Dharamsala Campgrounds | Places to Stay in Dharamsala

May 15, 2023 Franklyn Hardiman

Serenely spiritual Dharamsala is home to the largest Tibetan temple outside of Tibet. It’s known for its religious iconography and is the monastery of the Dalai Lama, who holds public lectures a few times a year. Once you’ve restored your spiritual energy, enjoy a picturesque stroll to Bhagsu Waterfall or climb the hill to Triund to bask in stunning views of the Himalayas.

Location wise difficult to reach down as well as up because of steep slopes if you dnt have 4x4 vehicle dont even think to drive down hil because next day you can't take vehicle uphill.I got stuck for four hours then got pulled up by the owners 4x4 pajero. Currently its under renovation or its a new property so shortage of staff ,clean rooms ,basic necessities are missing. No power backup in resort means if theres no electricity theres no heating mechanism available no chimney n all.thank god there were very few electricity cut during one day stay. Cottages dnt have much to offer just a heater and a double bed is available. Owner is a warm and helpful person but stilla lot of improvement is required.

Woodscation

Known as The heaven of Himalayas, The Woodscation campsite is located just 15 miles from Dharamshala and 18 miles from Kangra Airport, Ghaggal. Solitude. Views. Away from it all. Birds. Trees. Average service hut stunning place

Reviewed By Ila I

The views, the tents, the cabin, the solitude, the far-from-the-madding-crowds feel is outstanding. The food is overpriced. Boring. Cleanliness requires pulling up of socks. The boy and his mom who have been working here since years to cook and clean need training to provide higher quality service. They are friendly and try hard. The climb up to the camp is arduous if you aren’t fit. If you are fit, it’s an easy and scenic walk from the village. The manager doesn’t set the right expectation when you enquire about distance, amenities, meals etc at the time or booking. If he did you would have the right expectation. Overall definitely recommended for a comfortable 2 day stay in tents staring right into the Dhauladhar.

Snow Monk Camp, Kangra

Reviewed By anuj_suvarna

We stumbled upon Snow Monk Camp thru a random Internet search and after having visited the place between 21-25 Oct-19 we (family of 3) must confess it was a memorable visit. The drive from Pathankot Cantt Railway Station to the Base Camp site is about two and a half hours. As of Oct-19, the roads were good for the most part and rough in small patches closer to the Camp. That I guess was on account of post monsoon landslides. However, maintenance work was in progress as we drove back. The Camp is wonderfully located with a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. That you only get to see/hear a vehicle or two in an hour and that too at a far distance takes some getting used to. The campsite is well maintained with necessary amenities and yet blends with the rustic surroundings. The staff is incredible. Arvind, the overall in-charge fed us a constant stream of info when asked and was our time keeper. His personal interest in ensuring a smooth experience without being overbearing is commendable. Thank You Arvind for everything (from bed tea to acclimatisation walks to pep talk to late evening mini camp fires). Jeevan ensured we had a different meal everytime. Pity that we are light eaters because Jeevan always offered a spread to choose from. And then there was Ajay, Akshay and Madan (I think). They ported the rations to the camp site at Handi and helped set the tents up and provide for food and water. En route to Camp Handi, you can take a dip in the shallow and clear waters for a quick reboot to your system after trekking for about 2 hours. This is at a place about 20 min before the Handi. Its a must do if you don't mind an adrenaline boost when the cold water hits you. While a slight glitch meant we could not go up to Kareri Lake, our trek up to Handi and stay there more than made up for it. For those of you who squirm at the use of basic toilet facilities at Handi and above, pls consider the fact that you want to leave the place with the least negative impact. And if you need an authentic trekking and camping experience, rough it out a bit. The Snow Monk Camp team has possibly made the best arrangements that strike a balance between providing you an authentic trekking and camping experience and one that has minimal impact on the environment. High fives for the location, the people, the food and the arrangements. Cheers!!! Anuj, Nithya and Anaia

Camp Off Road

Ultimate Combination of Thrill & Pleasure.

Reviewed By RBagrodia

Some vacations are life time memorable and this is one of those.  I visited along with my family including 2 childrens.  Start from Traking, around 15-20 minutes traking which added more thrill in trip.  Location is Great and you will feel like at top of the world.  Services - No doubt Excellent, start from Welcome snacks with soft drinks, very personalized service by owner Mr. Sharad who is very nice and humble person. Food prepared at the location are great and complete homely feeling. Staff are very well cultured and eagerly waiting to provide services.  Stay in Tents - we stayed in Swiss Tents which are international standard very clean and most happening thing is attached with toilet & bathrooms along with dinning area which is really unbelievable.  In early morning you can find some beautiful birds, butterflies etc.  Others - Music, bonfire out door game's...... .  Suggestions for future travelers - Try to visit in Group for more enjoyment carry bare minimum luggage. Before booking tent understand the differences in Swiss tents and Alpine. If you have specific requirements inform in advance so they can arrange well in time. At the Last conclusions, must visit for a Change.

Himtrek Adventure Camps Mcleodganj

Worst campsite ever

Reviewed By pritibak

We were a group of three friends who stayed for six nights in the camp because the entire money was paid in advance, if we had a choice we would have left after the second night. There was loud music played through the night expect the first night when it was shut at 10.30pm, thereafter each night was nightmare of loud music, drunken singing, shouting, fighting, crying and what not... last night it went on till 4am. When we spoke to the management they said, the guests have come to enjoy themselves. Well, and what about the guests who have actually come for a trek and want to sleep in the night! After the 2nd day there was no water at the campsite 75% of the time. No hot water for bathing - the temp had dropped drastically because of rains. I was horrified when I overheard a debate between the staff cleaning a recently checked out about they should change the bedsheet or not! It was absolutely a nightmare. This place needs to be banned.
