Very unfriendly and unwelcoming when we arrived. Asked to sit at the dog friendly area. Staff pointed over there which we then asked which part cause obviously its a big area. The staff then said “well it’s just here, we don’t reserve tables for dogs”. Which is not what we asked but okay. We then continued to order and the staff came back to tell me I couldn’t have my 6 month old puppy on the seat. Which is understandable but the way she spoke to us and the fact I was there few months back and he was allowed. If I had him on the floor he would just wonder about and annoy customer which would be worse. So we decided to leave and she actually asked us what was wrong? Which then we told her. To our surprise she was actually the supervisor. The manager then came out and she was even worse. We come here often which then manager replied “Well I haven’t seen you here before”. Before we left she had then said “Good luck in finding a dog friendly restaurant”. We were so shocked about her comment. They are many dog friendly restaurants/cafes I take my puppy regularly and we chose to come here and have an awful experience. You should NOT call yourself a dog friendly restaurant and I recommend staff training.Gwen L, it's upsetting to hear that you did not receive the top-notch service we strive to provide. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will use your comments to refine our efforts to ensure this issue does not happen again.Team Fettykil

We had drinks in the Bruce because they offered real ale on tap whereas the other three pubs we found didn't. We drank there on both nights in the village and the bar was cosy and friendly. We also had dinner. It was fine. Nothing special, but it was fine. You don't need to eat in the Bruce if you stay in Falkland, but it was as good as the other places we ate, and, of course, it has REAL ALE on tap. Always a bonus.

Took two friends with us to revisit the Plough, which I hadn't visited for years. It was better than I remembered it and well worth the detour around back roads to reach it. Super friendly welcome, extensive (but not too expensive) menu from which we all chose different dishes and none of us was disappointed. Their cups of soup of the day were big and hot and excellent value for money.

Very cosy, with a welcoming atmosphere and tables filled with families, enjoying its very good menu. Excellent service. I thoroughly recommend it- and the warm Scottish extras gave it the added edge! Really been looking forward to our first meal at the Cycle since under new management so popped in yesterday to check out the menu. Delighted to see my husband's favourite mac cheese and plenty of GF options for me. Called in today to eat and discovered the menu on a Sunday does not have a mac cheese! Disappointed to be told it's been removed for the Sunday roast. When asked if it was possible to have the mac cheese, as it's on the kid's menu, was told there was no mac cheese and only veggie options were a salad (who wants a salad on a cold winters day?) or a nut roast (can't eat nuts). Such a shame we ended up eating elsewhere as we are really keen to support our local pub.
