Little restaurant with kind and efficient service (even though they do not speak any English).
The two unagi sets we tried were out of this world: really tasty, well-cooked and juicy. They were paired with rice, miso soup and little desserts.
Totally worth the slightly higher price than a usual lunch in a Japanese small town.

Nice location near the river. Soba was delicious. (Soba-yu was a bit light for us). The special is June was order large portion noodles for the price of a regular portion noodles. My son loved it and ate it all. He left me with the sushi. Everyone around me seemed to enjoy especially the noodles.

Gujo Sumibiyaki Unagi no Uotora

Reviewed By MBev - Singapore

Gujo, and its neighbouring town Seki are known for their Freshwater eels, given the towns' clean and clear waters.
We made it a point to have eel for dinner the one night we stayed in Gujo, and went to Uotora for dinner. The restaurant closes at 8pm, and when we went at about 7pm we were the only diners there. The tourist town of Gujo quietens down at night after the day tripping tourists leave I guess.
Uotora has a long history of serving up their specialty eel dishes, and this came through clearly in their food. We had the charcoal grilled eel served in 2 different styles - one with a dark sauce and one without, and both were absolutely delicious, and expertly grilled - slightly crisp on the outside yet soft on the inside.
If you are an Unagi aficionado, or even if you've never eaten eel before, this is the place to go to!

My girlfriend and I ate here and couldn't be happier with the food and service given.
From the outside there's no sign of English support but when entering were asked of our Japanese ability and given an English menu which helped with deciding what to eat.
The staff were incredibly friendly and made every effort to help us understand what each food was and how we should prepare and eat it. They even offered us their own ice cream after requesting a dessert menu but being told they didn't serve it.
We had the hida beef set menu and it was great, would definitely recommend.

Sobasho Matsui

Reviewed By Richard271828 - Perth, Australia

We went as a family of five at lunchtime on Saturday. The wait for a table was about 30 minutes as this place is very popular. There are basically three items on the menu: soba noodles, tempura vegetables and a small dessert. We liked all three, and found the soba very refreshing. Yuzu tea as part of the dessert was again very refreshing.
