A magical place

Reviewed By speedbird451

This is really the most magical place. We visited at the end of our honeymoon and it was the perfect choice. The wetlands themselves are extraordinary, utterly peaceful, the animals plentiful and unbelievably tame and it’s both very, very beautiful and empty. You are practically alone in an area the size of Belgium. It’s no understatement to say that it feels like a corner of the Garden of Eden. The Posada could not have been more perfect. Wonderfully friendly and professional staff, a comfortable room, delicious food and a great guide. The price may at first seem expensive but it’s actually very good value for what you get. We did two EXCELLENT included activities every day. The long drive from Posadas down an unmade road (on our return we saw only two cars in two hours) may seem a challenge but it is definitely worth it, the price for such blissful peace.

Great value for money

Spent three days at Aguape Lodge with friends, facing the Ibera Wetlands in Corrientes Province, Argentina. If you like a great view of wetlands and family type service and food, this is the hosteria you want. Beautiful, good value for money, no thrills but thrilling employees, clean, simple and tasty food. Jose the guide will take you to see an amazing fauna including Yacaré, carpincho, deers and birds (my expert friend saw 108 species in two days, three of them pretty hard to find). In sum, don’t miss Ibera and Aguape is a recommended hostería.(Don’t miss these wood sculptures and help the local artists!)

Incredible place

Reviewed By Tukano

We took a pickup truck from Mercedes to Colonia Carlos Pellegrini. On a way there we saw a lot of capybaras, deer and storks. Landscapes were fantastic. Our room was just perfect. Big lawn and swimming pool and all were very good taken care of. They gave food to birds and it was just great to see so many different kind of birds and especially giant wood rail was so funny to watch it was runnig so fast. We stayed three nights and it did include meals( breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffe/tea and dinner) which were very good and four guided tours. Mornings were walking tours and afternoons we had boat rides. Saw also beautiful sunset. Our guide was very good and friendly Raul. We saw a lot of cabybaras, caimans, deers, wonderful birds and butterflies. All the staff were friendly and helpful and a big thak you for all. On a day we left we were able to keep the room until 3pm which was very kind. We would like to go back there hopefully one day.

Rancho de Los Esteros

An amazing highlight of Argentina

Reviewed By VancouverReporter

On our second trip to Argentina (this time with my parents and 4 year old daughter) we were looking for someplace different to visit. Ibera was appealing to us because we love wildlife and our travel agent Isabel recommended it. It is definitely off the beaten path and takes a little time and energy to get there (we took the overnight bus from BsAs and then arranged a driver to pick us up for the drive to the wetlands) but it is so worth it. We decided to book our stay at Rancho de los Esteros...their prices seemed the most reasonable amongst the few places we were considering, and we liked the fact it only had four rooms. We are so glad we ended up there. This place is an absolute gem. Where do I start? The rooms are gorgeous - spacious, beautiful handcrafted furniture, very comfortable. There are only four rooms and for most of our stay we were the only guests. The food is excellent, especially the barbecue lunch we had one day with our hosts Maita and Julio and Julio's son. And most importantly the excursions we had to the wetlands were incredible. The boat dock is right on the property so very convenient. The guides were very knowledgeable and patient. We did a horseback riding trip as well. Even my mom, who had never ridden a horse before, enjoyed herself, after getting a lot of reassurance from our guides! Overall I can't recommend this place enough. We loved that it only had 4 rooms so even if it had been full, it would still have that intimate boutique feel. Maita and Julio and all the staff are warm, friendly and really make you feel at home. This place is amazing!!!! We arranged for a private car/driver to take us to Iguazu from there, which I recommend to make the best use of your time. We stopped enroute at the Mission, which made for a good break and lunch stop. It's a long day but eliminates traveling back to BsAs.

Posada Ypa Sapukai

Not what I expected.

