Had an amazing large shrimp cocktail. And. A liver of water for. Less than 129 pesos. It was delicious and made with love. There are many small restaurants specializing in meat, chicken, seafood , soups. And vegetable items. Additionally all sorts of vendors deal in prepared and raw foods, cooking materials, bulk supplies And home and business equipment. Some vendors sell visitor gifts and almost anything you can think of is here. Prices are excellent and dine even take credit cards

We were just going to drop in for a quick shot. My husband likes mescal. I tried it and didn't like it at all so went there with an open mind, but not expecting to stay. We were the only 2 in the bar and sat at the very comfortable bar. We ended up having Armando to ourselves and stayed a couple hours! Not only did he find me 3 mescals I liked, he helped my husband try some new mescals, and we both learned a lot. Aside from that we got into some great discussions. I'm pretty sure we solved most of the problems in the world. It was a memorable evening - thank you Armando!!

Hands down, Los Huacales serves some of the best food we've had in Mexico. This small, unpretentious restaurant is located above Plaza Baratillo, not far from the main plaza near Teatro Juarez. The chiles rellenos were delicious--well-seasoned with a variety of textures, and the black beans were flavorful. My husband had the pork mole with peanut sauce, and I raided his plate while he was watching the soccer game on tv. The meals were served with a smoking hot plate of fresh corn tortillas and a selection of well-flavored sauces. I had the leche flan for dessert and it was very good. I would recommend this place highly as one of the best places to eat in the city of Guanajuato.

I, like others below, it seems, was tricked into coming here by glowing TripAdvisor ratings. Trouble is, on closer inspection many of the favourable ratings are rather elderly. Something seems to have gone astray with TripAdvisor's algorithm here - I probably walked past 7 better places to eat on my way here, never mind the rest of Guanajuato.I will say on the positive side to kick things off, that the waiter was fantastic and the service incredibly friendly. The spicy salsa that came with the bread had a kick and was actually the highlight of the meal.My starter was a tapas plate that qas not what I was expecting at all - sort of a grilled cheese sandwich with tapanade, some meat and pesto on top. Not amazing but not unpleasant though. Sadly the accompanying wine was mediocre if I'm being generous. Then, the main course was a total disaster. Somewhat against my better judgement, I ordered steak and prawns which came with a pasta side, and some seasonal vegetables. The pasta turned out to bs lukewarm - I was the only customer here so clearly the only explanation for this is that it was reheated (badly) and not cooked fresh. This is unacceptable. I sent the plate back but had it returned in essentially identical condition a few minutes later. Suffice to say I did not eat the pasta. Meat was cooked OK. The side dish of vegetables was horribly overseasoned and far too salty. The waiter was incredibly apologetic and offered a free dessert or drink but I was done at this point. Instead they took 50% off the price of the main course which was an appreciated gesture but really didn't undo what was not a nice meal in any way, save the service.I went and had dessert elsewhere to cheer myself up. There are lots of great restaurants in Guanajuato, but this isn't one.

Stopped by here a bit early for dinner so it was not very crowded. I had the pollo con mole and it was to die for. Served as if in a 5 star restaurant. The servers were extremely friendly. My dinner, with a side of veggies and a mojito was still around 200 pesos. HçThis would be a $30 or $40 dollar dinner in the US. I would highly recommend.

Really good, creative food but the service was not on the same level. Cozy place but the waiter was neither friendly nor unfriendly- just there. A large mezcal list but as I am a novice it was a bit intimidating. The waiter brought a few bottles for us to inspect and the one we chose was passable but uninspired. We got the guacamole “burracho” which was attractively plated if a bit bland. The sherried mushrooms, tomato stuffed with corn, and corn jalapeño fritters, however, were lovely tapas. We also had the prawns which were nicely head in and plump, followed by the decent short rib tacos and my personal favorite, the Chile rellenos stuffed with pork, huitlacoche and a sweet ancho sauce on a bed of barley. For those of you expecting a traditional poblano pepper fried in egg batter you will be surprised and possibly put off, but I found this interpretation to be sublime. As best I can tell they rehydrate an anchor pepper and stuff that with a super tasty pork mixture and top the whole thing with a sweet ancho sauce. Desserts were tasty too- we had a Cajeta tart with lavender ice cream and the avocado sorbet with carmelized bananas! Wow! The service throughout was underwhelming but the food was super tasty.

The breakfast was absolutely delicious; the huevos rancheros were perfectly spiced, and the beans and bacon were tasty. Great coffee, hand squeezed juice, and the service was impeccable. The owner is also super nice, to boot... If breakfast is this good, I can only imagine how tasty lunch and dinner will be...
