Fantastic Value for Money
Reviewed By YallandsA very old building quietly situated on the edge of the historic centre of the town, which has been completely modernised internally. Very clean and well equipped throughout. Good, modern, lift. We had booked a standard double, which was of good size with an excellent ensuite and superb shower. The bed was narrow by today’s standards, but acceptable given the very reasonable price of the room. If we were to return, we would pay extra for a superior room with a larger bed. A good breakfast was provided, with excellent coffee! We were given a warm welcome by Domenico and Rosalba, the delightful couple who own Al Bastione. We accepted their offer of a tour of their cantina (cellar) from which they are in the process of setting up a business selling wines, liqueurs, and other local produce. We recommend Al Bastione without hesitation.

Reviewed By KristofferG74Probably the most value for money we ever had. Beautiful B & B, boutique hotel style. Kind and friendly hostess. Stunning view of the bridge and old religious settlements, walking distance to old city centre. Note: If you drive by GPS, double check the address (59 Via Fontana la Stella) - otherwise you risk getting stuck in the labyrinth of tiny alleyways. Also, this is an old building, meaning there are stairs to climb and no lift. Be sure to check out the restaurant owned by the same owners, Osteria La Murgiana, if you like to have a genuine Italian dinner!

Right in the heart of Gravina,Principe Relais is easily accessible by car. The property is an historical palazzo, dated 1929, that has been renovated to a very high standard. Principe Relais reflects a contemporary elegance with a stylish and luxurious feel. Rooms at Principe Relais feature air-conditioning, free wi-fi, minibar and a private bathroom and they are all very quiet and comfortable. Our suite comes with the privilege of a private steam room. An italian-style breakfast is served daily. Matera is 20 km from the property. The Valle d'Itria and the famous Apulian coast, with its marvellous beaches, are one hour by car from the property. The nearest airport is Karol Wojtila Airport, 46 km from Principe Relais. Kids under three stay for free.
Room nice, not good service
Reviewed By kstraveler81We liked our room at this hotel. The room was spacious, the shower was large, there was a small balcony and the sleep quality was good. However, the service was below par and really influenced my rating. I am aware that COVID restrictions probably has effected their service. However, there was only one person working at the hotel and she left at 7 pm. While she was on-site, she really didn’t put too much effort into assisting travelers. Due the hotel’s COVID policies, the breakfast room was closed and served as room service. We and our traveling companions placed our orders the night before (before 7 am). When our breakfasts delivered they bore almost no resemblance to what we ordered.

They don't serve breakfast but you can use the lunch room with snacks, yogurts and drinks for 5 euro per night. The city of Gravina is charming and all worth a daily stay.

Excellent accommodation and service
Reviewed By hevvyevvyA very comfortable and well equipped room, with a large bath and a sauna. The hotel staff provided excellent service. We were on a cycling tour and had reached the next town about 17km away before realizing we had left a bag at Il Borgo. The hotel staff were kind enough to drive the bag to meet us in the town. Thanks once again for your great hotel and customer service.

In this case it is NOT so! Leonardo and his wife have adapted the receptivity possible to the centuries-old, if not older, building so that the traveler feels at one with the city that welcomes it. The housing structure transformed into a B&B rises with the stone obtained in excavation on its own area: the more one digs in the rocky subsoil, the higher it rises. This is how the whole town, as well as the nearby Matera, arose: from excavation on its azimuth [on the vertical of the observer downwards] it took shape. Those who stay here must understand the minimal architecture, the size of the excavated walls for insulation from heat and cold, the possible windows, the crusader or ogival ceiling, the ventilation studied by the old sages. In short, it is an immersion in the real city and the city is a real museum ... so I live and sleep in the museum. It is precisely the case of this B&B that already excites to see it from the little streets around Santa Sofia, from the pavement that deliberately flows run off in "palombaro" (cisterns), from steep and irregular stairs, from small rooms obtained with intelligent sustainability. An additional note: Leonardo is the Area Manager of the "Cammino Materano" and has a unique willingness to help hikers, search for them and help them in case of difficulty and instruct them remotely by GPS. .... worth more than its cost.

Reviewed By Laurence DIf you, like us, don't want to stay in the centre of town then this B&B is ideal. It is just outside Gravina with no parking problems. The B&B was more than comfortable and clean and the welcome from Maria and her son, Fabio, could not have been more welcoming. We were shown the kitchen and told to help ourselves at any time. Our room had a large balcony with a view of the remains of a fortress which is lit up at night. We booked in for 1 night and stayed 3..... which says it all.
