It is the main town in the Mansfield local government district and is a part of the Mansfield Urban Area. Nestling in a pocket within the Maun Valley surrounded by hills, the town is around 12 miles (19 km) north of Nottingham. The district of Mansfield is a largely urban area situated in the north west of Nottinghamshire populated by 99,600 residents, the vast majority of whom live in Mansfield (including Mansfield Woodhouse), with Market Warsop a secondary centre, and the remainder in the rural north of the district. Adjacent to the urban area of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Mansfield is the only major sub-regional centre in Nottinghamshire covering an area of 30 square miles (78 sq km). The Centre for Cities (2009) categorises the town as a 'small city', although it does not officially hold city status.

This was our 2nd time having takeaway ... we had eaten in the restaurant but it was uncomfortable as it's so big and apart from us there was only 1 other couple and it lacked atmosphere so we ordered takeout ... it never turned up and despite several phone calls and promises which were empty we received nothing .. safe to say we will not be using this eatery again but there are so many places to eat it isn't a big issueDear Louise Can you kindly get in touch with the restaurant on 01623 232876 after 5pm Tuesday to Sunday or message us on Facebook to let us know what went wrong and when. As we canât identify any complaints or phone calls to our restaurant recently about any problems with our takeaway service. We would love to hear from you to put things right. Regarding the restaurant being big, we are planning a refurbishment soon and hopefully it will provide the right ambience but as other reviews confirm including recent ones we believe we serve very authentic curries and our hand made Nepalese Dumplings (Momoâs) and hand made samosas are unique in Mansfield. We have been regular customers of The Chand for the past year. They do a smashing curry. However our last meal gave my boyfriend food poisoning, so we won't be ordering from here again. We won't want to risk it happening again. The Currys are very tasty but be careful. It was either the prawns or the lamb that made him ill, as I had chicken and was fine. Sorry Chand, I loved your food but this has put me off.

This is the 4th time I have been to WaterLily. Yet again the night was fantastic. The whole Bollywood experience was amazing. The food..... beautiful! Travelled from chesterfield 14 mile each way, well worth it, poppadoms and pickle tray different from other restaurants but much nicer! Starters lovely, fresh bhajis makes a change to taste fresh onion and not crust over cooked ones, mixed kebab starter very nice flavours! Mixed kharai was very nice as was chicken balti tikka masala ! Naan breads good, could have done with a little more garlic but thats personal preference! Over all an excellent mel and will return thankyou !
