Lao owned and run by Nisa and her expat husband Sel. We served a wide variety of cuisine including some of the best indian and western food on the island. Browse through our music database or cue some songs on your own device. We like to serve up good times with plenty of cold Beerlao, domestic and international spirits. Riverside view just 10 meters from the beach landing of Don Det. We speak fluent English and can guide you with any query. If music is catching your ears on Don Det, there's a good chance it's the 4000 Island Bar. We want you to enjoy your stay in Southern Laos.
This place is a great spot to hangout for a beer on the balcony, or grab a delicious curry. The potato-based curries are amazing, and cheap. Perhaps a little dark inside, and the music kept cutting off, but not far off full marks!

I've eaten breakfast here several times and been quite satisfied. Service is relatively speedy and efficient. For dinner, though, I'd favor Tavendang Restaurant or, if you're in a spendcy mood, the restaurant at Auberge Sala Don Khone.

superb bungalows at the river front facing north west, good view at the sunset. rooms are clean, bathroom looked new incl. western style toilet, shower + boiler, fan over the bed, mosquito net, hammocks, tables and chairs on the balcony. the staff is very polite and nice, but they may take their time for preparing your dinner (could take about 30 minutes to get served, but hey, this is lao!). the banana pancake was very tasty, also try their veg. food! they could also arange boat and bus trips to different cities. location in ca. 250m east of the don det/don khon-bridge.
had an amazing time here!

Located directly on the banks of the Mekong River, Mama Leuah offers clean and simple bungalows with ensuite, balcony and hammocks - perfect for enjoying the amazing sunrises! You can also relax in the restaurant while enjoying excellent asian and western dishes, great coffee, fresh fruit shakes or a tasty cocktail. If you're lucky, you might even get to witness a breathtaking moonrise!
I was in the restaurant of „Mama Leuah“ three times and had different dishes. Each one was just excellent. Atmosphere great: very well mantained wooden construction of the restaurant, cordial service of the very likable laotian - german couple with son, unobstrusiv music combined with the wonderful view on the river. Super.

If you are looking for the local food that not expensive. I think you should to find other. The food quality is good but a bit expensive. One meal for us was expensive than our room in Don Khone.
You guys should have dinner here earlier before sunset. You will enjoy the French bridge.

1st fish restaurant in Don Det.
We found this restaurant on a hot day while searching for the perfect bungalow. Among Laotian food you can also order the national foods of Neighbouring countries or some more European meals like Burger. Especially good was the offer of specialties, that weren't even on the menu but were at one evening just recommended by the very nice German owner Mike or his even nicer wife Tip. My Husband had special salty fish made in Banana leafs (unfortunately I cant eat fish, so I didn't try). At one point we had chicken filet of best quality with a special egg salad and mashed potatoes, which was soooo good. My recommendation of the menu is the yellow Curry, which has a decent spicyness. Also, while eating you will hear a lot of Don Det-Gossip which makes for good entertainment! I loved it there and hope to be back soon.

Very nice spot on this island, direct view to Mekong, nice people, good food, low prices, nice evening atmosphere. We loved the masaman like curry dishes, amongst others. That's the good part. It was pure bad luck when we went for breakfast one time and my husband got a very bad food poisoning. That's the bad part!

Western Service, Big Portions 200 Grm Beef Patty Burger Bbq You Can Count On Western Food Done Western Style
Street View, owned and managed by Aussie Darren and his Laotian wife serves some of the finest Bar-B-Que in SE Asia. Done in a western style and served in huge portions, the food is both filling and delicious with everything cooked fresh. Darren has concocted his own sauce and you will enjoy it immensely. The service is swift and friendly, the wifi is strong and the views are excellent. Do not miss a meal here when on Don Det.

You can see from the photos, that this has a lovely riverfront location, overlooking the popular & photogenic old bridge, with nice place to lounge around & watch the sunset.
However, the service was poor - young staff more interested in preening themselves than serving customers & my milkshake was frankly awful with lots of sugar syrup added, I took one sip & left it. No point in trying to explain why I didn't like it.
On that basis, no way were we going to choose this place for a meal.

The restaurant overlooks the Mekhong river to Mukhdahan in Thailand.
They have a wide variety of foods available. French, Western, Laotian, Fusion and the best Pizzas in Savannakhet. (Seafood thin crust is unreal!)
The only restaurant where I have been moved to compliment / thank the chef...ever!
For drinks, they have an extensive cocktail list including some great tasting non-alcoholic ones plus the usual beers, whiskeys, rum and other spirits.
Prices are very reasonable compared to a lot of the western restaurants here.
Service is very good.
