Worst hotel I have ever stayed at on a business trip.

Reviewed By ryanlwi

Let me start off by saying that I travel extensively for work and personal so I am very aware of cultural differences and other issues hinge I n other countries. I’ve been to six countries in the past six months. So this review takes that into account. Security- I will start here because this is apparently the major reason why so many people stay here. It is very close to several of the embassy’s. Definitely tons of security. Some are armed with AK-47s others just had batons. I have also been told that there are security/snipers on the roof I personally didn’t see them but that doesn’t mean they’re not there. When entering or exiting the hotel there is a gate that you have to come through to enter or leave that has a secure area where they check vehicles. Also you go through a metal detector when you come in the front door of the hotel into the lobby and they have a scanner like at the airport where they check your bag. . I will say that the process and protocols are not always followed. Sometimes they check the vehicle sometimes they don’t Sometimes they check underneath the vehicle, around it, glovebox but a lot of times they don’t. All in all though they seem to have multiple security checkpoints and you do have to present some type of identification. There are security guard by the pool by the gym and across the property and by back gate that you can walk to the market to. I assume this is the reason this place is so popular. Service- I hate when people lump everyone together when they’re giving reviews. So, I want to specifically call out or I should say thank the servers the waitresses even the cleaning crew for the rooms They are all very polite and hardworking. The management not so much. They don’t really seem to care about customer service and don’t really solve any issues any don’t seem to care. Definitely an air about them. just poor poor management. Internet For this to be a supposedly five star hotel I’ve never seen Internet service this bad. Multiple times per day Internet is completely down and then when it is up it is extremely slow and very very hard to do even light amount of work. I.e. check your email and getting on websites. If you have to get onto a VPN like I do to get back to my home servers. It’s nearly impossible. Complained multiple times with no resolution. Internet is just terrible here. Pool- The pool here is amazing. It is a Olympic size pool with lanes and they also have a smaller pool for the kids. It is huge and great pool. Negative, I realize we’re in Africa as I mentioned previously I’ve been to Africa, Afghanistan, Iraq so I understand where I am at but the flies are just unbearable. For a hotel of this “stature” they should have some way of being able to manage the local insects . If you plan to lounge poolside just be prepared to have several dozen flies sitting on you or swarming about you at any given time. And don’t even try to have lunch by the pool because your entire meal will be swarmed. Dining/Food- Again for this to be a five-star hotel, the menu has very very limited options. There are definitely a few good things on the menu like the spaghetti but other things definitely left you wanting. I would just expect a more worldly menu for the customers and clientele they are trying to cater to. Gym- This was probably one of the most disappointing things of the trip. They have a complete building just for the gym. However when you get there the equipment, and this is not an exaggeration, is from the 1970s. The weights are old iron weights that I haven’t seen in 20+ years anywhere else. They are mismatched so you may have a 20 pound dumbbell but not the other one. And everything is in a single room even though they have other rooms available. So, that would be disconcerting even in a pre-Covid world but in a Covid world that’s even worse. There is a full size tennis court. Actually two of them so that’s nice. Room- as I mentioned below maybe 20 years ago this hotel is really nice. The rooms are dated. It has that old hotel carpet that places used to use along time ago. The furniture is dated. This may sound odd but the bathroom tub is so tall that you almost can’t get in and out of it and I’m not a short person. Overall just a very dated they do have small 40 inch flatscreen TVs they are all in French the channels though. This was my first time to Burkina Faso. So, I don’t know if this hotel is indicative of the rest but if I come back I will definitely be looking for another option because this hotel overall is one of the worst I’ve ever stayed at from a business perspective. And it’s not cheap. The sad part about all of it is the hotel has all kinds of potential there’s tons of acreage that they could utilize. they have individual cottages that I did not go inside of but they looked really nice so they have the space and the potential to do so much more with this hotel. Maybe 20 years ago it was top-of-the-line but not anymore

Together with 3 other colleagues we stayed here for three nights. The start was a bit unfortunate. I had a room with a defect lock and the first night there were lots of mosquitoes in the room due to a torn mosquitoe netting in the bathroom. Also the airco was not capable to bring the temp down. Next morning I asked for a new room ant that request was granted. The other two nights were much better. The staff is very friendly, the setting is great. It feels like a little oasis it the middle of the desert. It is situated at a five minutes drive from the airport. Fortunaty not too noisy, because there are a few airmovements.
