The Bear Hotel

The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses.

Lovely food & lovely friendly staff

Went out for a family meal all food was excellent and all staff were helpful and friendly they couldn't do enough for us. We didn't feel rushed and they gave us enough time to chat and drink wine afterwards to enjoy the atmosphere. Will definitely be returning again very soon. Thank you.

Excellent customer service, cuisine and wine!!! Great Welsh hospitality! I’m definitely coming back!!!! I visited as part of a Trafalgar tour “be my guest” experience. I live in a place surrounded by vineyards in the USA but I absolutely love it here and the hospitality was lovely.

Great overnight stay

We stayed in room 1 and found it extremely comfortable. The bed was a good size and everything was extremely clean and tidy. Amenities were excellent - with a selection of tea, coffee and biscuits, an iron and ironing board, spare bedding and pleasant smelling toiletries in the bathroom which had a great power shower. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

Ideal base for visiting Vale of Glamorgan

We stayed for Six nights with our Welsh Springer Spaniel. Stone cottage. Compact but adequate space. Second bedroom with bunk beds. Used the wood burning stove but quite warm anyway. Everything worked. Space for car outside front door. Small, fenced, lawned back garden - ideal for letting the dog out. Friendly but unobtrusive hosts live on site. Waitrose Tesco etc a couple of miles away in Cowbridge. Victoria Pub within walking distance and dog friendly

Warren Mill Farm

Just what the doctor ordered

Visited here with my sister when she came down this weekend. We went on a whim off the back of a recommendation from a friend. This place is an absolute hidden gem, so pleased we decided to visit. A wide range of animals, beautiful scenes and kind, considerate staff. The animals are happy and very engaging but given enough space to breathe/ get away from guests. Price is unbeatable. Lovely food and drink from the cafe at a reasonable price which usually isn't the case on days out like this. Would 100% recommend, give it a go ??
