It should be so much better

This is arguably one of the loveliest properties in town: a gorgeous Spanish casona with a fountain and two internal courtyards. The decor is nice and charming as it’s the opposite of corporate and pretentious, and the food is also very good, but WiFi and hot water are serious issues - which is why this is not a 3 star rating. Rooms are big and the location is v good.

A total disapointment

While the location and overall infrastructure was OK, this hotel doesn't function as such. It could be a great site as the it might have been the case in the past but today, it lacks care. Additionally, the nice staff requires training urgently. BTW, I've just known that DM is a hostel for professors. In fact, DM is the acronym of (Derrama Magisterial), which means that professors of Peru get fair deals in terms of fares. For the rest of us, not only we'll be overcharged but we'll be unfortunately surprised by the lack of attention to the basic details such a beautiful infrastructure requires. Hope they change the directives because the astonishing beauty of Ayacucho requires investment and other approach.

Rough Around the Edges

The hotel is becoming run down. Maintenance certainly is not an important issue for the owner(s). Bathroom taps are old and worn - we had 3 rooms and all were the same, so no one can say it is just in one room. No hot water at night. Bed - well, one of the cheaper Peruvian mattresses - what does that tell you about the quality of sleep? Floor boards loose in one of the rooms creating a signifcant tripping hazard - been there for a long time and no one bothers to fix it. No elevator - tough for Elders having to walk up and down stairs all the time and try carrying a 23 Kg suitcase up to the second floor. Breakfast is a continental breakfast - which they do not tell you what is included until you ask for something that is not included. Best I got was a scrambled egg, not even made properly and when I asked for some ham and cheeze, I got one slice of ham and one slice of cheeze. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap.. Oh, and don't ask for a mixed tea made with a few fresh herbs, as that is not included and they hung me me for an additional 21 Soles for that one. I got to give them the restaurant food is good, but had two very snarly servers and 2 good ones. They are a bit out of whack with their organization and delivery of the food - some we had to ask for a second time and wait for a long time. Would I stay there again? I do not have a strong uge to - I think I will find somewhere else. I expected more and now have a dull mind about the place. Not worth the hype or the price. An old, not kept up hotel that is attempting to rest and make it on its historic laurels...

Such a fantastic little city. This was an easily located place to stay. The common areas were impressive and roomy. Rooms were a bit tight but as a solo traveler, I had everything I needed. Always had hot water for showers. Rooms were clean, with thick blankets on the bed. Would certainly stay again.

Informal e irresponsables.

NO RECOMENDADO.

Very Comfortable 2 Star Hotel!

Reviewed By Michael D

The hotel is located a little more than 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas and it is an uphill walk. The room was very clean, quiet, comfortable and had all the amenities of a 2 star hotel. It is 4 floor hotel without an elevator. Upon arrival the suitcase had to be lugged up to the 3rd floor...being the first day the altitude had an affect. The personnel of the hotel were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good...there were several options of juice, coffee, teas, entrees and the local bread (chapla) was provided with butter and marmalade. The breakfast employees were very attentive and friendly.

All You Need in Ayacucho

After years of wanting to get to Ayacucho, we finally made it for a trip in late April 2022. Not a lot of options for hotels in Ayacucho, but we chose Altipacha for the good ratings and better marks for service than other basic-looking properties. We're glad we did! The rooms themselves are quite nice and were much more modern than expected. Due to low hotel occupancy, the breakfast was a la carte but had tons of options. Staff dealing went out of their way to help us have a good stay (especially compared to many other hotels in Andean cities). Our restaurant server, Minsef?, was especially attentive and helpful. What a great experience -- we would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for the best option in Ayacucho.

The hotel has issues with its water pipes. My room had a foul smell coming from the bathroom pipes that was not solved by the cleaning staff. It was REALLY bad, every day. I didnt have water in the shower on my last day. However, the rooms are clean and beds comfortable. The breakfast is basic but good enough. The hotel is quiet.

Lovely hostel full of charms

Reviewed By Marie T

We stayed 4 nights at Hostal Tres Mascaras, in a triple room with private bathroom. The room was simple but very spacious and clean, with excellent mattresses and a great hot shower. The room was cleaned each day and towels and soap were replaced daily too. The staff was very friendly and helpful. What makes this hostel stand out is the magnificent garden full of flowers and old charm, as well as the super friendly pets (a cat, two dogs and two parrots). We couldn't have wished for a better place to stay, especially as it is extremely conveniently located only two blocks from the main square. If I am to come back to Ayacucho I will certainly stay here again.
