The Bulls Head Hotel and Pub in Hale Barns is the perfect place to meet, drink and stay for couples, families and business people visiting the leafy suburbs of South Manchester. The Bulls Head team offer exceptional menus and accommodation for anyone visiting Altrincham or nearby Knutsford & Wilmslow. Despite being just two minutes from J6 of the M56 and five minutes from Manchester Airport, our pub’s tranquil, relaxing vibe is topped off with a wonderful Beer Garden. To be honest, the only people who don’t like our hotel’s location are the airport’s taxi drivers.
From the minute we checked in our welcome was lovely and easy, the room was clean and stylish, very comfortable. We were made to feel very welcome in the pub, easy to book for dinner the food was okay just normal pub food but again our server was smashing. Breakfast was delicious. We slept well and the shower was lovely and powerful. Recommended booking. Thanks for a lovely stay wonderful start to our holiday.

Grounds are kept to a very high standard and are a pleasure to enjoy. Staff are friendly and helpful, and seem reasonably relaxed. The rooms are clean and reasonably kept with a TV, kettle and the usual amenities but they are rather basic and show signs for wear and age, could do with a repaint in areas and in suits are in need of a fix up to cover rust and wear. All in all. A very reasonable price for what you get and a nice place to bed, clean standard rooms just a little dated.

We have just returned from a weekend staying here. The room was nice and clean, space adequate, and the bed comfortable. We booked a table for food on our first night. The evening meal was very disappointing and the service was terrible. Likewise the breakfast was awful. A very poor quality offering indeed and a district lack of staff on duty to ensure that items such as the orange juice and milk etc. were being topped up. During our evening meal as the night went on the bar area became quite rowdy. The bar staff appeared to be joining in also becoming rowdy with certain customer, which I assume were locals. There was a distinct lack of any seniority or management around. I would like to think the management reading this review will take action to improve the level of customer service as well as look at the quality of their food on offer. If you require somewhere to simply sleep over night and don't care much for food or refreshments this hotel will serve the purpose.

The exterior of the building as well as the surrounding area is pretty scary to be honest. You’re opposite a derelict nursing home and run down properties. I think the hotel also acts as a half way house of some sort- that’s the vibe we got, and we could smell weed a couple of times. However, the receptionist was lovely and helpful, and our room was beautiful! We had the double room with an en-suite and the interiors were stunning we were so impressed especially considering how the rest of the place looked. Overall very good for the price we paid, just be cautious of the area.

As far as hotels in Wigan go, The Red Lion is the only pub in the beautiful Lancashire village of Newburgh, which sits on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, just 8 miles from Wigan. Guests can walk or cycle along the canal or relax on the old village green. Our rooms come complete with digital television, en-suite bathrooms and wifi, for an authentic home-from-home experience. Our guests can also enjoy free parking at The Red Lion. Sleep soundly in a kingsize Hypnos bed, on the Beaumont mattress, which is filled with a wool-silk mix and has a surface which regulates your body’s temperature. Choose from a great selection of restaurant quality meals, cooked by our in-house team. Whatever the season, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome from our team in a picturesque setting. Choose from the pub classics that you know and love, like fish & chips, burgers and great desserts. Not forgetting the kids who have their very own menu. Find a great wine selection, as well as a range of soft drinks and spirits. We boast an excellent selection of cask ales, from Marston’s five breweries. The beauty of the North West countryside is nearby. Why not head to the bright lights of Liverpool and a stroll along the Albert Dock, with a variety of shops, restaurants and museums. Or take a stroll through the breathtaking grounds of Haigh Hall Country Park. For all you sports fans, there’s a packed schedule at Wigan stadium, or why not try out go-karting at Three Sisters.
Save your self the time and money plenty of choice in the area food is terrible. And landlord has bad attitude.we were there for a funeral the next day the room was left as it was from the night before dirty sheets! No excuse for that!!!!!!!!!!!

Great visit to the governors. Had a meal for a birthday celebration. Food was good pub grub. Atmosphere was buzzing. We had a lovely time. A special Thankyou to Tania who was a great hostess, really friendly and helpful. My in-laws also stayed over as visiting from stoke. Their room was beautifully decorated and very modern. The rooms were immaculate and beds comfy. They had a great breakfast in the morning and fantastic service from Claire. The staff honestly couldn’t of done enough for us . We look forward to visiting again. Thankyou

4* rating accommodation with silver star breakfast award. Our rooms have been lovingly restored to a standard never seen at the Rake over its 400 years. They are finished mixing the existing character of the Rake with cutting edge modern styling. All are en-suite with either shower or bath. Each room has flatscreen TV with freeview. Internet access available. Popular tapas restaurant on site. Lovely garden/patio area for residents. Set in semi-rural setting with easy motorway access.
Having worked in catering I’m always prepared to give eateries the benefit of the doubt. We visited The Rake (our favourite tapas place) tonight at 5pm. After a slow drinks order we eventually had our menu taken. Front of house staff were pleasant enough. We ordered 8 dishes. The first was bread and butter. We waited an hour. Despite this a couple we knew walked in 20 mins after us (a family), and were served promptly and left just as we were getting our bread and butter. The main dishes then followed but they were way below standard. The king prawns were incinerated an orange colour and served with plain mayonnaise (it’s not the 80s) and calamari again the the same. The rib beef in bourbon sauce, our favourite was sparse though slightly better than the seafood. Yes, The Rake were catering for a wedding, but there’s no excuse serving another table well in advance of a family and then serving poor quality food. We told them we were disappointed but there was no discount on the bill or an apology. This place needs to pay a visit to Engine at Sowerby Bridge because that’s where their customers will be heading!
