Best Indian food near Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Reviews on Indian food in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Though Mumbai can feel chaotic and crowded, there are peaceful moments to be found here. Nibble a paper cone of bhelpuri while you stroll the sands of Chowpatty Beach. Then, take a short walk to Mani Bhavan, where Mahatma Gandhi once lived, strategized, and was ultimately arrested. The markets are spirited places to bargain for spices or souvenirs. Take a guided tour of Dharavi – made famous by "Slumdog Millionaire" – for an eye-opening glimpse into what Mumbai life is like for nearly a million people.

With the rapidly growing environmental issues around the globe we as major metro city need to shift focus on sustainable use of resources around us. Glad to see how the F&B industry is migrating towards the concept of Ecotel. Orchid Hotel (Ecotel) in Vile Parle (Mumbai) is a real life example of running Ecotel concept keeping in mind environmental improvements rather degradation. For entrepreneurs, tourist, business meetings and conferences Orchid hotel serves for an ideal place to reside at it offers amongst all the hotel amenities. When it comes to stay customers would surely look for good around them and orchid hotel encompasses a wide variety of restaurants serving both Indian and International cuisines along with one round the clock running coffee shop for caffeine lovers. During my recent visit to Orchid Hotel I chose to go for Mostly Grills restaurant situated on the seventh floor providing an exquisite rooftop view of the city. Mostly grills offers both Indian & Continental cuisine on the table….Let’s dig into the dishes we explored…Food:1> Trio Pepper & Cheddar Cigar Roll – Loved the presentation of the dish with Cigar Rolls placed inside shot glass filled with Sweet Chilly Sauce. Rolls were crispy from outside a bit cheesy from inside but as mentioned in the menu stuffed bell pepper was missing in it. Well there is always room of improvement…2> Char Grilled Balsamic Garlic Prawns – WOW!! Huge Kings prawns is always a seafood lover’s spoilt choice. Balsamic here refers to vinegar drizzled from top for the preparation. Mildly charred prawns tossed in garlic and butter surely fed our souls. A bit greedy all of them I ate myself ….Highly recommended!!!3> Panko Cheese Burst Chicken – Panko refers to the flaky and crunchy bread coating stuffed with chicken, cheese and topped with melted cheese also French fries and lemon butter sauce served on the sides. 4> Mexican Sizzle Chicken – Well this is one of the sizzlers which didn’t had any rice on the hot bed. Instead there was chunks of chicken tossed in tomato salsa and fries to accompany. The moment it was kept in front of us all we could hear was sizzling sound and whispering our minds eat me before I’m cold…..5> Norwegian Salmon Steak – In the mains we thought to give a twist to our palate this time. High on protein and vitamins. Perfectly grilled salmon served with steamed potatoes and veggies. Taste wise chef did wonders keeping the way it has to be not so spicy not so bland. Couldn’t think of any other way to end our feast.6> Tiramisu – Kudos to the presentation!!! No dinner is complete without a sinful dessert isn’t it?? Classic Italian dessert made up of mascarpone custard cream layered with Kahlua liquor and dusted with cocoa.Drinks:1> Mumbai Masala – Mix of Kokam Syrup, Lime Juice and topped with Soda. Refreshing and soothing2> Grapple – Mix of grapes and apple juice muddled with flavour of mint3> Orchid Special – Mix of basil muddled with pineapple juice.Ambience – Would recommend to visit Mostly grills when the sky is clear to enjoy the mesmerising view along with airplanes taking on/off at the runaway on one side and some picturesque selfies near the pool. Seating is quite comfortable for large groups and couples. At one corner you can find the bar and opposite to it walking a few steps takes you to the chef’s kitchen. Evening gets nostalgic with live music performances. Also there is big screen projecting live sports.Service – Service by them is quick and impeccable. Our attendant Mr. Amit was humble and full of energy. Food – 5/5Drinks – 4/5Service – 5/5Ambience – 5/5Thank you Orchid Hotel – Mostly Grills for a scrumptious and memorable evening. ONE LINE TAGLINE – Enchanting Curries n more!Hotel Sahara Star – Symbolic with exemplary hospitality, oozing ambience and outstanding food. Our recent trip to their restaurant ‘Namak’ was surely a milestone moment for offering upscale Indian food. Interiors:An inspiring Indian space, full of textures, and with an exotic sight that bespoke the rich, cultural heritage of India. Namak wins brownie points for offering the ideal proposal to test an authentic experience around the Indian Haute cuisine. It is not just the décor that sets Namak apart. The food is extremely rich, with a sauce laden Lucknowi, Awadi menu being the prime focus. Flavours rule high even if in subtle doses. Here’s what we tried and tested:Starters:Tandoori jhinga kalimirch – Perfect marination. One aspect that could have been done better was to remove the chargrilled portions before serving. The king-size prawns could have been cooked a bit more.Murgh malai kebab – Chunky soft pieces of chicken, almost creamy yet low on spices. Went well with the array of chutneys provided with the shakkar para.Gosht awadi seekh – Succulent, less on the juicy bit but surely wholesome with a good dose of saffron and spearmint.Main Course: Tariwali macchi – Although a tomato gravy base, the tanginess is not sharp which went in favour of the rich textures. The degi mirch and tinge of mustard added an unusual burst on flavour front.Ambade ka murgh – Roasted chicken with ambade (Gongura) leaves in thick gravy was something new which one must try.Gosht banjara – Low on the spice element but soft, succulent mutton pieces blended well with the special Andhra ingredients.Thikhri dal makhni – Very unlike the usual dal makhni you are served. Yet it had the punch and slurp-it-up effect. Desserts:Malai kulfi - perfectGulab jamun – delish! The mocktails were lilting perfect. Chef Darshan personally ensured to enquire about our taste levels. Server Lakshman was service personified and always available to help out.Word of caution – portion sizes served are quite large. Order effectively since the meal is quite rich and heavy. Dear Esteemed Guest,Greetings from Hotel Sahara Star!!We thank you for choosing Namak - Our Signature Indian Restaurant as your preferred meal destination in Mumbai and our endeavor is to provide all our guests a memorable experience. We are pleased to receive such inspiring words from you which have further encouraged our entire team to provide enhanced services to all our esteemed guests. We once again take this opportunity to thank you for your valuable feedback and look forward to welcome you to Sahara Star in the near future.Warm Regards & Sahara Pranam,Amit Ganpuley,Food and Beverage Manager

