Disappointed local

Reviewed By Darcytt

My wife & I visited for lunch for our anniversary having had good feedback from a couple of people who had also visited for lunch. We were seated right by the entrance to the restaurant which meant ever time the main doors opened we were in a draft and a guest was stood right by the doors holding them open! The lunch menu had no starters but ordered the garlic bread as a starter which came with the main course? which was beef burger. We ordered a glass of Preseco and a Bacardi & orange, the Prosecco came in the smallest glass I have seen and was astounded that it was £9 and the Bacardi was £10 + the orange juice. We felt the food was average the ambiance of the restaurant was very clinical in black and gold not very inviting. The thing that really threw me was that there was a 10% service charge added to the bill which was certainly not average and having been to a well known steak house recently had two steaks, starters and a sweet plus drinks for less than here. Being local to the hotel we thought it might be nice to walk down in the summer for drinks plan- air but certainly not at these prices, sorry Chesterton Hotel .

An absolutely disappointing experience.

Reviewed By alexandruv511

An absolutely disappointing experience. I arrived at the hotel around 13.00 where I made a reservation for myself and my fiancée, where I could benefit from the services of the gym, spa plus a meal included.  We were not told that the meal must be taken before 13.30!!! The moment we said we didn't want to eat before going to the gym or spa, we were treated in an absolutely disgusting way.  We really felt like impostors!  I asked for a solution because it is a hotel, we can find a way, and I had already paid for the services. The answer was short, "is not possible" I asked for a refound, and to give up their services, the same answer "is not possible, I'm not gonna give you a refund" After several attempts to find a solution we were able to receive a meal from which we had a £ 15 discount. With a little goodwill from the staff the scene would have been avoided and we would have spent the day in an absolutely wonderful way.  Of course, after all the absolutely disappointing experience, the day was compromised and we could not enjoy it. Another aspect, my fiancée reserved for the manicure gel, believing that the services of a hotel are good.  When she saw how it that person works, she did not want to finish because it was not the services he expected, she had to pay anyway, for absolutely nothing. Very disappointed customers service!!!! Never again!

Arrived Friday 20th after a long journey. no one on reception, there was a phone number to ring but no one answered. Finally after 20 minutes someone showed up and we got our room key, a family room with 3 beds. Room smelt of damp. Air con did not work, windows did not open. Toilet dirty and no shower gel or shampoo in dispenser. No wardrobes but a rail right over the pillows of one of the beds. No facilities at all.

Nice place ... edgy management

Reviewed By Neill H

From entry to exit the (apparent) manager obviously had issues which he freely worked out on our party. His lack of professionalism overshadowed a good meal... seemed to misunderstand the concept of friendly service. Also would have been nice to have seen any notice that cash would not be acceptable prior to ordering, not sure that is allowable to be honest.

Love the staff, especially Bryony who served us breakfast, she was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was okay, could of done with being hotter, funnily, we were warned to not touch the plates as they were hot, lol. Overall the whole experience was so good we will definitely be going to stay there again. The bed was very comfortable, can't complain about the sleep quality either, slept really well.

Beautiful place

Reviewed By Kerry K

My partner used this hotel a few years ago on a regular basis for work. We decided to stay there as we were going to Silverstone the following morning which is 25 minutes away. When we arrived the owner greeted us, he’s so friendly and helpful and nothing is to much trouble for him. The hotel is very old worldly but spotlessly clean. It has beautiful sunny gardens that you can relax in and within walking distance to the town centre. I would definitely stay here again.

Ridiculous parking charge!

Reviewed By johnnyboyyork

Second stay here. Much improved cleanliness of corridors & stairwells this time. Room was quiet, clean and comfortable and breakfast was just OK. A few things for the hotel to consider: - why bother equipping rooms with SMART TVs and then disabling all the SMART functions like screen mirroring? - since my first stay, the hotel has introduced a parking charge. This seems absolutely ridiculous given that it is in a semi rural location well away from Bicester Village and local amenities, all of which offer free parking anyway! When challenged, the lame excuse was that the property had faced problems with adjacent building site contractors who had used the hotel’s car park all day making it difficult for guests to park. Absolute rubbish! If that was the case, why not set the new ANPR system to fine non residents only and just send penalty notices to unauthorised vehicles. Unless the hotel addresses these points I would not return again. There are other (more keenly priced) budget options just across the road which offer similar standards of accommodation and free parking.

Never have I ever had to clean the bathroom myself!!

Reviewed By Maz L

The receptionist said 3 cleaners had attempted to clean the bathroom, that it was just stains! I could not justify using the shower for myself and my 2 year old so I bought bathroom cleaner and sponges. As you can see, it was not just stains! **I couldn't not upload the photos, I kept getting an error message** The flooring is laminate, which was dusty and dirty. When I used a wipe on it, it left a dirty handprint on the wipe! When I left, I was told by the man on receiption that he would speak with the owner when he returned from his holiday, he suggested a partial refund for the state of the bathroom. It has been 10 days now and I have had no contact from anyone. The hotel does not have a restaurant attached but there is a lovely looking square a 5 minute drive up the road with places to eat, and a lovely looking hotel on the corner that I wish I had stayed in instead.

Awful

Reviewed By D6747AQkellyp

Planned a birthday trip to Bicester village and booked this hotel. We have stayed in the past with no real issues (over 3 years ago) The bar was grubby with locals hogging the bar area making it difficult to order drinks. Constantly hearing the staff swearing behind the bar gave us very poor first impressions. Anyway the bed was really uncomfortable, one of the drawers had a left over childs cup and toothpaste in it so hadn't been checked, cob webs on the ceiling, then there was the bathroom ? the toilet seat was hanging off, there were (what can only be described as bogeys) on the shower tiles and the plug to the shower was black with dust and hair build up it was disgusting (i have pictures !). The kettle had to be moved to be plugged in, only 2 hand towels and the fridge had mould in it. When we called the number for a towel we were told its not an emergency then a lady turned up with her child with food all round his mouth to hand us a towel. We couldn't even attempt to order breakfast we just complained and left. Luckily we did not pay for the room that was priced at £120 it was not even worth being free as it was disgusting ruined the birthday weekend.
