Having endured 20 years of struggle for independence from Indonesia, East Timor's coastal capital, Dili, has made remarkable strides toward reconstruction after innumerable damages and losses. Its former Portuguese colonial flavor can still be found in remaining villas and churches along the waterfront, as well as the 65-foot statue of Jesus overlooking the coast, reminiscent of Cristo Redentor in Rio Di Janeiro. The waterfront parks and white sand beaches are popular for diving and relaxing.

A beachside restaurant that serves Australian, African and Timorese dishes. The steamed Timorese fish cooked with spices was delicious. The service is good and it has a good wine list, a chilled glass of white port can be enjoyed as an aperitif. It is next to the excellent Beachside Hotel.

My favourite Indian/Nepali food in town. It is right above Cafe Letefoho, quiet and relaxing with a nice ocean view and breeze. This is a multi-cuisine restaurant and maybe a little confusing for first-time diners: Breakfast/lunch specials (international - bacon and eggs, sandwiches and health salads) are prepared by an Australian chef, whereas Indian/Nepali dishes and dinner are served by another chef, whom I have not had a chance to meet. I usually visit the restaurant in evenings for drinks, pakora (highly recommend), Asian salads and curries (also very good). The downside is it usually takes about an hour to get the food. The ocean view and a few drinks make the long wait part of the fun. I tried one of their lunch specials, which was a bowl of healthy salad with beansprouts and tempeh, along with banana smoothie, served super quickly in about 5 minutes. It was highly enjoyable.

Cafe Wesa'e

Healthy, delicious, sustainable lifestyle food.

This is a breakfast/lunch venue only. The Aussie owners are really investing in the local community by training staff and developing a vegetarian option in Dili. The food is tasty and with a daily changing special ($9) there is always something new to try. Whilst not a full time vegetarian it is a nice change to come to Wesa'e and try their offerings. It is not a big venue and at lunch is very popular, so if wanting to eat-in you may be disappointed when all the tables are taken. Absolutely worth a visit and prices are reasonable.Thank you so much for your review GOCFE! :)

We went here to watch the sunset and it certainly delivered on the view. Unfortunately a lot of the drinks on its extensive menu were not available...including simple items such as diet coke. The place is very large but there were very few people there when we visited. We also did not have food so I honestly cannot comment on that aspect. I would try it.......its location is lovely.

The setting and location was beautiful - right on the beachfront and lovely plants in the restaurant which was open to the sea (no doors or windows). However, the food let it down. Most of the vegetables were from a frozen packet which was most disappointing as there is an abundance of fresh veges in Dili. Prices average.
