Don't normally eat in hotel restaurants as they are usualy a) more expensive than and b) do not offer as good food as independent restaurants. Unforthunately there is no restaurant in the vicinity of this hotel in which one would wish to eat. Ate twice here for this reason. Starters night 1 - lentil soup, absolutely delicious, thick green lentil soup, wonderful. Night 2 potato and leek soup, bland, tasteless, underseasoned and warm rather than hot.Mains - night 1 rack of ribs - large portion, plenty of meat but transverse bone at end of rack meant cutting the ribs from the rack was almost impossible.Meat itself very tasty and tender. NIght 2 rump steak - served blue as requested but outside could have been caramelised more. I still do not understabnd this desire to serve chips from from potatoes still with their skins on - detracts from the appearance. Desert - Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Wine? Selection not great, only Rosé on offer is a Californian Zinfandel - ie undrinkable. Chose a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc instead - way too acidic. Second night I stuck with expensivefizzy beer - unfortunately the better option.

Comfortable, tasteful decor with great music playing. Staff were very pleasant, helpful and attentive. Good range of dishes at very reasonable prices.Mediterranean pasta with chicken was delicious, very tasty and piping hot from the kitchen. Cumberland curl and mash equally delicious. This came with very tasty gravy and a small amount of crispy leeks. (An extra vegetable served with this may be a good idea)Chocolate brownie with ice cream and a white chocolate and lime pie with cream were both very nice. Will definitely return

This was our second visit and a much better experience than the first. This time the meat was excellent ( as one would expect considering the proprietor is a butcher). The steak was beautiful and tender and chips were excellent too. The only slight negative was the slow service at the bar but we did get served eventually.Thank you for your review. We are glad this second visit was a better experience and we will take your comments on board in order to improve our service.

Miller & Carter Steakhouse

On average I would say that I visit Miller & Carter once a month with family or friends.Yesterday afternoon, visiting with family, we ordered from the ‘Lunchtime’ menu and I opted for the rump steak as generally steaks are excellent here. Requesting it be cooked Medium / well, it was disappointing to receive a piece of meat which was not merely ‘well’ done but blackened to the point of being carbonised. The onion loaf which accompanied it was crisp and dry to the point of being inedible. I commented to the waitress about both and received an apology and was assured that it would be ‘better next time’. So... disappointing overall on this occasion. Restaurant ambience was as good as usual and the drinks were excellent. Hi Colinb831, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience. We are disappointed to hear that you are not satisfied with your visit. We would like to have a better understanding about your experience. Please reach out to us at [email protected] at your earliest convenience and we will do our best to resolve this with you. Many Thanks,Miller and Carter Sunderland
