there were growing Covid cases in the area and there were some pushes from the authorities to close the hotel. We finally made 5 days instead. Thanks to the care of Eric, the chef de village and its staff, we were informed in time that we needed to shorten our holiday, which we did. Good news, we have a nice little voucher that we will be able to use again! Many many thanks to Eric again, leading a wonderful team, to Zack, Anna, Alex, Stan! thanks to the team at the bar, Rohit, Dany, Patty, Betty, Maulona and Jessica. Thank you to Oliver in sports as well as Jade, Betty again at the restaurant. I am forgetting people, as many more should be on that list! Hope to see them again!