Reviewed By HappyAussieGirl

It took me a while to decide whether to go to Esteros Del Ibera, mainly because of the high cost of getting there and accommodation. But in the end I decided to go as was I was hoping this could be a ‘luxurious’ part of my holiday, and was really looking forward to relax over there. I chose Ypa Sapukai for two main reasons. Firstly, that it was advertised in my Lonely Planet guide as having wireless internet, as I intended to plan later part of my holiday and book accommodation. Secondly, that the owner was very responsive and spoke good English while dealing with me via email plus the place was advertised as ‘owner-run’. How disappointing it was to discover upon arrival, there was no internet of any kind!! The closest place was about 15-20 minute walk to somebody’s lounge room, where you can try to use a very old computer between breaks of kids playing games on it. I was not patient enough to wait there until they finish or come back in a few hours…. Especially, the speed of the internet connection in this isolated house was very dubious to me. As to the owner running the place and speaking English (which can be important for a sole traveller without any knowledge of Spanish), she simply was not there!! Claudia – the owner runs the place over the phone from wherever she lives, guessing not too close since does not make the effort to be there while guests are visiting. I could not figure out whether there was any person present at night onsite when I was there. There was a cook and a waitress, plus a tour / boat guide Emilio, who effectively acted as the host. Really nice people, trying to help but we could not really communicate much as I don’t speak Spanish and they spoke no word of English even basic like breakfast and dinner, etc. Normally, I would not care that much as I would be prepared to deal with language difficulties, but in this case I was still recovering from a bad gastro from a few days back and needed somebody with a reasonable English to communicate in case I need some assistance. I was very stressed the second night when I was the only guest, not having a clue if I am the only one in the house (all other guests left) or where to find help in case I need it?? Who do I call or where can I call?? Where is anyone? The house itself has a nice ambiance with pleasant, a bit wild gardens around. Good to sit and relax. Forget about the pool. It’s just a big bath, not well kept. Use it if you are desperate. The same with lounge chairs in the gardens. Simply they were too dirty to use it for me. The dining / lounge rooms were pleasant to stay and browse through various books and magazines about this area (in Spanish only). But my guest room was disappointing again, especially for the price I paid! I would not give this room more than 2.5 stars. Very basic, but reasonably clean. However, walls needed fresh paint badly. Bed was ok, I guess, as I don’t remember anything bad about it. Food was very average. Not a dining, home made experience I expected. The lack of the host / owner available on site was a real issue for me, as I was usually stying during my holiday in Argentina at B&B with a personalised touch and care, which was none here. The owner was not too impressed when I asked to help out to find out a bus timetable from Mercedes, so I could plan my ongoing trip. It felt like it was too much hassle for her as it was Sunday and she wanted to spend time with her family (which she pretty much told me straight). Fortunately for me, she must have felt bad about it as she called back earlier than promised with some news. Not the customer service I expected… I am thankful to her though, that she actually arranged for a cheaper transport in and out for me, since I was the only passenger. For the high price you pay I would not recommend this place. Probably I would prefer to spend even a bit more money and stay in another nearby place which a few appear to have much higher standards than this, from reviews I read before.

Highly recommend! Comfortable and relaxing lodge!

Reviewed By Leif S

Highly recommend staying at Heulla! The hosts are very relaxed, friendly and ensure you have an excellent time! The rooms are gorgeous - you get a country lodge experience in the room and in the dining hall. The cook could be working for a Michelin star restaurant the dinner and breakfasts were excellent- very worth the price for the dinner (breakfast is included). Nice clean pool which was nice to have as we visited in the summer, but also a large fireplace that must be nice in the winter. The park has great wildlife and the tours aren't crowded or busy. Loved it!

5 stars not enough for Hugo and his wife!

Reviewed By charmaloo88

We stayed for 4 nights in Pellegrini and Hugo was a star from the start. He picked us up from Posadas and we all endured a gruelling 6 hours drive on “muy difficile” roads. Despite the language barrier, we were able to have basic conversations and organise a bus out of town with Hugo’s wife. We’re both vegetarian and Hugo helped us on our first night when we were tired from the journey, and then recommended food restaurants to us from there on. WiFi wasn’t great, but the ample wildlife of Ibera totally made up for it! We cannot thank this family enough for making our trip so memorable!

Clean, basic but bad value

Reviewed By Alibobo

Rooms are basic but clean, and staff are friendly (although limited English). We arrived at 10:30pm after 6+hrs driving and the manager took us straight in to his office to pay, which was not the best welcome. Toilet seat and shower head in our room were broken, but they offered to move us to another room the following day. Wifi did not work and communal meals were basic. For breakfast we were provided bread and butter, I asked if I could have some eggs and they provided a small portion of scrambled eggs. Pool was not useable while we were there. We chose to checkout after the first night and moved to Nande Reta. When compared to Nande Reta, Posada Tupasy is very poor value. Also be careful of the exchange rate, the official rate is 1 USD to 5.1 peso, but the unofficial is 1 to 8 .
