There were 8 of us - 6 adults+2 teenagers. We ordered 2 teppanyaki sets. The food was ok, but the sets were exorbitant (RMB1,028) in Xi'an standard (given that we had a most delicious dinner at Cháimén Shannán Jiā Cài 柴門陜南家菜, just 5 minutes walk from the hotel, for only RMB400 the following night.)But my complaint is not the food, not even the price, but the poor service/management.There were 2 teppanyaki tables and we were seated in front of them. The whole point of teppanyaki tables is that you can watch how the chef does the cooking and it is hot when it's served. But to our great surprise, half way through our dinner, we discovered that the food would not be cooked at the teppanyaki tables in front of us, but at another place somewhere at the back! We had never heard of anything more ridiculous:1. We were not told beforehand or at any time this was the case, we had to discover it ourselves! The reason we found out was because my son ordered a separate order of teppanyaki beef and it was just served to him all of a sudden before we had our food. That was when we found out that it was cooked somewhere else.2. We asked the lady captain and she explained that because there was only 1 chef, so he had to cook at another teppanyaki table at the back.3. We do not understand how a teppanyaki restaurant with 2 teppanyaki tables could have only 1 teppanyaki chef!4. If she had told us beforehand, we probably would have ordered something else or gone to a different restaurant.5. I do not blame the lady captain. She was very polite. But I do blame the management. This is poor management and poor staff training. If I pay super expansive prices, I expect super good services to match!! This was a complete failure.Dear Lamcks,Greeting from The Westin Xian! Thanks for your big support to Mai. First of all, I really want to say thanks for your kindly suggestion, that really help us a lot. In the future, we will make some adjustment according to your comment, hope we can keep improve ourselves always. We do welcome you and wish you all the best.WestinFor a better youThe Westin Xian

Since we were staying at the hotel where the restaurant is located, we thought we would give it a try. First of all, the restaurant is very expensive. We have eaten in many Japanese restaurants in U.S.,this one is even more expensive than some of them. Second, since I had been having trouble with sleep, I asked for non-caffeinated tea, like herbal tea. The waitress informed me that there was no caffeine in any kind of tea. I was surprised to hear her say that, and told her naturally there was caffeine in green tea and black tea. She then called her manager over, and the manager told me there was no caffeine in any kind of tea as well (because it's tea, not coffee). When I told her that's not true, she then told me they didn't have what I was looking for. Third, when the sushi arrived, there was no wasabi between the rice and the pieces of fish. Without it, the sushi didn't taste right. Normally, a knowledgeable sushi chef will put the appropriate amount of wasabi in different type of sushi based on the type of fish he prepares: less for salmon, more for yellowtail. I was surprised to discover the fact the chef was not preparing the sushi correctly. I asked the waitress about it, she came back after taking to the chef, telling me the reason they don't do that is because they cater to a very international clientele, the Europeans can't handle the intensity of wasabi, so they take it out from all the sushi pieces. After paying way overpriced meal, we left the restaurant disappointed.

My husband, daughter and I found this wonderful Japanese restaurant as we walked around the inner part of Xian. It was tucked down the side of a big building and we chose it as it had a menu outside and it looked very appealing.Once inside, up on the first floor, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table near the window looking out on the street. The selection was very impressive and we were pleased with our choices of a miso soup, lotus root and honey, sweet and sour pork, snow peas and water chestnuts, tempura vegetables and rice. All the food was lovely and fresh and beautifully presented and the service was impeccable.
