Kontosoros

In a small village of Florina, near amintaio is kontosoros. The food is based on traditional recipies served with a little bit creativity and full of flavours! Very good menu that balances between tradition, freshness and creativity. It has local products such as florinella cheese and red florinis peppers. Find them on the menu and ask for them!
All plates from dishes of the day to a la carte menu were wonderful.
The wine list is strong and the prices are very reasonable, especially for what it serves. The service is friendly and the enviriment very quiet.
Definitely worth going!

This nice restaurant has been recommended to us by a local friend. It serves dishes of home-type cooking, in a warm, pleasant area.
It's close to the center of the city, next to the river. There is no outside view of any kind, apart from one table.
The food is meat-oriented, focusing primarily on intense tastes.
We loved the pork shank, the hunkar begendi, the yogurt fritters and the fantastic bread.
The red house wine is good. I liked the music as well.
The prices are very low, making this place an absolute value for money.
Probably the best choice for lunch/dinner in Florina city, if local food is what you're after and you're not a vegan.

Taverna Prespa

We were in Florina for 3 days in August. By luck on our first evening we discovered this wonderful restaurant. Every evening we ate at Taverna Prespa. We had lots of fun choosing our food, joking with the chef and his wife. We would look in at the counter and we always went with the chef's recommendation which never failed to please. No matter how we ordered, there was always more than enough good food. The squid & Greek salad were my favourites. We highly recommend this restaurant.

If you want a real meal, something you would get in a 5 star restaurant, something different which tingles your taste buds, this is the place to go. The dishes which the owner Costa presents are culinary masterpieces which you would not expect to find in a place like Florida. The prices are similar to other restaurants ( very, very reasonable) and it really is 5 star dining. Ask him for his special dishes, he has a desert made from Kalamata olives, tasty & unbelievable.
The layout of the restaurant is classy and of a high standard, a real surprise find in Florina. I don't know what he is doing in this place, this restaurant would mix it with the best in any major city in the world. Give yourself a break from the souvlaki and grilled meats in the local restaurants and go here and have a high quality meal for very close to the same cost. Great find in Florina.

Koukoutsi

Reviewed By Savvas2013 - Thessaloniki, Greece

The place: just is the center of the city, in a cosy pavement. Opposite there are some other nice place you can keep on later, eg for a coffee, or a beer.
The décor is very nice, the interior designer did some excellent choices I may say. Trendy colors, soft for the eye and spacious tables/seats. An almost open air kitchen.
Apart localities, eg meat, meat, meat, you will be able to try some nice ideas by the chef, eg millelia (kind of pasta, stuffed), tomato chutney with smoked cheese, and other suggestions occasionally arriving.
Portions are typical Greek, big, or much bigger than it is used abroad, so be careful in ordering. Starters from 2.5 €, salads from 5.0 €, main from 7.0 €, bottled beer 500ml from 2.5 €.
And now about the tasting: “koukoutsakia” aka small beef pieces sautéed with red wine and balsamic. Zero. Beef was dried – I guess because it was overcooked, the balsamic was too intense, covering every lighter flavor in the dish and nothing together worked. The small sticks of souvlaki was simply ok, nothing memorable, overcooked and dried also. The beef stake was excellent, soft, juicy, nicely roasted but come TWO HOURS AFTER ORDERED! Of course, most had already eaten and gone… Haloumi with tomato chutney was very good, smoked cheese with herbs also, the green salad typical. And finally the fried potatoes: two plates ordered. The first one was actually smelling like squib! Did they used wrong type of frying oil, dir they re-used oil, did they over-used it, I honeslty don’t know. But what I surely know is that when a customer complains politely about a dish, you are OBLIDGED TO TRY IT ALSO and you DON’T try to find excuses, like we only use the oil once, the fine ones, etc. And of course, you DON’T CHARGE a disappointing plate and YOU CHANGE IT, no matter.
No variety of local wines although near-by Amyntaio is a special area where Xinomavro is cultivated. Only one small winery, Mylos (winemaker Christos Boskos), very good for its price but SERVED COLD!.
No wonder why there weren’t full, and a pity since in the past we had a completely different experience.
