Harbourmaster Hotel

The Harbourmaster on the quayside in Aberaeron offers you comfort in the most idyllic of locations. This listed landmark building reopened in June 2002 after extensive renovations. We have 13 individually-designed rooms in three historic buildings - all with harbour views. In 2008 the warehouse was opened, providing a further 4 rooms. A harbour facing suite with panoramic views, two west facing sea view terrace rooms and a town view room suitable for disabled use. (lift access to these new rooms) The Restaurant and new warehouse bar specialises in fresh local produce. Come and stay for a relaxing time and watch the tides wash in and out and the sun set over the bay!

Four star food, three star hotel

Reviewed By CreatureComforts40

Stayed for two nights over the Jubilee weekend. The only room left was Madona in the main building - up 44 winding steps which wasn’t a problem but we would’ve appreciated the offer of help with our luggage. Bedroom was spacious in terms of floor plan but extremely limited headroom meant my 6ft husband was constantly stooping. Beautiful views over the harbour one way and the sea the other. Good quality teabags but the coffee was instant. Fresh milk provided on the ground floor (down 44 stairs and back up again) as were home cooked biscuits. So why only 3 stars? Well we found the bed uncomfortable and both woke up with back ache each morning. Also we had to move the bed more or less into the centre of the room to be able to access the side next to the sloping roof. Again not a problem, just a less than ideal layout. Issue with connecting to the Wi-Fi was quickly rectified - thank you. And now for the food! Lovely breakfasts with unusual options. Can thoroughly recommend the HB beans, egg, avocado and halloumi, while my husband said his traditional fry up was one of the best he’d ever had. We only ate at the hotel one evening but the food was equally good and it was lovely to have a Welsh cheese board having been offered French cheese for most of our trip around Wales. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. Aberaeron itself wasn’t busy despite it being a bank holiday weekend - although it was a wet Sunday. If noise bothers you I would say the location of the hotel may not be ideal as people understandably congregate on the quay directly outside the hotel. We fell to sleep each night listening to the waves.

Affordable, quality accommodation for that special weekend or get-a-way break•Winter Break 3 nights for 2 from 1st November to 31st March excluding Bank Holidays•Real Comfort in centrally heated accommodation with modern double glazing• A memorable choice of imaginative Welsh Breakfasts that includes Celtic laver bread, smoked fish, traditional home cured bacon and tasty vegetarian dishes •Coastal path outside the front door•Harbour views and sofa comforts•In town but away from the main road. Close to the water's edge, shops and restaurants •Delightful ground floor accommodation with sun lounge and lovely views•Free, well lit overnight parking close by•All rooms en-suite; single, double, triple or small family•100% no smoking policy •Digital TV and free Wi-FI•Our friendly, efficient team hope to see you soon. The bedrooms all have their individual features that you would expect from a house built during the middle of the 19th century. Arosfa retains all its character from that period and is surrounded by similar fine Georgian properties that together make a handsome square with Pwll Cam (the Inner Harbour) at its centre. The fine Georgian house was originally built in the 1850's by a family from nearby Cardigan as a home and probable provisions store. This period was Aberaeron's heyday when a large part of the town was constructed. Arosfa is ideally situated in the town, on the harbour yet still only a short walk to the shops with the convenience of the small free harbour car park close by. There are no hills to worry about and you can take short walks along the quay and seaside promenade or up the riverside footpath which takes you over "Lovers Bridge" and into the park. The surrounding area has an abundance of interesting places to visit within a short drive or bus ride. To name a few there is Devils Bridge, reached by the narrow gauge railway, Roman Gold mines at Pumpsaint, Llanwernog Lead and Silver Mine, Llanerchaeron Mansion, National Botanic Garden of Wales, Aberystwyth Cliff Railway, the ancient Strata Florida Monastery and much more.Since our AA Award we have been continually refining our Welsh Breakfast fayre and there is now more choice than ever and we hope you enjoy it. We think our home cured bacon is something really special and we are always looking for something new to do with laver bread. One very refined elderly welsh lady dared herself to try this most Welsh of Welsh dishes for the first time. She thoroughly enjoyed it and was instantly converted to being a 'Bara Lawr' fan. Chilled Breakfast BarStart with a wonderful selection of fresh fruits, cereals, local cheeses yogurts and our own muesli that is available from the Chilled Breakfast Bar. Then enjoy one of our delicious cooked breakfasts: Grilled Fish, Fresh Filleted Mackerel, Freshly landed in Aberaeron during the season. Gently grilled and served with lemon and scrambled egg. Whole Smoked Kipper, Traditional, natural smoked kipper served on the bone with all the trimmings and scrambled egg. Arosfa Grilled Breakfasts: Our Welsh bacon comes from a local piggery where the pigs are reared outside in a natural way, feeding in fields or woods. We cut the bacon on the premises and serve it with local free range eggs and pork sausages made by our butcher. See if you can taste the difference. Traditional Breakfast: Two Thick Welsh Bacon rashers with pork sausage and fresh egg cooked to your liking. Full Welsh Breakfast: A favorite with many of our guests. Three Thick Welsh Bacon rashers, pork sausage and two gently fried eggs. Local Home Cured Bacon and Egg: This is the bacon that your grandfather would have had for breakfast. Being dry cured over time the old fashioned way it is different in texture and flavour, delicious. Welsh Black Pudding Two Welsh bacon rashers, a fried egg and 4 juicy rings of Pwdin Du. Celtic Laver Bread - 'Bara Lawr ' A delicacy that captures a unique flavour from the sea shore. Harvested edible seaweed that has been enjoyed locally for centuries and is still very popular today. Rolled in oats and lightly pan fried in olive oil;•Served with bacon and fried egg•Penclawdd Cockles and poached egg•Welsh Black Pudding and poached egg•Smoked haddock and poached egg•Or for vegetarians with lemon, mushrooms, tomato and filled with sliced, cooked apple if you wish. Local Cured Ham A lighter breakfast served chilled with melon and toasted home made bread, New Laid Eggs, Free Range eggs from a local farm. Boiled, Poached or Scrambled to your liking with toasted homemade bread. Beverages: There is a choice of various teas; Indian, Chinese, Earl Grey, and Fruit or Herbal. We have freshly brewed cafetiere coffee as well as instant or decaffeinated.