Once you enter Nawaab saheb,it is all about a royal ambience and a royal experience. The seating is very comfortable. The entire setup is extremely beautiful. The table is well-set and the lights complement the ambience and set-up. When it comes to service, they are attentive and guide you well with their menu.We visited during their 'Tawa and Tandoor' fest. They had three sets of menu and we opted for 'Royal Menu'. We started with beverages and I tired 'Spicy Guava Mocktail'.It was perfectly made mocktail with right amount of spice that complemented well with the guava base.I also had a cranberry based drink which was extremely refreshing. In appetizers, they served us a platter which contained paneer starter, veg seekh kebab and galouti kebab. The paneer was soft and fresh and had a sweet spicy marinade which tasted delicious. The seekh kebab were spicy kebab full of vegetables. The galouti kebabs were served in a presentable way and were quite juicy. Then there were a range of non-veg starters that they served from a Tawa. There were a few chicken tandoor dishes that had Lucknowi and Mughlai touch. The tawa also had sea-food.They had prawns stuffed with chese, then there was fried fish and also lobster. In main course,we had Chicken gravy,Dal makhni and Paneer Gravy with naans. We also tried Lamb Biryani. The maincourse was equally delicious. They had perfect dessert set up and had a dessert buffet. It was heaven for the sweet-tooths.They had all kind of desserts placed there from kaju katli to gulab jamun to Akrod ka Halwa. It was a pleasant experience visiting this place.Ambience: 4.5/5Service: 4/5Food: 4/5

Manuhaar- The Taste of Tradition

Reviewed By oindreelaghosh

Manuhaar is the Rajasthani and Gujarati themed restaurant within the very beautiful Sahara Star. The place is done up with paintings depicting the Rajasthani and the Gujarati culture. The staff is oh-so polite and truly exude the mehmaan nawaazi that the Rajasthanis and the Gujaratis are known for.I had their Gujarati thaali that has like, a million items! They first serve chaas and a sweet drink, along with sweet items like halwa, true to Gujarati sweets-first style! Then comes dhokla, mini samosas, daal bati churma and and many more. I was already feeling a bit full when they loaded my thaali with rotis, a lot of sabzis, daal, a bit of khichdi. There were a bowl full if khichiya papad, salad, ghee, achaars and so many condiments. I was so full that I couldn't even look at them anymore. And the staff kept asking if we needed anything else. They really made me feel like I came to some relative's place where they just wouldn't stop feeding more food! That's the kind of homely hospitality that makes Manuhaar stand out from the rest!I absolutely enjoyed each and every item on the thaali, and couldn't find any negative anywhere. The chef came to meet me during my dinner and he was so humble in his demeanor.Overall, it was an absolutely fantastic experience, and to think that the thaali is priced at Rs 1550, I think it is a steal deal.
