La Table de Andree

Really nice place for enjoying French gastronomy and a range of signature cuisine.

30/4We three British middle aged guys were exploring this part of Mexico in early May, staying at apartment Casa Alhondiga 2 (not listed on TA but in Bkg dot com) We met an American ex pat living the life next door. He recommended this restaurant for a evening meal on the Monday evening. He actually took us all the way to show us it and the restaurant (Saliva?) with a terrace opposite. At 20:40 we studied LTdA’s menu in the doorway and as usual a waitress came out to talk us through it. As we had had lots of Mexican food already the possibility of having a fondu and tarte flambé/flammenkuchen at a good price. As pescatarians we were also happy. Our neighbour left us to our own devices and in we went (with the waiters outside opposite looking very disappointed at the loss of trade). The restaurant inside was quite spacious (tables spaced well apart) with a business group of six already dining. We decided to try upstairs but it was empty and hotter so back down we descended down to take a table by the group. We were presented with the menus but we had already made our minds up apart from the drinks, which we chose a Mexican white Puerta Nueva Sauvignon Blanc 2017 at mex$265 (a French wine at the same price was on the wine list but unavailable but we prefer to drink local wine anyway). The wine came with an ice bucket and we were offered to taste then each poured with small amounts, all very professional. We chose our dishes and explained we were pescatarian and just wanted to concentrate on Alsatian cuisine as it was their speciality. The wine was good (given the price) and quite spicy, reminding me of a mild Gewürztraminer. We took our one drinking it. A jug of tap (?) water appeared and our tumblers half filled with it, then the jug was taken away (odd). The chef suddenly appeared to ask us if we needed help and we chatted a bit finding out he was from Lorraine. I was unaware that he was the boss, Thierry, at that time (I had not had time to research on TA as whisked away by our neighbour).A small plate of amuse bouche arrived which was prunes (soaked in alcohol) wrapped in a slice of carrot with a cherry tomato on a cocktail stick. A welcome tasty little morsel! The fondu (200/£8) arrived in good time and was absolutely delicious as a large bowl of lightly toasted bread cubes was just enough to cope with the three cheese and (same) wine mix with a tiny bit of truffle oil (I asked the accommodating and friendly waitress about the recipe afterwards as she offered more croutons). We were very happy as it was just enough for the three of us (the menu said two but could be for three). Then came the amazing tartes! The chef obviously knew how to roll them thin, dress them and turn the oven up to 11! My Salmon (80) was generous and crispy, my friends’ Tradi (75) and Selva (mushroom 75) were equally good and we shared them between us, sipping the wine accordingly! Delicious! We had finished the food and wine we were offered more wine but we declined but (a rare thing) asked for the menus for deserts as they were so enticing and well priced. I chose the ice cream (45) and my friend the chocolate tarte (85). Unfortunately there was no more cheese cake (which I spotted one of the group having and is my favourite as it should not be too sweet for my problematic teeth). The waitress (Miriam we discovered) seemed a little disappointed that we did not want another bottle of wine but that would have stretched our budget somewhat! The deserts came and were very well presented, both dressed with a tasty ginger jus. The chocolate tarte had a scoop (but smaller) of the same vanilla ice cream I had. We shared our delights amongst us. The other group had left earlier so we were all alone. The chef and waitress started to close up (it was 22:00) but did not hurry us out (any extra wine would have not been appreciated if we were hurried out). The chef once again (after many pop outs) asked us if we were happy and (as the pressure was off) we chatted more. Apparently he had a restaurant at the top of the hill but moved into town three years ago. We finished the deserts and ordered the bill. I paid by the mex$860/£34.40 by card at the till and we left a 100 tip.As we left Thierry saw us out and we left very happy and dated to explore the city at night (avoiding the climbing alleys as advised as too dangerous! Stick to the main thoroughfares he told us). I bade Miriam farewell too!On our safe return back to our apartment looked up the restaurant on TA and found it was highly rated and well esteemed and started being reviewed as a new restaurant in 2016. I also looked it up on Maps dot Me to find it still up the hill and not on Posito so I added it on MdM.

The window tables have a fantastic view of Jarsín de la Union, and you can listen to the bands playing below. They do Italian food well - the pastas and meats were good. Having taco starters doesn't really sit all that well with an Italian main, but they did taste good.
