Cycling in the Flemish Ardennes is great, but it will be super hen you climed 'The wall of Geraardsbergen'. Fight yourself up on killing 'kasseien' and expierence what so may experienced before you: it can always be worse...
There is one great benefit: op top of 'de muur' you'll find not only a beautifull chapel with an astonishing view, but also a great restaurant with everything a worn out cyclist needs.

The domain is very nice to stroll around. You can go and take a dive at the indoor tropical swimming pool or in summer time enjoy the "beach" outside around the lake. There is also a possibility for campers and travelers to hire a place to sleep. The food in the restaurant is what you can expect from this kind of restaurant. Prefab stuff.
The nature around the lake is very beautiful also in winter.

According to the story told inside the small visiting center nearby, this is the original statuette, 160 years older than the copy in Brussels. This one can be visited without all the fuss and tourist works around - nice. Inside is also a display of some of the many costumes for the statue along with the story of the Great Wall nearby

Here we are goinmg to visit now after we have seen the statue from “Manneken Pis”, the “City Hall” the “Chapel on the Wall of Geraardsbergen”.
The “Wall of Geraardsbergen” is an incline and street on the “Oudenberg” used in the cycling race “Tour of Flanders” this from 1973 until 2011.
In the year 1940 the “Oudenberg” became a protection as “Landscape”, and in the year 1995 they called the famous incline a “Monument”.
In the middle of the 18th century they get started the building of the Chapel on the “Oudenberg”, which is on this moment also a place of pilgrimage, worth a visit, certainly the inside and also the outside for the fantastic view you have over the region.

Very nice and beautiful inside. Older and more fantastic inside than outside. Very old paintings and details in all corners. Too much to explain in detail. Go and visit.

City Hall.
As told in “visit 1” you have parked your car on the market place where you have the church and the city hall.
The historical “City Hall” on the Marketplace is mainly used for ceremonials and reunions from the city-council who are taking place in the council hall on the first floor.
All the services concerning culture, tourism, inheritance, patrimonial are located in the city hall.

Met een groep "ervaren" escape-game-vrienden gingen we langs in de nieuwe escape room te Geraardsbergen.
De reservering verliep alvast heel vlot en de escape-game zelf is ook gemakkelijk bereikbaar met een ruime (gratis!) parking voor de deur en op wandelafstand van de markt.
Het thema van de kamer is een "reis rond de wereld": in de raadsels en puzzels komt het thema van reizen en aardrijkskunde dus vaak terug. Hierbij zitten veel onverwachte en goed bedachte wendingen, heel leuk voor de groep om achteraf te beseffen hoe de verschillende "verhaal"-lijnen elkaar ontmoeten gedurende het spel.
Samengevat: een heel amusant uur (of iets minder ;-) ) voor onze groep. We hebben onszelf erop betrapt dat we tijdens het avondje uit erna nagenoeg enkel over dit avontuur hebben gebabbeld.
Een aanrader voor elke (vrienden)groep!
Kostprijs voor 5 personen is 100 euro.
Ter info: blijkbaar is men ook aan het werken aan een escape-room voor het jongere publiek (7 tot 12 jarigen), lijkt me leuk en uitdagend initiatief…

Friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere and the children love it!! It's safe for the kids to place and there is a restaurant where you can buy something to drink or eat. Definitely worth it!
