My husband and I ate here this evening as a friend had recommended it and bought us a meal as birthday treat. We havenât been to finchingfield for a while but found it easily and parked without any problem. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating and recommended good choices for me as I have a fish allergy. We shared a starter and I had a chicken bacon and mushroom ravioli which was delicious. My husband had Franks seafood stew house speciality which he tells me was wonderful. Ice cream and coffee for pud followed. It was a lovely evening in a relaxed low key restaurant which we will definitely visit again. Very highly recommend this place. Give it a go :-) Fab review thank you stephie.. This was our first visit to the Gate. Was plesantly surprised by the decor as I thought it was a lot nicer than the pictures on website. The food was excellent, and very generous portions. There was a varied choice. The service was efficient and staff pleasant. I am looking forward to returning.

Went for an early mid week Dinner, all dishes we ordered were delicious, staff friendly & helpful. 47 has always been my go to restaurant, until now. We went for a Friday night romantic dinner and were hugely disappointed. We were situated in the corner of the newly extended conservatory, which was extremely loud due to the wooden floor & larger parties. There were flies buzzing around and crawling up the walls along with spiders & cobwebs. The food was âokâ nothing special considering the price. The steak my partner ordered wasnât cooked to how he asked & was just thrown on a plate, the potatoes & vegetables which come out in a shared dish were fine but not enough for two people. We asked for the bill three times, as the different waitresses that were looking after our table were running around like headless chickens. I think if you were to book for a quiet romantic meal, request to be seated in the main restaurant where there is a more welcoming feel. I believe this has dramatically fallen in all areas & wont be returning any time soon.
