Reviews on Mediterranean food in Sandown, England, United Kingdom. Sandown is a seaside resort town and civil parish on the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight, England, which neighbours the town of Shanklin to the south, with the village of Lake in between the two settlements. Sandown Bay is the name of the bay off the English Channel which both towns share, and it is notable for its long stretch of easily accessible golden sandy beach. It is the site of the lost Sandown Castle. Whilst undergoing construction, this was attacked by a French force which had fought its way over Culver Down from Whitecliff Bay, resulting in the French being repulsed. It was built too far into the sea and constantly suffered erosion, until now reduced to a pile of rocks. Later forts in the town include the Diamond Fort (named after its plan), built inshore to replace the castle and which fought off a minor attack from privateers (probably French) in 1788, and the present "Granite Fort" at Yaverland, which is now the zoo. Together with Shanklin, Sandown forms a built up area of 21,374 inhabitants.

A jazz cafe & vegan tapas bar with regular live music set in the courtyard of the picturesque and historic Staplehurst Grange.
We were at Django's for the music, wondering whether the long drive into the countryside would be worth it. Any fears were soon dispelled by the attractive setting, lovely buildings, and friendly welcome. I only had a piece of cake, but it was delicious. As delicious as the music, in fact, but Paul Armfield, like Django's, is well worth finding.

I highly recommend this restaurant. Food is wonderful and reasonably priced. We stayed in Shanklin for a week and were so impressed that we ate at Pavarottiâs 3 times. Youâll need to book, itâs usually busy, but we simply decided on the day and phoned to book during the afternoon. Eat downstairs for the best atmosphere.

The Beach Hut Beachside Bar and Seafood kitchen is a fresh seafood, cocktail & wine kind of place. Quirky. Outdoor. Seasonal. Daytime. On the beach. Reached down wooden stairs. A tiny hut serving seafood platters, cocktails & wines from 12o/c. Chilled. Re
What a beautiful supper we had with friend and family at this beautiful place set on the beach front. Great service, beautiful ambience and quality local food. Local fish was gorgeous and there was lots of choice - highly recommend booking and a visit here.

Mediterranean inspired homemade food and local produce , cooked to the highest level in a stunning little Mediterranean bistro . Breakfast , lunch and dinner all cooked with a twist and the best the island has to offer
Slightly bleak, distant lady in charge here. But the breakfast was decent. You can compile your own breakfast from the menu. So I had two fried eggs, black pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, and brown toast. It was beautifully presented, the highlight being the tasty little red and yellow tomatoes, cooked just right. The fried eggs were a bit hard, though, which is often the way. With a cappuccino and a tea, price was £12.00 odd.The ethos of the small unit was Italian, though without Italian friendliness. The look of the place was good, but the floor wasn't that clean and the table felt a bit sticky. In any case, I left happy with the breakfast and fuelled for my hike.
