Went for the first time with some friends that new this place and I have to say that the dinner went much more than what I expected, I had a superb and delicious plate of various types of fish together with Prosecco local wine. Not to mention the courtesy and service by the owner wife ! Tipical outstanding Italian restaurant of a small city of Bassano del Grappa at the foothills of the Mountains.

Osteria Trinita

I don't give 5's. A five suggests a "died and gone to heaven" meal. But tonight I'm doing it. This place is nothing pretentious, nor is it white-table-cloth, nor dripping with atmosphere. It's just very very good. Solid meals served with sincerity by people who know what they're doing with fine ingredients. The pasta (Maccheroni) was perfect in every way: light cream sauce with a hint of cheese, topped with very thinly sliced smoked pork belly. A "fish fry" was a medley of lightly tempura'd anchovy, squid, shrimp, prawns, cuttlefish, and scallops, served with creamy polenta. A braised beef stew loaded with porcini mushrooms was nicely balanced. The price is modest and the value for Euro is very good. Nice wine list featuring their own label of Cabernet. Trinita is a bit outside of Bassano, but an easy and pleasant walk from the old bridge. It's a must-do while visiting here.

Trattoria al Caneseo da Amedeo

Reviewed By Peter_B_Simons - Portland, Australia

I have enjoyed this style of food before many years ago as home cooked meal at the parents of an Italian friend. Simple food, well prepared with love and care.
The menu has exceptional variety and the quality is 10 out of 10 as is the service. The taste of the food does not overpower the pasta and the Parma Ham is cut fresh and thin. Good bread, some red wine and fresh grilled vegetables complement the dishes selected.
Michelle had the Rabbit and I had the Pork chop for mains, both were excellent.
Now it is cosy with smaller tables but it is like eating with the local families; to the point I felt like asking have I taken some one else's table as every one seemed so comfortable around us and it felt like eating here was a regular outing for locals.
Now it is not an in your face place on the Piazza but down a side street. If we were staying would have been back again.
I have marked as cheap eats as the price for the quality and service was exceptional.

We have visited Melograno twice now, once for a superb multi course white asparagus tasting meal the other a regular dinner. Both were superb, the menu is varied but every course well prepared and presented. Prices are good (the asparagus tasting of too many courses to remember plus an excellent quality local wine was a really amazing eur 40 per head). Friendly and attentive staff, highly recommended.

I lived in Italy as a student and am a fully paid-up member of the Italy Appreciation Society but I'm not blind to its faults. Friends and acquaintances who run businesses say it's so difficult to run a small business these days and make money - given all the taxes they pay to keep the fat-cat politicians in Rome and Brussels living in the manner to which they've become accustomed. Something's gonna give: and it's the quality. We ate and drank here and, rather embarrassingly, we can actually cook better than this at home in London...That's not good. And this was a 'recommendation' from the agriturismo we were staying in. The food just does not 'sing'...The rest of Bassano looks no better. We took off to Marostica the next night and fared better but a few days later we were eating in a consistently superior way and much cheaper in Dalmatia. That's rather depressing but speaks volumes of the parlous state the EU has left the PIGS in and the strains are definitely showing....

My wife and I have been to Mirasole a couple of times and both have been great experiences. There is a good range of traditional Italian dishes, the service is friendly and you have that wonderful feeling of being genuinely welcome. Prices are really low for what you get - we went for Valentine's day and for a multi course meal (antipasto, 2 primi, 2 secondi, 2 dolci + wine + water + coffee + digestivo) the price was under EUR 30 a head which for me is possibly the best value I've ever experienced! If you're in the area and you want traditional Italian cuisine, you can't do much better.

Enoiteca Pomo d'Oro

Once in a while, you get very lucky and find a gem. This was my lucky day! Trying to find a restaurant within walking distance from our bed and breakfast, I stumbled upon this jewel. It is a combination store, wine cantina and very small restaurant (about 6 tables)but they serve up food fit for a king! Not only that, we sat in their cantinetta ( small wine cellar) that only accomodated one table. Simone, the owner, was our waiter and he made sure that our evening was very special. First, he brought us the tenderest and lightest fried pumpkin flowers. Then a seafood antipasto with octopus and a zucchini sauce (incredible). Homemade bread with carrots and pumpkin seeds as well as other delightful breads. Our entree was a risotto with porcini and a special cheese from the area. For dessert, profriteroles made in house with chocolate and whipped cream. OMG! This little place is on the outskirts of Bassano del Grappa in Romano d'Ezzelino. If you are ever in Bassano del Grappa, make it your business to go there! Sorry, but some of the pictures were of half eaten food...we got excited and ate before thinking about the pictures but rest assured, they were beautifully presented when they came out. If you are a wine connoisseur, you will love this place as well.
