Tarra hotel welcomes you to meet a picturesque seaside Cretan village surrounded by eucalyptus trees and flowing rivers. It equally provides great opportunities to explore the rich natural environment of the surrounding area, such as Kournas lake, Argyroupolis natural springs as well as the White Mountains which blend harmoniously with the Cretan Sea. The hotel offers genuine hospitality and a family friendly environment coupled with comfort and modern aesthetic. It is built on a prime spot, only a few meters away from the beach and the village square. These rooms can host 2-4 guests.

Great stay at a lovely, friendly hotel

Reviewed By basspdc

We stayed for 10 days at the Tarra, partly because it was near to friends’ house (they live in Crete), partly due to its great location near to the beach and local amenities, and partly because of the positive reviews we’d read. I have to say that we were delighted with our choice. We had originally booked to stay in early July, but thanks to Barking Boris and his Barmy Army changing the Covid ground rules (again !!), and Ryanair cancelling our return flight (but not the outbound - cute hey ! Only have to refund half a fare, and you can’t get back …) we had to hastily re-arrange. Jenny at the hotel (one of the owners, we discovered) was so helpful and accommodating, in helping us to change our dates to thwart Mr. O’Leary’s money-grab; she was there to greet us when we arrived at 11pm, and even ‘reserved’ us a car park space on the road outside the hotel, helped us with our luggage, and this fabulous attention continued throughout our stay, including printing our boarding cards for the return flight. Tarra is a genuine family-run resort, with Jenny, her sister (sadly I can’t recall her name - sorry) and her Mum, Georgia, running the hotel and the well-stocked, reasonably-priced attached supermarket with a great friendly, cheerful and helpful attitude. Our rooms were spacious, modern and immaculately clean (maintained in this condition by the excellent housekeeping staff), with a small kitchenette including larder-size fridge/freezer, kettle, cafetière, cups, glasses … not enough for a 5-course banquet, but more than adequate. There was a flat-screen TV (with some English channels), with free remote control, a free in-room safe and free air conditioning - a real plus in a country with a reputation for charging extra for these facilities. The pool area is clean and well ordered. Tarra provides (free) good-quality pool-towels and there are Sun-beds and tables/chairs aplenty. The only downside is that (probably due to the impact of Covid) the pool-bar and restaurant weren’t available, apart from for the included breakfast. Talking of which, breakfast at Tarra is NOT typically Greek. Presided over, and freshly cooked by Georgia, breakfast is more English than continental. You can choose from orange juice (freshly squeezed), tea, coffee, bacon, fried eggs, omelette, baked beans, tomato, bread and toast - or everything, if that’s your bag. The atmosphere is just like a big family, and it’s not unusual to see guests chatting, walking round, serving coffee and orange juice, collecting crockery …. Sound a bit odd, but it really was a good vibe. So would we go back to Tarra ? Absolutely yes. Right now we’re torn between booking for next May or trying another Greek island we haven’t visited yet, but Tarra is definitely calling us … Thank you ladies - we loved it.

We had come several years ago when the property was run by Sofia and it was really very good. The place was covered with flowers, Georges, Sofia's husband, offered us his grapes and, above all, it was very clean and very nice. We were extremely disappointed because it got worse. The new owner is very nice but the cleaning is no longer done every day; the garbage cans, which are small, are very quickly full which is unpleasant and unhealthy; there is not always hot water in the shower... In addition, you can no longer see the sea from the balconies with all the new constructions. Frankly, there is really better for the same price in Georgioupoli.

Kastellos Village

Kastellos Village is situated in the picturesque village of Kastellos in Georgioupolis, Chania and comprises of two complexes. Each one of these complexes consists of 4 traditional houses built in 1650, but been fully rebuilt in 2009 and offer all modern comforts and a magnificent ambiance to all guests. The complex is ideal for those wishing to escape everyday routine and relax enjoying the Cretan countryside. All houses are independent and fully equipped. They are built according to the traditional architecture. On the outside, beautiful stone work frames the dark green doorways and windows, further accentuated by the pastel strawberry and lemon walls.

This if a very traditional type of Greek House and you are remote!

QUICK EXPERIENCE SNIPPET: The office is located on a hill top (make sure to check out the view from here) with a few villas available and the rest down below. Let the host know what time you will be arriving as they will stay in the office later/earlier to check you in and show you to your villa. My cousin choose to book her wedding guests at the lower villas where it housed at least 15+ people. *****A FULL REVIEW IS ON MY WEBSITE (SEE PROFILE).

Worst hotel ever

Reviewed By inchcherry

This has got to be the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in. Sold as an all inclusive hotel by Love Holidays, it was anything but all inclusive. The dining room was more like a cattle market with food being limited to each person. Pizza limited to two miniscule pieces per person, one drink per meal time. The food was often under cooked (chicken) or over cooked. Our room was dirtier than any hostel I have stayed in - the toilet was black, as was the toilet brush, rubbish left under thew sink from previous occupier. The cleaner visited each day but only to fold the bed sheet back and occassionally chnage the towels - my daughters room had wet towels all week. The towels and sheets were very worn. The staff appeared not to care that complaints were being made every day by numerous guest. Extra costs included paying for sun loungers on the beach daily, wifi at a weekly cost and air con that did n't even work. The beach is quite a walk from the hotel, up a hill. This is clearly a very run down, badly manged hotel that could be nice if it had a complete rehaul. The town itself is lovely with many wonderful tavernas - we ate daily in Summertime and the Nicholas hotel - wonderful food and great hospitality.
