Teddington is a suburban area lying west south-west of London, England. Historically in Middlesex, it has been part of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames since 1965. Teddington is on the north bank of the Thames, just after the start of a long meander, between Hampton Wick and Strawberry Hill, Twickenham. Mostly residential, it stretches from the Thames to Bushy Park with a long high street reaching down to pubs, restaurants, leisure premises, fields and fitness clubs by the riverside, having a pedestrian suspension bridge over the lowest non-tidal lock on the Thames, Teddington Lock. Teddington's centre is mid-rise urban development.

I've been to this place a lot over the years, with friends and family, especially as it has always had a strong veggie bias. I think it started out wholly vegetarian, but Twickenham wasn't ready for that. I admit I haven't been for a few months but I took a veggie friend there tonight for a quick supper. It was dreadful. I've put 2 stars out of respect for previous meals. I had to apologise to my friend for bringing him here under false pretenses. Soggy popadoms and standard cheap chutneys from a jar. None of that chopped fresh onion and mint. Then a lurid looking dahl, mostly a rather metallic, tomato sauce and a few split peas in it. No spices or real flavour to speak of. The vegetable curry seemed to be in the same sauce with a few peas, maybe a bit of cauliflower and a couple of bits of potato. Nothing nice about it at all. The 4 little puris looked like those 1960 party snack cheese footballs. Filled with some yoghurt and a sweet, sticky jam. Seemed more like the pudding. Looked bought in. Staff fairly off hand. No one asked how our meal was or took any interest, so guys, now you know. Maybe this was a one off, but it looked like something had fundamentally changed from what used to be a little bit of excellence. Decor has changed. Some tacky photos, carvings and fairy lights.I fear it's changed hands. No sign of the engaging staff of old. Sorry, won't be back unless I hear positive reports very soon. You've lost a customer.

The food at Chowka is extraordinary. The menu is based on Goa region so different from your bog-standard curryhouse (great as they are.) The meals are freshly prepared, the flavours really melded together wonderfully and the prawns incredibly tender and delicious. Thank you, Chowka. Itâs my pleasure to highly recommend you.

Your staff is amazing and not sure magic you have done on them - all were doing the job as if it was their party and not just a job that they were doing - amazing motivated team that you have built. Visited on rainy Saturday afternoon. Had some lovely dishes, tasty and good portions. Pau Bhaji, Kema Naan, Chicken Wings, Chilli Mogo and Samosa Chaat. The mogo was overcooked, the marinade was lovely though. Service was not bad, we didnât get asked for top up drinks or water. Could be improved on. The restaurant felt cold, could have done with heating cranked up as the place was only a third full. Would have given it 4/5 but the mogo (pretty easy to get right, service and cold restaurant were my reasons for 3). Weâd visit again so it canât be all bad.

The restaurant is large and has a very nice interior. The staff were so welcoming and very professional. A real effort was made. There were some complementary starter snacks which were a nice touch. I found the rest of the food to be underwhelming. The main dish was just like a very average medium curry, despite it being a vindaloo. The flavour wasn't great at all. Maybe it was a bad night as there are many other good reviews here.

It's a very small place and it would be best to book. We were welcomed and drinks and poppadums arrived quickly. We did then wait a while for our actual food, but the owner/manager apologised saying they were exceptionally busy as lots of takeaway orders had come at once. I was inclined to feel that customers in the actual restaurant should take precedence, but I suppose Indian restaurants must rely heavily on takeaways to keep going. When our food arrived it was absolutely excellent. I had never had palak pakora chaat, which was deepfried spinach leaves in batter, very crunchy. This would go soggy in a takeaway BTW. The tandoori lamb chops were fantastic, thick, juicy and good value. Onion bahji sizzling and crunchy. We again had an apology for the delay; all the food is freshly cooked to order. We will certainly go here again. There were three or four groups of family with children, and everybody was treated individually. It's more for local residents than a large group of rugby fans who want to mop up their lager fast.

Very warm and pleasant experience. The food is amazing. Especially as it caters for veg/vegan.They gave us an extra dish to try and also the pricing was great.
