Modern Peruvian cuisine focused on local produce

This restaurant forms part of the hotel Wyndham Costa del Sol, Cajamarca. We didn't stay at the hotel but we had two meals (lunch and dinner) in the restaurant. It is perfectly situated on the corner of the Plaza de Armas with huge windows so that you can sit and watch the world go by. The food was very good and staff were friendly and attentive. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

Es un local simpÃ¡tico, aunque sin un estilo en particular. Probamos el cuy frito, que estuvo muy bueno, aunque el ajiaco de papas pudo estar mejor. TambiÃ©n pedimos el lomo saltado flambeado en pisco, que estuvo muy rico, aunque la cebolla un tanto crudita, al menos a mÃ me agrada un poco mÃ¡s cocida. Tienen un personal muy atento (jÃ³venes muy amables y bien presentados) y una carta variada. Excelente ubicaciÃ³n (a media cuadra de la plaza de armas) y buenos precios.

I had the pleasure of eating with my friends a number of times at Vicunna at Hotel Tartar. The food is top notch and a rare find in Cajamarca. I am very health conscious, and it can be hard to find a place is Cajamarca that does not use MSG. Their dishes are low in grease content and are mostly fish dishes. They are delicious, but in that way that leaves you feeling good after eating instead of guilty. The restaurant atmosphere is also classy. There is even a little bar. It's inside a colonial hotel, Hotel Tartar which can be somewhat hard to find, but it's by the airport at La Entrada de Zarco Campestre. Taxi drivers will sometimes try to rip you off if you are a gringa like me though so be careful. Ask the price first.
