Techniekmuseum Heim

The ground floor of this museum is mostly filled with steam engines, most of which actually run at the press of a button. I've seen such engines in many places, but it is rare to see them running, and usually you cannot operate them yourself. In this museum you can. Especially the huge engine used on a boat is great. There's also some displays about textile machines. On the higher floors there are displays about radar and related technologies, about the use of chlorine, and about sustainable technologies. And much more. I think they could add sections about the most recent technological developments, such as nanotechnology.

This is a very nice daytrip. Almost 4 stars for me. Especially for children in the age 4-12. They really can easily enjoy themselves for 5 hours in this park. Or longer. There are a lot of attractions with no fear factor, for the children that do not like rollercoaster kind of things. One tip, bring your own food. I bought a hot dog for lunch and it was really disgusting. There is not a lot of choice in food anyhow, so make some sandwiches at home to eat there. Entrance is 9,95 euro for everyone, children or adults.

There's some WWII stuff, some other 20th century stuff, some information and paintings about the industrialization, a clock from the old town hall. I'd say it's the minimum you expect in a historic museum.

Bengeltjes Speeldorp

Reviewed By NL_Koen - Oldenzaal, Overijssel, Netherlands

Heard about this place and saw them advertising themselves as the "most fun" and "biggest" indoor playground of The Netherlands, so worth a shot for our 2 year old boy.
It's hard to find this place as it's located in an old factory and the entrance is pretty well hidden with only 1 fairly small sign indicating where the entrance is. It's right accross fromt he Jumbo Supermarket parking lot. Drive between the two bushes and park your car next to the first building you run into. Then walk around the building on the right side and you'll see the door with the Bengeltjes signs.
Can't really explain why, but this place didn't feel too good. The toys are in a fairly decent state, but look a bit old and worn off. Especially comparing this with other indoor Playgrounds in i.e. Enschede and Borne. I was pretty surprised as well that on a Saturday during the day, which should be their top notch day, there were at most only 3 families present with their kids to play. The toys just feel "tired" and "worn out".
My son also didn't like it as much as he does with the other two indoor Playgrounds located in Enschede and Borne. He did like to be the driver in the two cars though.
There's free WiFi of decent quality available throughout the whole venue.
Staff is hidden somewhere in a back room and only comes out if you want to order drinks or food at the bar.
Prices are a bit higher than they are in Enschede and Borne as well.
There is some dirt here and there in the playground. Nothing too bad, but could be better too. Floor boards in the small disco room are loose too. Can imagine kids cutting their bare feet on it. Same with some steel edges on the floors and screws here and there sticking out. Doesn't feel completely safe.
We won't come back here again as we prefer the other indoor Playgrounds.

It is a pity, but when my husband and I found this place whilst wandering around, it was on a Sunday, and the children's animal farm was closed. But we looked at all the animals which were around the edge of it where we could walk, and we also walked to a nice peaceful place nearby where we could sit on a public bench and watch the ducks swimming around. It is a lovely place for children..
