This is a lovely little traditional Japanese restaurant. If you enjoy fish, and are open to trying local, do stop by. It is a very limited menu though, and the focus is fish.

The staff are pleasant enough. The English menu rather non-descriptive. The simpler meals were OK but the sirloin was a disappointment. I asked for the meat to be cooked medium-well, but this was beyond the comprehension of the staff. The meat was served slightly seared and still mooing. I sent it back to the kitchen for additional grilling, but it came back as raw s before. Desserts were rather bland.

Asakusa Okonomiyaki Sometaro

Reviewed By ajmoreno25 - Asia

Finally found our okonomiyaki go-to place in Tokyo. Not easy to find in a quiet, mostly residential neighborhood. We walked into the wrong place at first but they said we needed Reservations. Glad they turned us away because we walked down the road and saw a hand written sign here saying “Sometaro”. Wear your nice socks since this is a traditional no-shoes place. An English menu is available & includes cooking instructions. You do the cooking here at your table, but they’ll help
if you need it. The okonomiyaki is made w/ batter, no noodles unlike Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki which is our favorite. But we really enjoyed this. The yakisoba was good, but we’ll come back for the okonomiyaki!

Kamiya bar encompasses all that I appreciate about TOKYo and JAPAN's food and beverage culture. No frills, understated quality and finesse, lovely atmosphere of regulars who come here because it's an institution and it's GOOD. I had a great experience here and would love to return as soon as possible. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but if you know good quality booze, food and local atmosphere and you are willing to put in effort to fit in with the vibe, you'll love this as much as I did.

We were spending the afternoon at the Tokyo National Museum and had our concierge call to make Reservations. We were thrilled to be in the gorgeous restaurant housed in a building from 1875 and the tatami room overlooking the garden. Sitting on the floor was fine, and cushions with back rests are also available. Three levels of kaiseki dinners were offered as well as regular entrees on the English menu. We ordered the mid-level kaiseki dinner that consisted of eight courses. The sublime flavors and attention to details were exquisite! Dinner here was one of the highlights of our trip. And it was not that hard to find at the south end of Ueno park. It is next to Gojoten Shrine (with its lovely tori gates) and Google maps could find it by just inputting the name. Please note that there is no English signage at the front of the restaurant.

You can't miss this shop which is 1 min from the Asakusa Station. There's a long queue almost all the time. It sells the best Dorayaki in my opinion and it is well worth the wait. Definitely don't settle for second best.
They also sell various cute candies and beautifully packaged food gifts. You could easily spend quite a bit on souvenirs there if you are not careful. So hold on tight to your wallet!!

Actually...my review title is a little misleading. I am not Mexican, so can't really say if it is authentic mexican food as I have only tasted Australian notions of Mexican food.
However, the ambience of the place was good with a Mexican theme (of course) and a relaxed atmosphere.
At any rate...I really enjoyed the food. I ate there on two occassions. I would have liked to have made it three. However, on the third occassion they were so busy and I was so hungry and tired of waiting that I decided to go to an Indian restaurant around the corner.
That is probably the only down side to this restaurant....they are very popular with the locals and tourist alike.
The restaurant sells the usual Mexican fare...and I can't recall exactly what it was that I ate, but I do recall that I was very satisfied with the quality of the food and service.
I have a penchant for Calamari...and like Jason in his search for the golden fleece...I have searched far and wide for the golden Calarmari.
Well I have to say that the Calamari at this restaurant was brilliant. On the second occassion that I ate there, once again I ordered and was served excellent Calarmari. As I was eating this serving the waitress came to my table apologising profusely and holding a small plate with a piece of Calamari on it. Apparently, each serving has to have a precise number of pieces and mine was deficient one piece....
THAT is what I call service!
I thoroughly enjoyed eating there. I was disappointed that they were so busy that I couldn't eat there on the third occassion as their menu is extensive and everything I had was great.
So...go there.
