Just about OK.....

Reviewed By Claire R

We stayed for just one night prior to an early flight. The location is good for the airport, the room was OK for one night although the bathroom could do with a spruce. We ate in the pub, the meal was OK. We were glad that our stay was in winter, given the location of the rooms that sit within the garden - imagine it could get very noisy. We arrived and there was a funeral function going on in the pub and lots of people milling about, a little uncomfortable really. The hand gels were empty. We didn't feel the welcome was warm, there was one member of the team that seemed quite friendly and the rest seemed glum. Our room was clean and had good towels. For the price paid, wasn't expecting much as a budget room price. We stay in many budget rooms and our expectations are usually met. This time, it was not. We would not stay here again.

DIRTY ACCOMMODATION

Reviewed By LeicLegalEagle

Upon arrival at the property I found it to be dirty.   We discussed our concerns with the staff and were not provided an explanation as to why it was dirty and what was going to be done about it. My conversation with the staff involved walking around the property and pointing out the issues as listed below. As a result I cleaned the property myself. In addition to this I also disinfected the whole property using Dettol wipes and antiseptic Dettol spray.   The issues were as follows: 1.     Floors were upswept and unwashed 2.     Worktops, chairs, table had crumbs-unwiped 3.     Fridge unclean with remnants of food bits 4.     Cupboards had crumbs and food bits-unclean 5.     Hob extractor fan full of grease-unclean 6.     Bath plug hole had hair-unclean 7.     Bath unclean 8.     Shower and bath fittings unpolished, unclean 9.     Toilet bowl, inside and outside had not been clean and outside bowl has piss streaks 10.  Sink and taps unclean 11.  Radiator bars dusty-unclean 12.  Bath room window ledge unclean 13.  Bathroom floors not cleaned 14.  Outside chair cushions had been left in the rain and were soaking. These were replaced after 2 days along with the chairs. 15.  Outside table was dirty, had not been cleaned and the ashtray still had burn cigarette butts-this was cleaned after two days.      This property was unclean. This is not satisfactory at any time let along during the current climate. When I visit a property I expect it to be spotless. It is unacceptable that when I discussed these issues with the staff that I was faced with a red face and silence. I expected my concerns to be dealt with by the property being cleaned. This did not happen. Disappointed. We submitted a formal complaint shortly after our trip in August and have still not had a response and/or explanation.

OYO Devine Beach Hotel

Whether you're in Southend for the thrills of Adventure island, the miles of sandy beaches or to see a show at the Palace theatre, OYO Devine Beach Guest House is a great place to stay. It's Just 1.6 Miles from Adventure Island and 1.6 Miles from Southend Pier. Set on a tree-lined street, this casual guesthouse has a down-to-earth dining area as well as other informal rooms with Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee making equipment. You can either share a bathroom or pay extra for an en suite. And, if you want to get your day off to a good start, you can get breakfast at the hotel for a little bit extra.

Great bang for your buck

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a luxury hotel, so don't expect luxury. However, for the price you pay, it's really decent. Location is good, the staff is nice and the room is clean (not just the sheets and towels, the whole room looks very clean). You get what you would expect from a hotel room (WiFi, private bathroom), plus some stuff you don't always see (like hair dryer, ironing board). This is NOT a 5 star hotel. But as far as I'm concerned, it should have a 5 star review relative to its price.

Worthy of a visit

Reviewed By Toadfishboy

It’s been running for years, lovely building but never really managed to have a soul to it. Inside, clean and spacious, good beer selection and Kingfisher on draft which is quite unique and very nice. There is a cafe part of the building, food looks nice and as I say, nice and clean. There is a nightclub attached but no sure how busy that part is if still open to be honest in the current climate. Accommodation is good, clean and reasonable with parking. We have put friends in here and they said it was ok, breakfast also ok and no complaints. Is it a destination, maybe not, but is it good for a pint or a snack, or to stay over when in the area - yes

Nice lodge, would return

Reviewed By prince_pablo

Stayed in a 2 bed 2 bath VIP lodge for the weekend and on arrival it was clean and well presented with nice touches such as a little bag of miniature toiletries on the beds with clean towels, coffee, teabags and a pack of kitchen essentials including dishwasher tablets. Hot tub wasn't ready to use until around 10pm on the first night as we was waiting until the temperature reached 37°. The friendly maintenance guys checked the hot tub twice a day to check and add chemicals to the hot tub. Our hot tub was quite private but there are lots of lodges that are not and can be seen from the road by people walking past. Beds were comfortable and so too was the lounge furniture. The garden furniture looks nice but is a little flimsy. The cafe staff were friendly but the food is frozen and heated up. The grounds are well kept and the walk along the river was lovely. There are 3 pubs, one shop and a train station in the village. We would definitely return as we had a really peaceful stay.

Scammers DO NOT BOOK

Not visited yet. Had booked 3 nights in August 22 via Booking.com for £210. After booking i received a text from a man named Lance Middleton (or that is what he told me it was) purporting to be the owner. He had all of my booking information, he stated his reason for contact was to arrange the refundable £100 damage security deposit. Not an unusual request, which i paid to his account. A day later Booking.com cancelled the trip and refunded my £210. When i contacted them they told me the holiday let owners were under investigation but would not go into detail. I have tried many times to contact this Lance on the number he used and have emailed Warren Lodges on their own site. No response…. Conned out of £100 avoid avoid avoid.

Pure class and fabulous friendly staff

I never really take the time to write reviews on places but I simply couldn’t not write about how beautiful this place is! Don’t bother with generic hotels if you are staying within a 100 mile radius of the maldon area come and see the friendly staff and stay in the gorgeous apartments then get yourself down to their tea rooms which are also stunning. I’ve spent more than double on chain hotels who offer a fraction of the quality this family run business offers at a very reasonable price. A genuine jewel that needs to be experienced

For what we paid it was fine. Just stayed the one night. Room had a balcony, bed was comfy, room was quiet and the manager was friendly. Can’t ask for much more. It’s certainly not the Ritz, but it certainly met my expectations for £40. If you need a bed for the night, it certainly does the job
