Inhabited since the 11th-century, what is now Kigali has been the home of Twas, Tutsis and Hutus. The city sits on a series of verdant ridges and lush valleys, and has a Muslim Quarter and a bustling market. Rwanda's capital is the site of battles that left over a million, mostly Tutsi and moderate Hutus, dead. Kigali Memorial Centre is a permanent memorial to 1994's Genocide, built on a mass grave where 250,000 are buried. Kigali City Tour Bus offers an excellent introduction to this now safe, friendly city.

Although I have only given an 'average' rating, I eat quite regularly at Havana. It is well situated next to the Novotel hotel at the back of a petrol station on a main road, and can be relied upon to show the main football matches. The menu is nothing special, but everything is edible and the pizzas are a speciality. Ambiance can be a bit gloomy for some and yes, they could smarten up the toilets a bit, but then this is not the place to go for a romantic date. Staff can be hit-and-miss; friendly enough if they recognise you, but otherwise as slow as tortoises.
Went with a group of 18 people. Service was slow, and they did not charge us for all of our meals (we corrected that with the meanager). The steaks were very average and were not cooked according to the people's request on most plates, usually too raw to eat. The soups and sandwiches were said to be very good. We ahd a sweet and sour rice dish that was good. Desserts were very average. The view is beautiful and breezy. Not expensive at all.

Dolce is found on a quiet corner in Kigali. Even as the weekend ended the tables were full. The cool outdoor patio/deck was a great place to enjoy a few beers and brochettes. The latter consist of beef, goat, fish and chicken ... the goat was great along with a grilled plantain. The pizza oven was in full operation and wafting good smells. Steak is available. Attentive servers. Fully stocked bar.

This place impressed me with diversity of its service. They have multiple sitting arrangements: bar, longue, terrace and garden for family and kids. It has a magnificent view of Kigali city especially in night. Prices are comparatively cheaper and location is plus point with spacious parking.

I love the Casa Keza brunch--a coffee, smoothie and plate for 6,000 RWF (current price). It's a relaxing space, really nice manager and staff, and delicious food. The coffee is really good, and after a number of visits, the food always has consistent quality. A great place for a relaxing weekend morning.

We discovered this place just down the street from our guest house (The Nest - also highly recommended) in an otherwise quiet and safe residential neighborhood. They have many BBQ meat choices and wood fired pizza which was very good (thin crust). The beef on the brochette I ordered was very tough and stringy - but maybe that is normal? All the usual beer (Skol, Tuska, Heineken) choices for Rwanda and soda at fair prices. The place gets busy and has music on weekend late nights. There is both outdoor and semi-indoor seating with a large TV usually showing soccer.Would return again. Note there is no WiFi - a negative for some people (-1 star). There is a parking lot with security.
