Rastatt Castle (Schloss)

Visited this castle for an evening classical concert and what a treat, both the concert and the tour through some of the rooms.
The pink/orange building was illuminated for the occasion as was the impressive gateway into the massive courtyard.
Built to recreate the grandeur of the Palace of Versailles, the plasterwork, frescoes, furniture, ceilings, chandeliers etc were no less than opulent and gave an insight on how the rich and powerful lived.
There is a lift for those who cannot manage the several flights of stairs and our experienced tour guide was very good.

Visited on May Day immediately after visiting Residenzschloss Rastatt and whilst both were guided tours in German with an English translation sheet this tour was taken out of sequence to the written description which made it difficult to follow. Despite there being no advisory notices we were very curtly told No Photos ! The rooms were poorly illuminated and the much vaunted porcelain collection was not impressive.

St. Alexander Kirche

Arriving in Rastatt to tour the Baroque Residence (aka Castle Rastatt) we wandered the town on a Sunday morning and stumbled into this church. Pretty plain on the outside which did not prepare us for the Baroque opulence within. Just a wonderful little church in a sleepy (it was Sunday morning) Marktplatz in Germany.

Pagodenburg

Reviewed By MadridJosefina - Germany

Bernharduskirche

Reviewed By implodocus - Saone-et-Loire, France
