Finger Lakes Welcome Center

The Finger Lakes Welcome Center's theme, "Wine and Water," pays tribute to the region's famous vineyards and namesake lakes. The Taste NY Market at the Welcome Center offers hot & cold lunch options of seasonal soups, sandwiches, and a kids menu, all made from fresh ingredients and products grown and produced by local farmers. The Market also offers New York State-made wine, beer, cider, spirits, grab-and-go snacks and gifts. Tourism is at the core of the Welcome Center, with multiple interactive I LOVE NEW YORK kiosks positioned throughout. A playground featuring grape vines for climbing and a model paddle wheel boat will allow the kids to burn off some energy, while adults can relax on a deck overlooking the lake enjoying a craft beverage. Additional amenities include rest rooms, ATM, vending machines, and a community meeting room.

I have had a card for this library when it was on State Street, Cayuga Street, and now Green Street. It is one of the best services that Tompkins County provides for its citizens. Its resources are outstanding; the inter-library loan provides resources from far-flung places. As a teacher, I have taken school field trips to show students what is in their back yard. The Friends of the Library book sale on Esty Street twice a year (May and October) is the best in the country. Its nonprofit day when the sale has ended has provided free books for thousands of readers. What a glorious blessing it is to the community. (But be warned, if you have not used your card in the last two years, you may need a new one. Be sure to bring a bill--like a telephone or electric bill--with you to prove your address.to get your new card.)
