An old school turned into a museum. Very hands on for children and adults. Informative and friendly volunteers who feel passionately about the museum. You could easily spend a few hours here learning about schooling in yesteryear. Now a grade 11 listed building it's a real asset to Hitchin. There is a cafe and gift shop on site too.

We're a family owned and run farm. During the summer months (check the website for precise dates)we're open to visitors who are able to wander up and down the miles of lavender rows we grow. We also have a small gift shop and offer light refreshments too. Coach groups or large parties are only possible by prior booking. Hope to see you soon!

Great day out, fantastic scenery, postcard pretty. Certainly instagrammable! For only £5 entrance fee, one gets to enjoy the stunning lavender fields, and you can even bring a few sprigs back home. There’s also a gorgeous field of sunflowers. The place opens from late May. I suggest you go visit then or in June. I went end of July and while it’s still very pretty, you can tell that it’s past it’s best season.

The Stotfold watermill is a wonderful learning experience and the volunteers do a great job of enthusiastically explaining the entire process. The mill is perfectly maintained, with pictures, tools, equipment and a miniature working model all aimed at making it an enjoyable visit. And it's free !!
We had tea and cakes in the tea room and bought flour and oats in a small shop inside the mill. Make time for a walk in the nature reserve which has some interesting spots and a wide range of wild plants.
A perfect place for a lazy Sunday afternoon as the mill is open to the public only on Sundays. Check their schedule before you visit.

My husband and myself went to the adult panto “Sinbad the Seaman” on Saturday evening. Booked tickets well in advance online and picked the tickets up before the performance. Had a nice drink in the long bar upstairs before the show, staff are really friendly.
The panto is full of sexual innuendos from the three cast members, the jokes are fabulously cheesy and it’s really funny, lots of participation is required from the audience!
We definitely recommend.
It’s great to support our small local theatre and it runs through until May 2018.

Based in extensive grounds of approximately one acre on Butts Close, Hitchin Swimming Centre offers a wide range of leisure opportunities for all the community. The centre boasts a 50m heated outdoor pool (open from 23rd May to 6th September) with sunbathing Terrace, and 2 indoor pools: a 25 metre deck level 8 lane indoor heated pool, and an indoor toddler pool. The superbly equipped Archers Health & Fitness Club offers an 80-station Technogym equipped fitness suite, steam room, sauna and heated bench complete with exclusive members changing rooms. The latest addition has seen the building of 3 new multi-purpose fitness studios. You can also enjoy a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks at the Splash Café.

This is a stunning pool, 50m with a lane for serious swimmers. Great children's pool and a sand play area (may not be a good thing as there seemed to be quite a lot of sand at the bottom of the main pool) I agree with a previous review about the quality of the cafe. It would be nice if the old building was used as a poolside cafe serving healthier options.

This is a perfect location, close to the town centre, and very convenient for the train station too. The facilities are good, making it perfect for local productions and school events. There is also a car park which is a huge benefit.

Prosecco bar set behind the factory theatre is great, lovely young people serving really nice environment. Not sure if they have disability entrance, but a narrow staircase leads to theatre room. Room tiny, helpful attentive people walk you to your chair as it often involved getting onto and cross the stage.
The production was alright enjoyed seeing youths doing something they are passionate about.
The only big problem I found was how tightly we were packed in. It became very hot, I felt ill, but could not get out without walking across the stage. I tried to get some attention but there was no one.
It appears to be one way in and the same way out. Only one exit sign I could see. With the narrow staircase wondering if in an emergency and building needed to be cleared quickly......
Before I went I was excited to have a new theatre to visitt. But I felt uncomfortable in the environment, and doubt I will return. I wish them every success.

This is an excellent example of the 1730s Forest Style formal garden set in woodlands with a nineteenth-century house.

This is a quite magical and rare formal garden from the early 18th century in which allees defined by clipped beech hedges radiate from the house, often terminating in motifs such as statues and in, in one case, the parish church. It is really wonderful to walk along these seeing how the perspectives change. There are also two beautiful temples (one of them on a lake) in which you can sit and admire the vistas, and paths in the wooded areas through striking plantings of rhododendrons and other shrubs. There are also some secret spaces to happen across, such as a pond and a copse of shrubbery with a stream. This is also a haven for beautifully coloured dragonflies.
Importantly, on the days the parkland is open for charity (usually three Sundays, April, May and June) teas are provided which feature home-made cakes and sandwiches. A fine ending to a remarkable experience. Check the website for other openings. Ample free parking.