Shocked by rudeness.

After walking round the wind swept harbour we thought it would be nice to call in and have some lunch and a drink. No sooner had we entered than a women came from behind us and snapped at us “you’ve got to sign the book “!which we were going to do. As she headed past she continued “You just can’t walk in you know “. Quick exit Having now looked at other reviews for the Castle, it seems that a bad attitude isn’t unusual, you’d think that in these difficult times businesses would be really welcoming. Not so The Castle.

Feathers Royal Hotel

Feathers Royal Hotel in Aberaeron has a very strong tradition of hospitality built up over many years. It was originally an 18th century coaching inn offering food and shelter to travelers and locals alike. The décor, furniture and fittings of our 13 bedrooms have all been selected to create an atmosphere of period refinement, yet with all mod cons. The bathroom fittings are state-of-the-art, with power showers and complementary toiletries. Breakfast included. Free private parking.

This is certainly NOT a 5-star Hotel fit for VIPs because still some building work is going on and it certainly look worse than a 2-star hotel! When we went to the hotel, it was closed and dark therefore, we look round. We tried to contact Expedia where we book the room in this hotel, but we were not successful contacting them. We noticed there was a text message from the hotel requesting us to let them know the time we are arriving. However, I was driving at the time I received this message therefore, we did not hear the text message. I called this telephone number to find out what was going on... Few minutes later, middle aged man came out from the building saying he’s the owner of this hotel and at that time apart from the two of us only two other builders in the building. This man mentioned to us there’s no coffee shop/café on Monday when we ask for the time they open the restaurant for us to have our dinner! He mentioned they provide finest home made Italian food therefore, we booked the next day (24th May) dinner with them, but it was a total disaster because we were given Lasagne which seems like heated several times before giving it to us because it was very dry and with a burnt top. We ordered Tiramisu for desert and it was again the same. Not good at all because it look and taste like melted watery coffee ice cream with wet sponge! My husband was very upset and walked out of the restaurant and I asked the man who previously mentioned he’s the owner, about the food and he this was how they make their Tiramisu! Anyway, we were given the fist floor room no: 4, overlooking the court yard for our stay during 23-26 May 2022. Rooms to the other side of the court yard had cloths hanged on racks outside in the balcony and not very pleasant site to see. In addition, it was a stuffy small room and in front of Room No: 4, part of the ceiling was not being repaired properly and/or still repairing, room carpets were very old, faded and joints were badly visible. Two windows were also old and difficult to open. No Air Conditioning, very bad ventilation in the room and it’s a certainly a very miserable room and we had a difficult time there rather than a holiday... Expedia and several other room booking systems mentioned Traditional Double Room has a Queen Bed, but it wasn't and we had two Single Beds joint together as a double bed. On 23rd May, we could not open the room door because door lock was stuck. We called the hotel owner’s telephone number several times, but had no response. After several attempts and struggle we managed to get out from the room to go have our dinner. Since then we partly lock the room door and kept the chairs and few other things to make it difficult for someone to open the door while we were in there… When we mentioned this to the breakfast lady, she mentioned normally visitors do not lock the door instead of saying sorry! TV did not work and next day, breakfast lady managed to fix the TV while we were out, but we could view only 1-4 TV channels and without doubt, it wasn’t a TV with digital channels. There was an electric kettle, but NO coffee/tea maker. Only one per day, Café Express Chocolate flavour drinking powder packet for two people was in the room with few tea and coffee packets. A refilled shampoo bottle was in the very small shower room and exactly the same liquid was in the refilled bottle next to the toilet sink to wash the hand, but there’s no soap. NO other toiletries were there apart from toilet roll. Lase curtain was in the toilet window was fixed by two drawing pins! There’s only one hook to hang the bath towels… We were told Restaurants and bar/lounge not open on Mondays but will be open rest of the days however, when we were there, restaurant and the bar were open on only Tuesday night and not any other days! In addition, there was no 24-hour front desk and coffee/tea in a common area. This hotel is not what they advertise and when I mentioned this is not a 5-star hotel, breakfast lady agreed with me…

