Hostaria del Calvino

We walked 1km northwest from our Hotel Le Pageot to Restaurant Moderno, but finding it closed, searched for another. 100 meters north, we discovered a suitable 12 Euro Menu del Giorno next to a customer filled patio. Inside at the bar, the 6 tables were also filled, but 2 men departed and we were happy to sit, watching 4 waitresses scurrying about delivering meals while the owner helped and tallied payments. She came over to interpret the Italian menu(in French) and we chose; Pasta e fagioli, Filetto de gallinella alla calvino, apple pie, and a half litre of house rosado. The food was served hot, well presented, tasted delicious, and even though the facility was swamped with locals, we were never neglected. I used the clean restroom before walking downstairs to see the cava that extended way in the back, and discovered the pizza chef. I then climbed to the upstairs to see the large dining room, discovering the kitchen(and all the different desserts available that day.)The locals know about this place, and we were lucky to experience this memorable meal that totaled a reasonable 29 Euros.

Off main street fine cuisine. We took soup, stake and veil fried stake. Absolutely best fine french cuisine. We offered a local wine which was exactly what I needed. Very nice and friendly, pleasant atmosphere accompanied by a very quiet background music. Most recommended

Arrived here on the first evening of our holiday after a somewhat fraught journey. Therefore such a pleasure to receive such a warm, friendly, relaxing welcome at Sapori, located right across the street from our B&B, Le Reve Charmant.Service was attentive and unfussy. The standard and quality of the food was excellent. The primi pasta was top quality, with the pistachio crème brulee dessert a first and to die for!Reasonably priced and highly recommended.

Had a delightful lunch here yesterday. The food was very good as was the service. You need to make a reservation as the place is popular & busy. The menu is in three languages & the waiters speak multiple languages if you do not speak Italian. We'd return here the next time in Aosta. Worth a visit for lunch.

Don t expect much about the food. It is convenient if you have to cross Aosta by car as you can easily park (free parking). Having eaten there a couple of times I would consider as mediocre compared to other restaurants you could find in the region.

The restaurant has just opened about ONE month ago.The type of cuisine is typically regional from the Naples area.We know very well the type of regional food being served at this place and can, therefore say that the quality is excellent. We had TWO problems though, the service and ... the bill! The service was very slow, although the place was less than half full.We had to wait about 15 minutes before the waiter came to collect our order. We then had to wait another 20 minutes before the first dishes were served. We were four at the table and ordered different dishes, but specifically requested to be served in a certain sequence, to ensure that everyone at the table had a plate served at the same time as the others.Unfortunately, after waiting for almost 30 minutes, the first dishes started to be served, but not in the sequence requested. Result is that one of us had nothing to eat and had to wait 45 minutes before his plate was served, while the others had already eaten their second course. They just completely forgot to prepare one of the dishes and put the blame on the chef. The worse was yet to come.Since we were invited by my son and his wife, I did not have a chance to check the bill before it was paid.On our way out, I enquired about the total paid, and found that it was excessive for what we ordered. We then checked the bill, and found out that they had charged four times the wine consumed (2 liters instead of half a litter at 10 €uro per liter). We just could not accept to be cheated so spectacularly! After complaining, we were refunded the 15 € charged in excess and left. However, after leaving the place, we realized that the wine charged in excess was not the only item wrongly charged, which confirmed our opinion that we were cheated:Coffee: we were 4 at the table and only two of us had a coffee, but we were charged for FIVE coffees!.Drinks: the owner came with the drinks at the end of the meal and specifically stated that they were offered. In fact ... they were charged! Even more disgusting was the cost at which they were charged: 18 €uros for 2 "limoncello" and 2 "amaro" which are never charged for more than 2/2.50 € each!Consider that in Italy, it is not seldom that the owner offers the drinks at the end of the meal. In fact it can happen (and it has happed to us several times) that the owner leaves the bottle for people to serve themselves. In total we were charged 36 €uros too much, although we recovered finally 15. Lesson of the day: never pay without checking the bill first. If you love the type of cuisine served at this restaurant and have enough time to wait for the slow service, you will find the place excellent, but, at any rate, pay attention at each line of the bill to check its accuracy, BEFORE you pay! ,

This was a delight. If you speak Italian as badly as I do, then the owner compensates with excellent English and makes you feel at home.3 of us had different starters..solo good.Main plates were equally delightful. Our hard to please son declared the pasta the best he has ever had.Wonderful, and very filling. And then, stomachs very full, came dessert. 3 different ones tested and demolished. Again, excellent.A huge thank you for an experience we will enjoy for a long time.

La Cantina Del Viandante

We were suggested ordering fish for all courses (yes, fish: even if this restaurant is on the Valle d'Aosta mountains it offers fish) but both were surprisingly "anonymous".I ordered pasta with prawns but it had just one of those shellfishes on no more fish. Taste was not bad but it seems more a tomato pasta than what I ordered. After this I ordered a mixed fishes grill and also in this case it was not so good: tuna fish was ok even if a little bit too dried and poor in taste but there was also a small part of octopus that was terrible hard and with a bad taste and a cuttlefish that was even worse.I decided to choose fish meals under the recommendation of the owner and of the cook that told me that fish is their specialty (they both come from Sicily) but it was a wrong choice. The only excellent thing was the sicilian white vine. Finally also price was not so a positive aspect: it is expensive for a lunch with food I dislike. In the case food was ok, price is in line with mid-pricing restaurants. However, don't consider it as a "trattoria" or a pizzeria!Dear customer, we are sorry our food was not in line with your expectations. We do not pretend to be a high level "trattoria" or "pizzeria", we are just two retired person who do this job for love and passion and, even if we try to do our best, it may happens we can't. That means that we have still a lot to improve. It it happens, we would be glad to offer you a dinner, just to ask you sorry to have betrayed the confidence you made on us.
