The restaurant has a beautiful view of the Santo Doming church. The menu is mostly pizzas and pastas with a small section of local meat and rice dishes. The setting was quite pleasant - quiet with a nice view.
I asked if the "Pasta Puttaneza" was vegetarian. To clarify I explicitly asked if it had "carne o tocino o pollo..." just to cover my bases. Well - it has salami in it. It's South America...this happens. But when I asked "what is this?" holding a piece of the salami I was told it was tomato. Fail. Then the waitress left and came back with a written list of ingredients. I asked, "Isn't salami a type of carne?" Perhaps I used the incorrect word (tipo?) but she just kept trying to deny it. In the end it was a struggle to get the dish replaced. Even then they wouldn't let me simply place a new order but insisted I could only have Pesto Pasta.
The pesto is flavorless. The pasta is overcooked. And since I was in the mood for a tomato dish, I would have ordered pizza if I had been correctly informed of the ingredients in the pasta dish.
I'm not really complaining about the vegetarian mix up but the way it was handled. Even if you are not vegetarian I wouldn't recommend this place because they are unable to tell you what is in a dish, when they make a mistake you have to fight them to correct it and even then they won't let you select your dish but they force you to accept something you didn't really want.

We had a "menu del día" for lunch which was 11 soles and we chose the soup to start and the puca picante (see photo) as the main dish. The food was good but not memorable. We sat on an inner terrance and the restaurant is in an inner courtyard. It was peaceful away from the street. We were satisfied but there wasn't anything about our lunch experience that would result in a return visit. Service was fine.

My sister, myself and a friend stopped in yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had a lamb steak with fries, beans and rice for 19 soles. The sauce was delicious and I added a little table ají to make it even better. My companions enjoyed a ceviche and a trout. I tried the ceviche and will definitely order it on a future visit. Ended our meal with a hot muña tea.

Dined twice with the family in a colonial house filled with antiques. It is not restored to perfection, but it is a good effort. It is more a charming popular restaurant for locals, than a sophisticated place. Lots of locals dine there.
The chicken wonderful. Most of the grease had melted while roasting. The skin crunchy. Really tasty. Even tried some cold the next morning and was impressed.
Very good pisco (had a chilcano = pisco, lemon and ginger soda).
The fries and the salad were OK. The two sauces were great.
Paid S/.15 soles for a quarter with fries and salad. Not cheap, in line with the chains.
Would go back anytime.

Great coffee and for once, real cakes like we have in our countries. One of the rare pasteleria that seems to know what they're doing. Try the bavarois cake! Highly recommended for desert.

An international restaurant with a great view at the main square. You get food and drinks at a high international standard, but locally skewed, e.g. Alpaca burger and great fresh fruit juices. The interior is charming, waiters are properly skilled and quick and the view over the main square and at the Cathedral is enjoyable. What more can one expect from a remote place like Ayacucho? Oh, maybe that they serve sparkling and not only still water.

I asked the tourist office for good local food. They recommended this place which is in one of the barrios of Ayacucho about 15 minute walk from the center. The neighborhood you walk though is very run down and maybe not safe at night. When I arrived, there was a band blasting music for a small party. The waitress and I were grimacing to understand each other. She never even brought me a menu. She only asked what drink I wanted. A few minutes later, she brought me a plate with cuy (guinea pig). It was my first time trying Guinea pig and probably my last. It taste like chicken. The problem is there is no meat on the little suckers. A person could starve to death. The rest of the plate was potato and some other goop which I couldn't figure out. Meal cost NS 53

Ayacucho is like a more relaxed version of Cuzco and this restaurant overlooking the main square is only full of locals. The view is wonderful, looking out across the square, and the food and service are great. We had the quinoa encrusted trout which was delicious (Peruvian version to British Fish & Chips!) and excellent value for money.

My sis and I came in for lunch and I ordered a menu for 11 soles. A minestrone soup came first. It had a green broth, root vegetables, a little meat (beef, I think) and pasta. My main course was spaghetti with meatballs. I didn't enjoy this as much as the soup, but it was still good - the pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce had good flavor. They also brought hot cancha (like salty corn nuts) and a delicious, hot ají to the table. The beverage of roasted cebada was really perfect as the waiter offered and followed through to make it only slightly sweet. For dessert my sis got fresh fruit and I chose the bread pudding. Both were good for the price. Loved the "treehouse" style environment.

We ordered our drinks and food at the same time. The limonade arrived within a few minutes. About 10 minutes later the waiter came back to say that they didn't have any alpaca...because it was Wednesday. So we each ordered trout prepared different ways. Another 10 minutes passed and the waiter returned to tell us that they only had one trout. We decided not to stay but wanted to pay for the limonade. He never came with the check so we left the 8 soles on the table and told someone on our way out the door. They were out of these food items at 12:30 in the afternoon! By the way...this restaurant was recommended both in TripAdvisor and by a tour operator.
