We visited to have lunch for a friends birthday, eating from the £6 lunch menu. We like the bar and have been a few times for food. On this occasion the food was nice and in itself was good value, however we were surprised to see we had been charged an additional £1 for each pot of sauce we asked for, which amounted to less than a tablespoon of sauce. Considering how cheap one bottle of sauce is and the fact I have not been to a restaurant that charges for sauce for years, this seems very wrong and meant that actually we paid more than £6 per lunch. If they had told us we would not have had sauce at all, so I feel the staff have been very sneaky and taken advantage of us and possibly other customers.

We had let the hotel know when we booked on-line that this was a celebratory lunch as requested on the booking page, but on arrival nobody appeared to be aware of this. The staff were slow taking drinks and food orders even though there were few other guests in the restaurant. As we were in no hurry to eat this was not a problem, but it may effect others. The food arrived 50 mins from arrival at the restaurant and was excellent. The choice from the menu was fairly limited but adequate. The staff were friendly and we and our four guests enjoyed the evening

Nice old pub/restaurant. Good varied menu. Starters & desserts well portioned although main (pork & Chorizo £19) was small and really needed a side. A sharing starter, 2 mains & sharing dessert (good idea) with 1 pint of beer £60.Nice friendly service.Only down side would be the ‘Effing & Blinding’ which was very audible from the kitchen/bar staff. Not nice. Oh, probably best to avoid sitting near a door in winter.

Standard food (although the fish did taste and look like it came frozen from the local supermarket) but highly priced. For what looks like a high class place the food was disappointing and the service wasn't much better (including the waiter laughing when we were actually complaining about the food). It will definitely not be somewhere we visit when we are in the area next. You can get much better food elsewhere for less. Very disappointing experience.Thankyou for your review.. i would like to take this opportunity to apologise that we fell short of your expectations on this occasion.it is only with feedback, good or bad, that we can improve and increase our offering to our valued guests.I would like to gain some more information on your experience here at The Oxen Bar & Grill, as it leaves me with some questions - please email me directly on [email protected], so we can discuss further.Kindest regards and looking forward to hearing from you.Thomas KentFood & Beverage Manager