A fabulous stay with wonderful hosts.

We stayed here for two nights while attending a wedding locally. Everything was fabulous! The location is a convenient 10 minute walk to the town. The premises are beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The gardens were pristine and a lovely place to chill and enjoy the sun. Jonathan and Kerry were wonderful hosts with nothing being too much bother…..Jonathan even provided us with a lift to fetch our cars the morning after the wedding!! The breakfast was great with a wide and variable choice and the rooms were luxurious and very comfortable. Overall a wonderful stay and certainly we will hope to be back again in the near future

Peace and tranquility

Reviewed By rourkesdrifter5

First time staying at Gilfach and there were certainly a lot of positives. Clean, well equipped accommodation, with peace and tranquility by the bucketful . The views of the sea were breathtaking, and we were lucky enough to see some magnificent sunsets during our stay. Signposted access to the coastal path, and though we didn't use the bar facilities I believe they were available with opening hours posted daily on a chalk board. Easy access to New Quay, Aberaeron, and other coastal resorts, and the park itself was maintained to a high standard. If you are looking for a hundred miles an hour type of holiday this won't be for you as basically it's a peaceful idyll by the sea.My only real criticism is I paid for a Gold Chalet to ensure a good sea view in an elevated position with a large decked area, all of which was provided, however the decked area needed a complete refurbishment, as the decking and balustrade had not seen a lick of paint or varnish for years, with 'spongy' boards in places, so looked very shabby as a result and spoilt the whole look of what was otherwise an impressive chalet.I would stay again just for the peace and quiet, and location, but would be more selective in my choice of accommodation, in relation to my outdoor space.

Wonderful stay in Sea Breeze, Ty Gwyn

Reviewed By Tumbletop

We have just spent a short weekend break in Sea Breeze at Ty Gwyn. I’m tempted to write a bad review in order to deter other visitors from considering this great little find, thereby keeping it for ourselves. A fantastic quiet spot, 30 seconds from the beach, beautifully clean and very well equipped. Perfect for a short stay and I’d like to think we would be returning at some point. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Bliss

Reviewed By WrexhamPaul

Last minute booking and managed to get in during school holiday. Turns out we were the only ones there. Even better!! The whole place to ourselves. Relaxing, quiet, back to nature... loved it. No phone signal!! Ha ha, that screwed our teenager and her 'streaks'!! Owner was lovely and helpful. Yurt was great and even my wife who won't do camping with me and the girls enjoyed it. Close enough to aberaeron but tucked away enough too. Showers were hot, communal area had a log burner that we used one night. The area of the hurts has been beautifully landscaped. Right next to the river (did a bit of paddling one day with the kids and built a little dam). The only thing that (as the owner of a baby) would've been 1x 3-pin socket in each yurt. I would've made our lives sterilizing bottles easier! But I appreciate that would mean solar panels for each yurt and that wouldn't have been cheap. Loved it and would recommend it
