It was my birthday so we went here from our boat in Reading. I am sorry but it was not as good as it was cracked up to be. Service actually was excellent with a smile but the food let it down. Why only small glasses of water? i tried Tom Yum, yes I know this is a chinese restaurant but it is a yardstick for me and this was poor in flavour even if the content was good. Spare ribs were tasteless and deep fried squid was rubbery and bland. Peking duck was dry as was the crispy lamb variant. Mee Goreng was tasteless and the Thai red curry was vaguely curry but not Thai. Vietnames lamb was the same as the crispy lamb ie dry but sizzling prawn with ginger and spring onion in wine sauce was good even if my wife found it too salty but she liked the crispy shredded beef which I found rock hard. The impression is that the food had been precooked a while ago and kept warm which dried everything out and lacked the freshness of flavour of a good cantonese restaurant. Sorry but we wont be going back.

Such a shame that this local Chinese restaurant has now just become a takeaway as back in the day it was excellent and Winnersh could do with some decent restaurants. As a takeaway itâs much as expected, perfectly ok but nothing special. Price wise itâs average and the food if you collect is hot and they throw in complimentary prawn crackers. Theyâre a little chaotic at times with one lady taking and handing out orders so would suggest you order early at weekends especially if looking to have it delivered as Iâm told waiting times can be over an hour.

When we first tried this place about three years ago it immediately became our favourite local Chinese restaurant, and we have eaten here at least a couple of times a month ever since. The food is excellent and the service is exemplary. The mock (vegetarian) "duck" with pancakes is my personal favourite, but everything I've tried (i.e. all the veggie options on the menu) has been good. When I spent a month doing "veganuary" they were helpful in pointing out what was dairy-free as well as vegetarian too. Not sure why it's taken so long to get round to writing a review, other than perhaps not wanting to encourage people to go in case it makes getting a table more difficult! Not the cheapest in the area but worth it.
