We have eaten here a good few times as we are members of the gym, and my Husband a member of the Golf club. The only criticism I hav ever had is when there is an event and I consider that they cannot cater for the masses i.e. Christmas events, etc. However, the food served in the bar area is good quality, good value and the waiting staff are very attentive.

This used to be an excellent place to eat, especially Sunday lunch. Since change of management the pub has gone downhill. Tried Sunday lunch with a friend on 14. April 2013. There was no choice - just offered turkey which came with cauliflower cheese, white cabbage, mashed carrot and swede, 4 very small roast potatoes and gravy; all of which arrived over half an hour after ordering and was served up rather unattractively on a plate. The meat was cold, the cauliflower cheese tasted revolting, not sure what the mash was - certainly didn't look or taste like carrot & swede. Anyway, we sent the food back and were given a refund. Won't be going back. As I say, what has happened to what was once a very good pub?

Stopped in for a drink whilst in Witham and ended up ordering a sunday roast whilst we were there. Really good prices (was around £6) and you can choose what vegetables/meat you'd like. Service was slow but food tasted lovely & homecooked, and just what you want on a sunday. Very traditional pub.

Staff go above and beyond tweaking menu option slightly where possible.Very good size portions, reasonably priced and cooked well, all for only a pound or so more than your big standard budget pub chains.Would encourage people to support a family ran pub for a change, I think you'd be surprised.

Pre-booked a table for 4 , had a few drinks while waiting for our food to be prepared, atmosphere was pleasant although sound system was tooooo loud hold a private conversation, that being the purpose of choosing “VALERO LOUNGE”Our food was presented and tasted great with a good selection of side orders between us, the only criticism is that by the time our food had traveled from the kitchen area to our table it was at the point of being toooooo “COLD” to eat because it had been served up on FREEZING COLD PLATES, we ate our meals really quickly and yes they were well presented and tasted good, we would have stayed for desert but decided to walk across the road to the ice cream parlour and have hot waffles to heat our stomach’s up from eating the cold main meals....Hi Stevie, i'm sorry to hear you were unhappy with the ambiance within our site and the food being on the chilly side. I wish you had given us the feedback while you were still here as both of these points could have been rectified very easily. We hope to see you again and please feel free to let us now if you find anything unsatisfactory on your visit so we can amend it for you.

This was our first visit and it was really good. Mother’s Day meant we had to wait a little while for our table but it was worth it. Roasts were enormous with veg served separately and the Beef Bourguinon was fabulous so tender and tasty. I felt really full, but managed to squeeze in a baguette bread pudding with cranberries and creamy custard, also the apple pie looked really good again with creamy custard. The young man who looked after us couldn’t do enough for us and altogether it was a great experience. As I said first visit but not the last.Hello Mo H! Thank you for finding time to write this review. Mother’s Day was extremely busy for us and we tried our best to make our customers happy. We are glad you would like to visit our restaurant again and we are looking forward to cooking for you!
